My major point to you guys was whether you thought you could have gotten something more for Espinoza

Right this second? Not without adding other pieces. Also, it depends on what you think "more" means. Is Rich Hill "more?"

As part of a package maybe, but who's available? The Braves keep saying they aren't trading Teheran and it sounds like the Sox had some concerns with him. Gray, maybe, but it would've likely cost more and there's no guarantee he'll be moved, either.

The Braves wanted Moncada/Benintendi AND Espinoza in the deal for Teheran. No thank you...

The question is what is the chance he'll become Pedro. If it's 50%, you keep Espinoza. If it's less than 25%, you probably move him without worrying.

There isn't an 18 year old in history that, at 18, has even a 25% chance to be Pedro.

I've followed baseball since 1994.....go crawl back under your hole sox fans are talking.

Was your team not a dynasty when they developed and kept all those players???? yes they traded and signed FA's to fill the gaps over the years but it was AFTER they already had developed and kept that core of guys.

What does that have to do with your previous statement that I as a Yankee fan have zero concept of building a farm system and having guys come up and contribute??!!

Please point out exactly what was trolling?

Literally, 99% of your posts since you've showed up have been to troll Red Sox fans. All you have to do is look at your post history. When you spend more time trolling with dumb posts, no one will ever take you seriously enough to have a real conversation.

Pomeranz is an all-star and has #1 pitcher territory stats in terms of opposing batting average, era, and whip.

Currently: 2.47 era, .184 ba, 1.06 whip

http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/31010/drew-pomeranz

What more do you want?

If Pomeranz can maintain his level, that is way higher than mid-rotation starter ability.

I'm sad to see Espinoza go. But this is the right move for the Red Sox to contend THIS season.

Pomeranz will also be under control for an additional 2 seasons after this one, so it's not just a rental. He will help this team compete into the future as well.

Espinoza was my #1 untouchable, even above Moncada. I would rather of thrown Moncada+ in with Espinoza and got a true TOTRS than trade one of them for a mid rotation starter.

a TOTR starter with zero question marks. someone that has actually pitched 200 innings in a season in their career. that's who i want for my #14 in all of baseball prospect.

as for All Star. as stated on other pages of this thread. Brock Holt is an All Star. would you trade the #14 prospect in all of baseball for him?

You wouldn't be able to do a 1 for 1 deal like that. A TOTR guy like that would have cost Espinoza and Moncada and something else.

A 200 IP, #1 or #2 starter package begins with Espinoza. What you are asking for is the rarest of commodities. Especially with multiple years of control.

What is it with you writing the exact same post I'm writing two seconds before I post it?

What you seem not to understand is it would cost multiple untouchables, including Espinosa. To get the kind of you you're describing, with "no question marks," you'd have to gut a farm system. There's a reason that that kind of guy almost never changes hands.

I'm fine with Pomeranz. Perhaps my perspective is skewed by not knowing that much about Espinosa beyond that he's a highly regarded A baller and with the fact that Pomeranz is quite frankly better than the SP's I was looking at.

From fangraphs:

That doesn’t mean that he’s just trading away his best players willy-nilly. He didn’t trade Josh Beckett or Adrian Gonzalez or A.J. Burnett. He didn’t ship off Miguel Cabrera or Rondell White or Larry Walker. He didn’t deal Marquis Grissom or Derrek Lee or Justin Verlander. But most of the top prospects he has traded away didn’t live up to their billing.

If Pomeranz continues to be a stud, I will have no complaints about this deal going forward. I'll just content myself with thinking that the Red Sox must believe he is the real deal, and possibly were not as sold on Espinoza as we might have thought. Having gone through all the stages of grief since last night, I think I am pretty okay with this.

I would like an explanation regarding how this qualifies as a "panic move".

In the sense that we could and should have added another quality pitcher over the winter at less cost. We should have known we'd need one. Now everyone needs one and we are forced into a corner and to overpay.

I don't want to sound like a whinner but I don't like the deal.

I do think Pomeranz has a chance to continue nearly as well as his recent tiny sample size of success playing in a big park division, a laid back atmosphere and just 100 IP. He's a good pitcher with some upside potential still there, so I'm going to try to be optimistic.

I'm going to still be a sox fan in 3 to 8 years- God willing!
