We always seem to get up for Baltimore no matter how good they are..... And then fall on our faces against Tampa lol

Great, great start by Pomeranz. I had this game as a throwaway and could not be happier to be wrong. Special delight in the 2 Orioles errors. After that double, the bull pen has also looked sharp. 3 runs and 3 Ks vs. Bundy.

Fried , baked , or grilled.

Is it the end of the season already?

Pom did well and I was surprised that he went past 5.

The O's are playing ugly tonight. Good.

If he stays healthy you will see a lot of games like this, has very good stuff. Just dominated a righty dominant lineup that puts up a lot of runs.

Leon and Vazquez might turn out to be a pretty nice tandem this year.

But WHO WILL BE OUR CATCHER IN 2022?!?!?

The Orioles announcers nonstop keep bitching about "the faster infield" being an unfair advantage. Shut the f*** up

Gary Thorne is the worst.

How ironic.

When Earl Weaver first took over the Orioles in the late 60s/early 70s, he had Brooks Robinson and Mark Belanger on the left side. At first, he had the infield grass cut high, reasoning his guys would make more plays. But he soon noticed that opposing teams fielders were making great plays, robbing O's hitters of base hits while his gold glovers were making those same balls look easy. So Weaver then had the groundcrew mow the infield at Memorial Stadium to a nub. Now, his guys were making great plays while the balls his guys were hitting got through for base hits.

They really ought to read some history.

How do you lose 8-1 and blame it on the infield being fast? That's a joke.

And now Showalter is blaming it on the flu and making some backhanded half-assed comment about HIS team not broadcasting their flu issues to the world. *******.

Showalter and Thorne are the biggest douches in the league. They complain about all kinds of absurd ******** and make excuses for everything. I hate the Orioles more than any team in the league, Yankees included.

Showalter always acts like a whiny, jealous POS when it comes to the Red Sox, for some reason. Hope we kick his team's ass every time we play them.

Way back on page 1 or so I wrote we didn't have much chance last night and based it on my assumption that Pomeranz is a putz and the Orioles starter has good stuff. A throwaway game, I said.

I also told my boss the same thing. We both live in N.Virginia and both get the Orioles games on a local channel. So he watched and then confronted me this morning for not knowing much about the Sox. Serves me right.

Reading Pomeranz's postgame comments, I gather he was almost as surprised as I was.

Betts is struggling (for now) w/o having Ortiz behind him. His BB% is 23.1%. He's getting nothing to hit.

Now that clutch/non-clutch is exhausted, I think it's time to renew discussion of this myth. I don't have the reference, but a couple of years ago I did read a statistical analysis of "protection" and it completely debunked this notion, showing that a hitter's performance had no relation to the quality of the hitter behind him. (Next up: the bunt, advancing the runner, the pernicious influence of the "save" and the way Fenway Park is bad for left-handed hitters).

It's not a myth. I've seen enough games to know when a guys is being pitched around and when he's not. Not every hitter is being pitched around. It only happens in some circumstances. Just because their conclusion was that it doesn't exist, doesn't mean the methodology used was correct.

Does anyone else want to say they want Clay Buchholz on this team? Pomerantz had a spectacular night and Clay Buckholtz s*** the bed by giving up 5 runs in 3 innings and left the game with a forearm strain. Believe it or not, Dave Dabrowski knows what he is doing.

I too believe it's not a myth at all. But in Betts' case, I really think it boils down to coming back from the flu and time missed. He's had some bad ABs and some bad luck. IMHO, He's one of the few batters in the league that w/ protection or no protection he'll have good ABs if he's on his game and fully healthy. Of course, you're right, constantly being pitch around would hurt anyone's game.
