I don't get it... is it not allowed or something? This is my second time posting, but I've been prowling this page for months, and it seems like there's a new thread every few weeks at best.

Is there a better Sox message board somewhere?

Posted

Actually... IMO this forum covers most topics fairly well. You just have to understand that there's a certain paranoia about having "too many threads" so a variety of things get posted in a single thread. For example, anything about Benintendi gets covered in the Benintendi thread rather than multiple threads about his hitting, his defense, his attitude, his upbringing, or the length of his hair.

What topics would you like to see that aren't covered here?

I would think after the B's and C's finish embarrassing themselves, and after the NFL draft, interest will pick up.

The number of new threads started is not really a good indicator of forum health...I'd rather have a few active threads with many pages of good discussion than a new thread for every stray thought that enters someone's brain. If you have a topic to discuss that doesn't fit in one of the existing threads, by all means, start one.

Pretty much.

The anal retentive monkeys who police this site are a joke - talk about control freaks....Who uses any kind of social media this way? Yes, let me comment on a new development by finding a related article from a year ago....get your s*** together Talk Sox and let people post their thoughts and leave it be. It's called freedom of speech, press, and expression.

You have no idea what freedom of speech is then.

The BDC site was a mess. This one is much better. And as you've obviously noticed, you can use bad language here. :-)

There can be a happy medium I believe...as far as MVP goes about not knowing freedom of expression, I bet I could teach him a thing or two about the topic but why waste the time explaining basic concepts of American values to that guy?

Freedom of expression has no meaning here as this is a private forum and you can be kicked out for any number of reasons and have no legal recourse. If you want to use your freedom of expression, might as well just open your mom's window and yell obscenities to the world outside. You'll probably get the reaction your looking for there.

You can say that again.

Basic concepts of American values. Oh boy....Did Starbucks come out with an "controversal" Easter to-go cup and I've somehow missed it?

Prowls the board for "months." Only posts 2 times in over the course of a week. Decides he needs to make a new post to complain because there aren't enough "new posts."

If you don't like how things are going: PARTICIPATE!

With the attendent issue that some people when they say "fit" mean "fit" and other people when they say "fit" mean "can be shoehorned."

Agree 100%. I hated all the new threads started at BDC.

I like this place much better than BDC. :)

This forum sucks, sucks out loud and it's as boring as all get out. BDC was 1000% better. More entertaining, more traffic, more interesting, just better. I'm rarely even in here because about every time I come I see another boring stat cast type thread arguing sabermetrics or what the Sox fifth round pick should be. It's late April and I'm still on the Pats forum more than in here. There are threads on the FRONT PAGE in here that were posted last July. Enough said. Edited by Examiner

Can't please everybody, that's for sure. What some people who just pop in here don't realize is that we have beaten to death just about every possible Red Sox topic there is here, it's just that it's done in a handful of threads.

How's 'bout we use this thread for thread topic ideas and if there are any good ones then the Mods can curate them when applicable?

If someone doe not like the discussion of TS then they can take a hike.

One again, what good is an interactive sports forum if it limits inquiry and discussion? How is this better than BDC? There was a great article about Aaron Hernandez/Gino Auriemma after the suicide. However based on the rigid rules here you would have to add it to a general category where it could not be easily found by most people on this board (Forum: Other Sports) Non-Baseball discussion. This should have been front and center this week and not the Buchholz nonsense from six months ago. Spudboy, sorry you don't need a safe space for Red Sox discussions. Your world won't wither if there are a dozen threads a day that relate to what people really want to share thoughts about. Examiner is 100% correct about how stale these threads are. Moon was the guy on BDC who started the most threads and despite his sabermetric ways, they were usually pretty good and fueled other discussions. Trolls will always come and go in chat rooms but to be so guarded against them just stifles meaningful exchanges imo. BTW here is the article if you haven't read it

A forum is as good as the people who post in it. We have plenty of good posters here, including Moon and some other stalwarts from BDC.
