And no position player comes off in 2018

We're really locked up solid and long.

HanRam does have a vesting option after 2018 based on 1050 PAs from 2017 & 2018 combined and passing a physical.

You are correct.....I'm going to assume he remains healthy and relevant for Sox next two years.

My guess is that Beltran "plan A." I think he makes the most sense as well.

DD was quoted as saying he would be reluctant to offer EE a 5 year contract, which is what he seems to want.

EE may be posturing for the best 4 year deal he can get by asking for 5.

If we were to sign these three guys to what MLBTR projects, we'd just be a little over the luxury tax:

$17M x 3 Hill

$14M x 1 Beltran

$8M x 2 Ziegler

I think we still might have to trade for another RP'er, but I'd be happy with these three.

Even a 4 year deal is too long for Edwin. Beltran makes more and more sense every time I think about it.

Morales on a short term deal would make sense too.

I've never thought EE was a good idea due to the years and blockage of our prospects as soon as 2018.

Agreed.

I think you and I feel the same way about those long term contracts in general.

Napoli inexplicably didn't get a QO after a 34-homer season. Wouldn't be my Plan A, but you could do a lot worse as Plan C or D.

I guess, if we lose out on plan A & B, he might be an option, but I think he stays with CLE.

So, maybe the CWS are going to go into sell mode. This from MLBTR:

What does seem clear is that the White Sox will not continue to pursue shorter-term, expensive veterans to build around their core. “We have taken the approach for a number of years that we were focused on a short-term success,” Hahn said, specifying that the team was no longer interested in continuing that course because it “realize a better position for the long-term is a more prudent path.”

Hahn didn’t prime fans for a massive rebuilding effort, though. He suggested that the club still has hopes of winning next year, but that the offseason “targets will have a little bit longer fits in nature.” But there does still appear to be a real possibility of some deals involving the team’s veterans. Hahn explained:

“Should we go to the position of selling off assets, looking toward a more long-term future, the market will dictate how deep of a cut that is. That would also be based on the return for some of our players. The market plays a huge role. … The other part is how your players are valued by the industry. We would not be just trading a younger piece for a younger piece. We would want to diversify the use of players, depending on the depth and strength of the roster. You may look at five or six spots to improve on.”

My take from what is coming out of White Sox land - yes you might be able to pry our young pitchers away from but it is going to cost you a great deal!!! The players we gave up collectively to get Kimbrel and Pomeranz were chump change in comparison to what it will take to drag young pitching away from the white Sox.

If we do business with them then we get to discuss for real whether or not we have sacrificed our future to add on pitcher to our roster.

Agreed. I'm not for massive unbalanced trades, but when an ace is involved, I have to stop and consider it.

I know Guerra has lost value, but I wonder if a JBJ, Margot, Espinoza & Allen trade would get us Sale or Quintana, or would JBJ, Devers, Owens and Espi get the job done? (Then, sign Beltran & Hill)

soxprospects.com has this projected for our AAA infield next year:

C: Swihart

1B: Travis

2B: Hernandez

3B: Moncada

SS: Dubon

They have Devers and Kopech starting off in AA.

In my world - which I understand is a little unbalanced - I would have wanted one more very near potential starter in addition to a JBJ. Maybe even an E-Rod. It might cost a JBJ plus Swihart plus an E-Rod or Moncada. They might even ask for more. A cost that gets pretty high but of course you still have to listen.

I'm afraid the asking price will be way too high. I'm willing to overpay for greatness at the TOR, but there's a limit.

I would not give JBJ, ERod & Swihart, but I might give that for Quintana and Robertson, or maybe just JBJ, Pom & Swi for Sale.

We all know this of course but it is worth saying that we need several plans to fill a hole due to the competitive nature of the league. We may well be in competition with the Yankees and perhaps several other teams for his services. Good to have a plan B and a plan C to avoid over committing for the value gotten in return. Beltran is my Plan A though.

My guess is the bidding will be less on Beltran than the longer term guys, so I think he should be our plan A and plan B- after we secure a RP'er or two, that is.

I'd kinda like to get Hernandez some reps at 3B, but Moncada needs all the time he can get there.

MLBTR...

The Red Sox are showing “strong” interest in Holland, tweets WEEI’s Rob Bradford, who adds that the right-hander will take about six weeks off following his showcase before he resumes his offseason throwing program.

The Sox will show strong interest in numerous directions such as Joey Bats, Beltran and EE. They have to do that with pitchers as well. They need to have numerous opportunities at each position, from which they will pick one or maybe two in the case of pitchers. DD can't signal too strong an interest in any candidate at this point without causing the price in $ and or picks to go up. He knows what he is doing in that regard.

Possibly - franchise might prefer to put Moncada in instead of Devers

I don't think I'd give JBJ, Moncada and Espi for Sale.

Well Espinoza is somewhere else, so there's that

Moncada would be tough to lose - especially given the giant bonus ... but with his 40% AFL strikeout register, there are fair questions as to whether he actually is the best 3B option in the org on a longer term.

Umm, I know. This goes back several posts about "what ifs"...
