Beni is only at 350 career PAs. He's on pace for these numbers after 700 PAs:

.278 18 88

.348/435/.782

40 (2B+3B)

18 SB/ 2 CS

2.4 (projected) WAR on BR and fangraphs

He's no Fred Lynn, but he did come up a year earlier than Fred.

There is always an excuse.

Why are we comparing him to Fred Lynn?

Fred Lynn was a Gold Glove winning All-Star CF for arguably 12 years.

AB plays LF and has 306 career AB's.

The media has been panting hard about AB and they have been making the comparisons.

It's means nothing, but Seattle has three rookie outfielders -- Mitch Haniger, Ben Gamel and Guillermo Heredia -- who have posted higher fWAR than Andrew Benintendi this year (in fewer games):

Of course Yankee outfielder Aaron Judge leads the way among rookies.

No excuse.

.

I never said Beni would be the next Fred Lynn.

He's doing pretty well. I think he'll improve as time goes by, but he'll likely have dome tough stretches here and there.

Most of the media must not have ever seen Freddie play.

The media types who make comparisons like that before a kid has played much are just being idiots.

Him and Betts got the quickest hands on this team.

You might be right - he probably has a bright future. He may become a very valuable player for us going forward.

I think it may have been Jim Rice who started the comparisons with his old Gold Dust Twin Lynn. Well intended, but premature to say the least.
