That is what I have been wondering. Doesn't this bozo coaching staff of ours know that in order to correct motor memory problems one has to keep repeating the new process to eventually eliminate regression. That is what has done; regressed back to the old bad habits.

 

I'm sure they do. I'm also sure the player has some responsibility in this as well.

 

And as a700 said, it's a bizzare game on Price's part. Rays are hitting .500 on balls in play play and K'd 9 times, so it's not like last game where Price showed up with nothing from the start.

Home runs can be rally killers. Gives the pitcher a fresh start. I'd rather see 4 straight singles. Same total bases, 1 and probably 2 runs and you still have 2 guys.

As has been alluded to, it's been a weird game.

 

Offensively, other than an error in the first, the Sox didn't get a baserunner until the 5th when Bradley walked. They didn't get a hit until the 6th.

 

Pitching wise, Price has 9 K's through 5. So unlike the game against the Rangers, he has stuff today. The Rays have 6 hits out of 12 balls put in play. Apparently a few hard hit balls coupled with a few well placed grounders, but the Rays bunched 4 of them in the 3rd for 3 runs.

Other than the Ranger debacle, he's been good in June. He's going to go 1-4 this month with a no decision (ironically, the Ranger disaster). His other four stats were 3 runs (2 earned) in 7 innings, 2 runs in 8 innings, 3 runs in 8 innings and 1 run in 8 innings. Not sure you can ask much more from a starting pitcher.

 

He could stand a little support from his teammates. The Sox have scored 2, 1, 2 and 2 in those games, and may be on their way to 0 today. Today he hasn't been great, but it hasn't been awful either.

He's not getting paid to "not be great" though. He's getting paid to provide ace-level production, which he's not doing.
