The longer that EE remains unsigned the greater I think are the chances of DD signing him, and that would be fantastic.

That would be sweet.

But then we would have to hear continual griping about being over the cap and how it will hinder this team going forward.

I can deal with that!

Not sure why you can't just make a post without taking a shot at people who disagree with you all the time.

I guess the shoe must fit if you needed to respond to one light hearted jab.

Oh well.

It was also a season where he was so bad that he was relegated to the bull pen.

Remember, harmony (an ironic name if there ever was one!) only comes to this board to stir the pot. Since the 7th pitcher in our rotation is the weakest spot on the team - a great spot to be in, BTW, that's where he's directing his comments. Take it all with a grain of salt. ;)

So who was "stirring the pot" in this exchange?:)

Of course if the Sox are one of those teams hit by injury , then Clay goes nowhere...

I'd say our 8th rotation slot is much weaker than our 7th slot when compared league wide.

I's also put 3B and maybe 1B/DH (where ever HanRam is not playing) is weaker than our 7th starter- league comparative wise.

The question remains, with 30 teams in MLB why would a Seattle fan come to (I hesitate to use the word "troll") a Red Sox forum on a daily basis if not to 'stir the pot'?

Ya.. I was comparing positions within the team.

I actually enjoy him coming here. He offers a somewhat unbiased opinion that is heavily and consistently tied to WAR and projected WAR.

I don't think he's a troll, and he often shoots down my suggestions- always for being too light on my return packages, while Sox fans often say I'm too heavy- so that's where I see him as a balancing influence to the board.

I figured you were, and his injury and inconsistency issues do make him a "weak link" in our 25 man roster for those purposes, but his upside is a proven thing, and he's not far removed from his last hot stretch.

Why does anyone study a second language?

I visit many baseball message boards to learn more about the game I love.

Man! With 30 teams in MLB you must have some time on your hands!! :D

I just don't see DUMBrowski making another bigly move unless he can grab a guy to play 3b. He seems willing to go into the season with Pablo in the lineup.

I think if there's any need to address 3B we'll see it dealt with at the deadline.

Agreed, and it's not like it should be really hard to find a decent 3Bman on a losing team.

If the Sox are winning they may forego a third baseman at the deadline even if Sandoval is below average. You don't need a top 5 player at every position to win, and pitching depth is usually far more important...

Agrred, but there's a significant chance he could get hurt or be so subpar at bat and/or on defense that an acquisition is essential.

i'd rather keep clay and pom then spend a dime on EE.

Even dumping their total salaries would only add about $18.2M to our spending allowance, if we want to stay under the limit.

I wouldn't do it.

If somehow we could trade Buch for a prospect. sign EE to 1-2 years and still reset the tax for next year's much better FA class, then I might say yes, but EE's contract is going to be for 4-5 years, so I'd probably still say no.

I regret to report that an apparent administrator labeled me a troll at the Red Sox website Over the Monster.:(

In a September 4 game thread, a poster had made fun of the last-place Athletics celebrating after a walk-off win against the Red Sox. "Lol celebration last place must be so good," the poster wrote:

http://www.overthemonster.com/2016/9/4/12794362/game-136-red-sox-vs-athletics#comments

I responded that the A's celebration was reminiscent of a celebration of a last-place team a year ago and provided a link to a video of a walk-off celebration by the 2015 Red Sox. In a post soon thereafter I wrote that "Last place teams need a reason to celebrate" and provided second link to a video of the 2015 Red Sox celebrating another walk-off win.

My posts elicited this response from Over the Monster:

You have been issued a warning by Over the Monster.

Trolling us on how we were a last-place team for the past few years is beneath you. Cut it out.

In order to continue participating on Over the Monster you must acknowledge your warning by pressing the OK button below.

At that point I decided that Over the Monster and I were not a good match. Over the Monster posts are often filled with profanity but void of substance. I like to think that my posts are quite the opposite. I have not acknowledged the warning and will not post there. Over the Monster is a great site for a poster who wants to swear profusely.

I visit many baseball message boards, but excluding Mariner forums I spend more time on Red Sox boards than on all other forums combined. I have concentrated on the Red Sox just as a person studying a second language does not necessarily study all languages.

I first came to a Red Sox forum in January 2006 when the Sox were rumored to be interested in Seattle outfielder Jeremy Reed as a replacement for the departed Johnny Damon. I wanted to compare how Red Sox fans and Mariners fans valued Reed ... and of course the valuations were much different. Through the process I gained a better idea of Reed's value.

I know my ideas will be subjected to scrutiny when I post on a public forum. I am grateful to the many Red Sox fans who through the years have challenged my contributions in a civil manner ... and even those who have been less than civil. The discussions have made me more knowledgeable about the game I love.

Peace be with everyone this holiday season.

Interesting history.

I'm thankful you are here, and I enjoyed your time on the BDC as well.

What don't you like about EE? He's not Ortiz, but he does have some consistently excellent numbers.

He's going to be significantly beyond prime when his contract expires.

He's going to cost money and possibly restrict future signings and/or extensions.

He's going to cost a draft pick at a point where we may need every pick we can get.

I'd love to get EE, Justin Turner and Jansen, but we are not the Dodgers East. If Henry wanted us to be, we could, but he doesn't, so we won't.
