That's the first time I've seen the words Price, effective and playoffs in the same sentence.

I think this is the first time without the word "not" in the sentence somewhere.

If he needs it, go ahead and get it over with quickly and jump the return date up.

Price said something about a tear in his elbow. He continues to have stiffness in the elbow after throwing. He has been a shell of himself save a 7 game stretch prior to his recent return to the DL. He needs to have it looked at surgically.

Price has a ton of innings on that arm.

the gamble is that price could return for the playoffs with some rest vs. getting the surgery now and missing the rest of this year and next year.

Clearly price wants to contribute, but will the elbow let him?

It was great to see David Price out on the field leading the celebrations of last night's win. It tells me he is highly motivated in terms of the team, and is very much a part of the team.
Meh. Hows his pitching? Other than that....shut the F up.

This also has to do with what he said to Eckersley, sticking up for....someone else mind you. Making the most money makes him responsible for his fkng job not sticking up for other people, LOL.

Sale getting lit up like a pinball machine by the Yankees.

I think what irks me more than Sale not being his typical self is that our offense was shut down by CC. That just cannot happen.

It is enigmatic how he's been owning us lately.

LOL

All is forgiven and forgotten today with a series win.

What's odd is I (and probably most people) figured we would win Sale's start and would likely be beat by Gray.

Cc is not throwing great stuff, but he knows how to throw down and away which kills our zombies.

Yup.

His knees are junk and he is in considerable discomfort on the mound.

I respect what he is doing.

Sabathia is better than Porcello this year. It's not terribly surprising that he can have some pretty good games.

CC has gone 20 innings against the Sox and has only given up 2 runs.

We'll probably face CC one more time this year. A game where I hope he comes out wishing we'd have bunted more.

He has been good this year against us. I'm just saying that that can't happen!

Good news everyone!

@ScottLauber

Back fine and having apparently avoided looking directly at sun, Pomeranz ready for Wednesday.

Did fister and sale secretly change jersey's tonight?

This is a guy who throws around 85 mph. He befuddled a good hitting club tonight. Good for him and good for us. The BP had a much needed night off.

One of those very rare Sox complete game outings (not by Chris Sale) and against one of the best lineups in the the AL.

It's funny how we penciled in a win last night and lost, and a loss tonight, and won handily with a one-hitter by Doug Fister. He allows a leadoff homer and perhaps all of us said "Here we go again" but never allowed another hit through nine innings. Surprise! Surprise!

They told Sale you are owning everyone too easily, so you have have to throw right handed now.

Actually, I'm seeing positive signs in all five starters. Sale is Sale. Pomeranz is a miracle. Porcello is much better since the all-star break. E-Rod has twice started badly--especially the 2d inning--and then settled down. When he is pitching the way he is capable of, he can be tough. Fister is almost as big a surprise as Pomeranz. He doesn't have great stuff, but is effective when he commands his pitches and keeps the ball low (not all the time of course).

It's also interesting that 3 and sometimes 4 of our starters are lefties in a righty-hitter universe.

I say Fister starts the second game of any playoff series vs the Guardians.

Sale has sucked against the Guardians in his career. Fister should start the first game.

Pomeranz play to date Max is not a big a surprise to me. I think that he has the potential to be better. That being said, I hope he keeps it going tonight.

Notable: Doug Fister is 6-2 with 2.60 ERA in nine playoff games, eight of them starts. … 3.18 ERA in 19 regular seasons starts vs Guardians.

David Price tells @Ken_Rosenthal of his injury “It’s kind of the lower triceps.” He felt it throwing breaking balls/changeups, not fastballs

It heals itself,” Price said of his elbow. “It lays down bone on my ligament. It calcifies and turns into bone.”

Price is missing all the fun. Having another lefty power pitcher would be great in September. Will it happen?
