Where are all the posters who wanted him DFA'd?

Why does it matter? Calls for him to be DFA'd were not unjustified. He's still having a crap season, 13 million for a 5.42 ERA and a 4-11 record in his starts. Luckily we're salvaging a little from him lately, but who knows how long it will last or when he will get injured again.

I'm in between. Originally, I thought it made sense to resign him, but not after he had such a wretched first half of the season. Now I think he's overpaid, but like having him available to start or do long relief. He just might have found his way back.

Of the 55 pitchers in the AL who have pitched a minimum of 100 innings this year. Clay Buchholz is #50 in ERA. There is no way in hell he is worth $13M next year.

I was for offering Buch the option, but felt trading him after taking the option was the best idea. Let someone else take the gamble.

His $13M option for 1 year was the type of deal several GMs would want. Look at what similar injury-ridden pitchers sign for as FAs. Some get close to $13M for multiple years.

After this rotten year, I do not think Buch is worth the $13.5M. I'd pay the $500K buyout and wish him luck elsewhere.

Still here, and still wouldn't be mad if he was DFA. One good start doesn't forgive how awful he's been all season.

Needless to say I hope he does well every time he takes the ball for us. As do we all.

Obviously we want him to do well, I want everyone on the team to do well. But I don't see how someone can really make a post almost gloating as if they were right all along based on one good start, when Buchholz has been horrible for a majority of the season

Nice start by Pomeranz, but it makes me wonder what will come first: hell freezing over or a complete game by Pom.

Ya ok - Let's see - guess this means that you must have expected the kid to come back after the rain delay. Happens all the time doesn't it. lol - Give this this young pitcher a chance. He looked good and was good.

Strange comment...might have made a little more sense if this wasn't a rain-delayed game.

Why not brian johnson? Why owens? He

stinks!

@bradfo Henry Owens allows one run over seven innings tonight. In his last four starts, he has a 1.57 ERA with 29 Ks. Warrants watching.

Tup, nice little agenda he's got there.

Not that concerned with Pomeranz going short innings for awhile -- we knew going in that he was not going to be Mr. Durable, at least not this year. Besides, at the moment he's our 3, in our ideal rotation he's our 4. He's not necessarily the guy we need great innings out of.

How has his velocity looked in those 4 games?

This is sort of like when Drew Bledsow went down and Tom Brady took over. Bledsow stood on the sidelines relaying signals into his successor. When asked about having such a highly compensated back-up QB owner Bob Craft responded "It's like having a Cadillac in the garage."

Reportedly Owens has looked much better recently.

Of course this could mean anything. Like lowering his walks from 6/9 to 4/9.

I am pleased as punch with how he performed. Yes, 7 innings would have been nice. Mother Nature did not get the memo. He was cruising and quite economical.

Bledsoe was at the time still a very very good QB. Only a generational talent like Brady could have managed to sideline him. If Brady had gotten hurt in those early Superbowl runs, you could have taken your chances with Bledsoe and been pretty comfortable that you were in with a chance.

Who cares about his velo? His issue was throwing strikes. Soxprospects has stated that he's pitched better after adjust his pitching selection.

Nope, Bledsoe was kinda garbage. Strong arm guy who liked to kill drives with picks.

Moon is a baseball genius.....I actually do mean that. However......he also is a HUGE fan of patting himself on the back at odd times. You gotta take the good with the bad.

I agree.

At that point he was an average-above average QB. I have a soft spot for him because he did lead them in the AFC Title game - and was integral during the mid-late 90s when the team rose up from national joke to a legitimate factor. Belichick at that point chose Brady (who at that point really just threw checkdowns) not doing anything stupid over Bledsoe who (as a veteran) bristled a bit at that sort of deal.

Porcello....just doesn't walk a guy I enjoy watching his games

Price....can be very deliberate with guys on base.....he pitches deep into games

Wright....losing control for just one inning can unravel him

Pomeranz...he follows up his longest outing by his most efficient outing, albeit short due to the rain....This is the guy not long ago said that as long as his walked batters didn't score, he didn't care...UGH..20-30 pitch count innings

Clay....good Clay is back, throwing strikes...

Owens...his troubles are all self inflicted.....throw strikes young man...

Well, he did go 7.2 innings his last time out for his longest stint of the season, so maybe my statement was a bit overboard.

He's gone exactly 7.0 innings in 6 other starts this year, so that makes 7 starts out of 24 with 7 or more innings. He seems to use a lot of pitches to get to 5 or 6 innings, so I guess that was my point. I still doubt he gets a complete game this year- rain delay or otherwise. He may not even complete 8 IP.

I'm not trying to bash Pom. He's done well for us, and he's a big help to this team. He had near "ace" stats with SD, and his contract is very reasonable.

Spoken by the man who claims to be 100% correct on everything.... even at guessing how many toilet tissues are left on the roll.
