And you know this how? It's a deceptive weasel move from a guy who couldn't accept the fact that somebody was truthfully calling his hitting into question. Nothing's changed since 3 years ago. Guy still can't hit.

Yup, nothings changed, he wasn't an an all star, didn't have a 5+ WAR season, wasn't a 3 WAR player last year. You are right, he's a s***** character who should only be a defensive replacement. Great take there, buddy.

I don't know JBJ personally so I can't attest to his character, but I see calling someone out on a message board over his character when they don't know that person is pretty weasely too.

I beg to differ. If it's a public figure and they show themselves to be lacking character, I can make an observation. Like, Bill Cosby. Guy's a prick.

You know who else was an All Star? A 2 time All Star actually, Scott Cooper. He sucked and his career ended before he made it to 30.

...man I like this perspective here .I am one to challenge the Golden boys on this team ..If you're a CF and can only Field what the hell good are you unless of course your JBJ ??? It's a strange place to be in defending that right ! Vaz and Sandy can throw some guys out no call an average game but can't hit worth a crap either ....that's 3 significant players who have no bat most the time ...Benny is held up here like a wunderkin savant ...yet this may be the dumbest in game player we have had in years ...Chris Sale is a notorious fold late pitcher.....Joe Kelly and Barnes are schizophrenic pitchers at best. This team lets a player like Swihart who no one on planet earth knows his potential including himself rot on the bench while 115 ave Sandy and 186 ave Vaz trot out there week after week .I like people who challenge the status quo....To drone on about WAR !BaBIP ...OBP ....either you can put up numbers or you can't ....it's great to be a fantastic Defensive player but your only worth a bench seat if someone can do both .

You are right, Scott Cooper's 1993 season has a lot to do with JBJ allegedly not improving in that three year span, "nothings changed".

JBJ can OPS 750 easily —which is oks for a 8th bat in my book.

Said that his value doesn’t come from his bat but from his glove, arm and running –3 out of 5 ain't bad.

I don’t know you guys but I love JBJ fielding our CF —He covers a lot of ground.

It's not the actual comment, it's the whole ruse to get a picture with Eck and make it seem like a friendly photo op and then post it onto social media with a snide comment about eck. Just a weasel move. I guess you'd be ok with somebody doing that to you.

It's no wonder some players stay away from the Boston "fan" base.

One bad game or two and our player sucks.

Not just on the field, either. Go after the kids core self.

This site is bringning me down during a season that looks to be something really special.

A tough night at the plate, but don't lose sight of the fact that he made two outstanding catches in CF that kept the game as close as it was.

Agreed.

JBJ was not the reason we lost. Not even close.

When I saw this thread moved to the top, itmade me shake my head before even opening the thread.

I just don't see the rational for trading JBJ especially from fans.

He is one of the most enigmatic players on this team, a wonder in the field that goes through hot streaks that are crazy hot and cold streaks that are crazy cold at the plate. But we have already suffered through the worst we are ever going to see from JBJ at the plate, back in 2014 and we kept him. So what are we talkin' about. I don't know why we are not just enjoying the guy especially playing on a team that has gotten off to such a good start.

Least we forget, they are all struggling a bit at the plate since the Manaea game. They are not as good as they were before that game and they are not as bad as they have sometimes looked since. The league adjusted. The team has to adjust to the league adjusting and it will go on like that for another 140 games or so.

Beni doesn't make two plays JBJ made tonight.

If that's worth 2 hits on offense, then JBJ had a good game.

Tough last AB.

At least have the decency to confine this kind of diarrhetic outburst to the game threads.

It's easy to see who values defense here and who doesn't. :-(

That whole ******** with Dennis Eckersley. JBJ is a f'king weasel.

It's amazing that if any Sox player doesn't genuflect in front of Eckersley, someone who likely doesn't know the whole story has to leap into calling this out as a massive team-killing character flaw. Was Eck really that loved?

(Hint: No. If JBJ was putting up an OPS over 1.000, this guy would let Bradley stick pins in little Dennis Eckersley dolls just to have fun watching Eck writhe in pain.)

I like Eckersley but some of this stuff comes with the territory when you enter the arena of being a commentator.

If it was Shaughnessy no one would mind. In fact they'd laugh their asses off if a player did something like call him Curly Haired Boyfriend.

Eck is irrelevant here. It's just more potential ammunition for dumping a player solely for offensive reasons. The fact that Bradley apologized and he and Eck made up was omitted from the attack on Bradley's character. Why? Well it counters it by showing good character traits and it did nothing for his batting average.

Why people are so afraid to say "I don't like players who don't hit well" is beyond me...

Terrible example that comes closer to disproving your point.

Bill Cosby was doing his heinous acts for decades and we all knew nothing about it and plenty of people loved him, including me and very likely you (assuming you're old enough). It wasn't until YEARS LATER when the lawsuits started pulling up we realized who we were revering. ..

So JBJ's character should be solely judged by this one act with Eck?

Ever heard of glass houses?

I admit, I know very little about JBJ's and other Sox players' characters, but I've seen nothing to bring out such intense hatred and spite, This kind of stuff is what gives Sox fans a bad name.

I hate it when JBJ strikes out with the tying run on base late in a game, too, but come on!

Eck may come off as too blunt and critical to the players . Especially when compared to O'Brien , who is the ultimate ass kisser.

Ecks the color commentator. O’Brien is the Play by Play. Two different jobs in the same booth. On purpose. It’s typical tradition. Since the beginning of time.

It doesn't necessarily work that way in actual practice though. On the occasions I have suffered through a YES broadcast I have found Michael Kay to be more critical of poor play than his color guys.

Yeah, well, Kays a f***head. Keyword: suffered lol

Fair point. But I think the argument about specific roles might still be applicable to Eckersley and O'Brien. ..

Have you noticed JMart wandering aimlessly out there, yet?

Uhhh.. yes. We dodged a bullet today no thanks to JDM in the OF.

As some of us have been saying, he's been making the plays but he looks lost out there. If he's insisted that he get time in the OF to prove he can play there it's backfiring on him.

And yes, I know with Mookie out we're short on options but that still doesn't justify having JMart out there. I say give Swihart a chance and let JDM DH.

I'm not so sure he's forcing time in the OF, "to prove he can play there," near as much as he just likes playing the OF.

Anyway, I was pretty sure they promised him playing time to get the deal done, and truthfully, I'm happy to give it to him to keep him happy, and guys fresh. I think it pays dividends over the long long season.

It will be cringe-worthy sometimes, but all in all, the guy is worth it.
