He changed his swing, and is driving a lot more balls than he used to. He'd be a huge upgrade over Moreland.
His hot-streak has past. His power output has not been that great the last 2 months.

Do you think the last two months are what he'd do for the Red Sox? I think he'd be somewhere in the middle.

His April/May output seem to be the outlier in his career.

Him and Smoak from Toronto seem to have had the same career path, except Smoak is still crushing the ball this late in the season.

Same with JBJ. I don't get why those early at bats are held against young players.

But meanwhile you want to sit Benintendi against all lefties, right?

Alonso's hitting in June & July is a definite source of concern. I liked Duda the best--three months with just about a .900 OPS or better. A slower July, but he can get going again. He has been a very streaker hitter in the past and maybe the Red Sox could ride one of his hot streaks. I thought he was worth the risk and asking price.

I guess the Red Sox are going to stick with Moreland.

Nope, like I said for the right deal.. There are a few players I would trade him in a minute for. Just a few.

Well, I also want Morrland benched vs LHPs and Youngcan only platoon with one guy. If we won't DL bogey, then Nunez will allow the 2 platoons.

Mookie is not going anywhere. Lets be real. There is only about 5 guys I'd deal him for and some of those the other team wouldn't do anyway.

Betts better start running out those infield pop outs like the one in the third inning tonight. Infielder drops the ball that would have been an easy double play.. Lack of focus is a concern

saw that too - i agree - lack of something for sure

This team needs a shake up. A reflection of the manager. Too many games they are just not that exciting to watch.

The way I sense things right now, I think perhaps we should make a quick switch to Sellers. Price, Hanley, Holt, Young come to mind.

I know one thing: this is not a World Series team--except by pure accident. So why not "wait till next year" and a clean slate.

Because you already sold your soul to win this season. Price gets you nothing while he's hurt. Hanley is worthless in a trade. Holt and Young are useless too

This is all a reflection of the lack of veteran leadership on this team.

We need a power hitting veteran leader really bad!

Why would anybody want those players mentioned in trades? Only one with even decent value is Price and we'd have to eat a lot of money...

Current projections have Bogaerts at a respectable 3.5 fWAR this year.

I'm not sure where you are getting this from but Baseball Reference currently has Bogaerts with a 1.2 WAR. If we project that out for the rest of the season, maybe he finishes with a 2.0 WAR?

The problem with Bogaerts, and the reason it won't make sense to sign him long term, concerns his defense. This is the second year in a row where he is giving up more runs than saving (defensively). Sure, he may start producing again offensively, but his defense at SS is always going to cut into his overall value as a player. Can you picture what his defense at SS is going to be like at age 30? That is why I wouldn't sign him to a long term extension.

Also, does anyone know why Bogaerts WAR is higher at Fangraphs than Baseball Reference? Does Fangraphs calculate defense into WAR?

They have been nothing more but a bunch of underachievers! They should be much better than their record indicates! Talk about wasting the talents of Chris sale.

Maybe I was thinking more of unloading than trading them.

I think we are something like 3-8 against the Yankees. Doesn't that sum up our season? What a dumpy let down after half the experts had us appearing in the world series. And to think, I kinda believed them.

This group doesn't have a backbone at all. It could be the end for john farrell.

We should be at least 20 games above .500. But we've basically played like a .500 team, which we soon might be.

Too bad Sale is not the leader type (except of himself), maybe he could inspire something.

This team used to be a bad August team, but lately has had some very good August years... Maybe. KEEP HOPE ALIVE, as the former (a million years ago it seems) President used to say.

Real bold housecleaning there. No Fernando Abad?
