That's what I suggested and that is what I believe.

Still, it is predictable that the press at the very least will s*** all over Farrell.

It's a mad scramble to find and to keep a media job in this market. Those f***s will t-bone anyone to score points. Especially someone who is not in a position to defend themselves.

I almost never listen to WEEI except for game broadcasts, but yesterday i was listening on the way home and they were s***ing hard on Farrell, especially Merloni. Until then, I really didn't think Farrell was going to get fired, but they went after him hard. After listening, I thought that they would not have gone after him that hard if they didn't have some inside information. Maybe they are always like that. As I said, i never really listen to WEEI.

I'm never happy about anyone losing their job, but JF did nothing, except handle the pitching staff well, to deserve a return.

Who is out there?

Not Ausmus, please.

Were they too chicken to call out JF during the season?

IDK, as I said, I don't listen to them, but yesterday was brutal. They mocked his terminology interminably. They said that the players hated him and that he let Price ruin the clubhouse and on and on.

Hmm. Never knew he was from Manfield. You must be beaming with pride.

Anyway, did you read his piece? Again, I never heard a f***ing peep about this clubhouse discord led by Price and the Gimp.

If any of this is true than Price is a major douche bag and Pedroia is no better.

And with this cast of miscreants, how will a new manager change the outcome next year?

What a bunch of f***ing pussies.

If there was some there there, one of the beat writers would have said something. Tomase, like Shaughnessy and Buckley from the Herald, probably hasn't set foot in the clubhouse in years. He has no clue what's going on in there. Buckley can't write a column without bringing up the Price-Eck incident in some manner.

I said it shortly after it happened, Price is a dead man in Boston in the eyes of the press. Wrong as it was to do so, he attacked one of their own, and they will never forgive him for it. The media in general loves to apply rules to others that they never apply to themselves.

Merloni calls everyone out. He has been on Farrell for quite a while.

And fundamentals don't matter.

According to the arguments of the statheads, it doesn't matter whether our hitters come to home plate to hit in no in random order (only outmoded traditionalist thought demands a set lineup) and they can wear blindfolds like they are swinging at pinatas.

Some of this s*** is really annoying and doesn't lend itself to a useful baseball discussion. As I have said before, we should have vetted these BDC people when they came over en masse. TS long timers have been generally overly indulgent and tolerant of the new members, but we know that this place is a lot less fun since the influx. They have been here for a while. We know which ones are good and which ones make the place worse. Most have made the cut and add to the baseball discussion, and some are outstanding, but frankly some of them need to get cut. It really is time to bite the bullet. We are very tolerant with new and existing members, but this place has become less fun and we know why.

I'm so naive - i got no idea what the f*** is going on.

I don't trust Tomase for anything. Price can make amends next year by pitching well.

That's why they are all pissed at DD for not throwing Farrell under the bus today.

Oh yes. "Save baseball in Pawtucket".

That disingenuous piece of dog s*** threatens to move the team to Worceter and then when that bluff does not work he poses as the savior of Pawtucket baseball all the while demanding that a bankrupt city and the state fund or subsidize his business.

Not surprised since I have always seen him as a s*** stain.

Considering all the s*** going on in RI right now, it's not the time for LL to try to be making a power play.

John Farrell strikes me as a good loyal man. I feel badly for him but he had to see this coming. Another poster said it earlier and I agree that he was not DD's man to begin with. IMO, he had a couple of occasions where he just might have stood his ground just a little better and if there was a clubhouse issue, I'm looking right at PP - Price and Pedroia. Good luck to them - and good luck to whoever comes after Farrell. Personally I don't think Farrell was nor do I think that he wanted to be tough enough with these two as well as others.

Got to say though that it really did look as though the time had come! There is a hell of a lot more to this than knowing how to get along with younger players. The manager is the leader - he needs to lead and that means you got to have some space between you and the worker bees. You aren't one of the boys. When they act like children sometimes you just have to treat them that way.

It's hard to fireanyone after winning two division titles but this ain't Miami or Atlanta. I think farrell would be here had this team made the ALCS.

i dont disagree. but when you have a roster with a bunch of kids you need a manager that has high impact. i think that is a very good reason to fire farrell.

The kids played well largely ... and Farrell had strengths. He managed the pitching staff well and largely was okay tactically (very good in Game 3 for instance - less good other times)

I would not be disappointed if John Farrell has the post-Red Sox success that Terry Francona has enjoyed.

He might end up back (with another team) as a pitching coach. He's great at that job!

Their talking up Gardenhire as a possible replacement. Whoever comes in needs to look carefully at coaching staff changes as well. Best to get the new guy on board quickly so that he can be a part of the decision making going forward for next season.

From Abraham.

Statement released by John Farrell just now:

Despite an end to this season that we all wanted to be different, I am proud of this ball club and the resiliency shown. I have enjoyed every moment of this job - its peaks and its valleys. There are few, if any, positions in life that create so much passion on a daily basis.

I am grateful to an ownership group that gave me such a unique opportunity, and one that shared my desire to bring World Series championships to this great city. They supported me through a challenging and scary period in my own life, and I remain forever indebted.

I am grateful to two front office groups that worked tirelessly to provide me with the players that could consistently match up with the very best in the game. Their time and resources made my job so much easier and fulfilling.

I am thankful for fellow coaches who are far more than that - they are close friends. They have provided the necessary direction, guidance, and humor that have made the daily activities of a long season all that much more enjoyable.

I am especially grateful for five years of great players - and people. This game has always been built around and for the players, and I have tried to respect that for five years in Boston. I have witnessed Hall of Famers, memorable Fenway wins, and countless private moments that will always be with me. Those relationships will remain cherished for years.

The legions of fans who support this franchise keep their manager on his toes day in and day out. There are no days off when managing this proud franchise. I would not have wanted it any other way.

Again, I thank John Henry, Tom Werner, Michael Gordon, and the ownership team for their faith in me and wish them nothing but the best moving forward.

Lol. Notice he did not thank Dombrowski for anything.
