They had bases loaded with less than 2 out on 3 different occasions last night, if I recall correctly.

That resulted in a whopping 2 runs.

Yup, I'd call that bad timing.

It might be more frustrating to watch, but hitting the ball well is better than losing 3-0.

No worries, I'm plenty pissed about the bullpen puking all over themselves too.

There isn't one guy in there that can be trusted to come in with men on and get the job done and that includes our "closer".

I'm sorry, we don't have tough guys in the pen....they all seem soft. They pitch with absolutely no accountability. It happens time and time again. 4-1 lead and the guys are nonchalant. They all have small pieces in failure;it's a group failure.

I just hate Barnes demeanor. So above it all. I enjoy guys like Peavy. At least he owns it.

Did you see the Pomeranz' facial expression when he's taken out? One of disbelief. Hey dude, you got up to 90+ pitches in just 5+ innings. You constantly go to full count, throwing over 20 pitches per inning.

Pom sucks. i dont need 4 years from now to tell me this was a terrible trade by DD. a sss "all star" starting pitcher that hasnt even pitched more than 128 innings in any year and we trade away a high ceiling top ranked pitching prospect for him. terrible trade by DD. did i say that already?

I'm inclined to agree. Pom is soft. He throws way too many pitches to be able to get to the 7th.

We needed a 3 type and ended up with another 5.

Maybe he is really smart and will get better soon. I won't hold my breath.

I was against the trade even with the assumption that Pompom was a number 3 or 4. Now, we're possibly back to square one: looking for a solid pitcher with Pompom joining the long list of mediocre pitchers fighting for the 5 slot.

This is why I hate trying to rebuild a rotation from the bottom to middle. I know it costs more in prospects to get a true ace, but squandering smaller packages over and over, eventually adds up to one big package that had a better chance or getting a 1 or 2 slot starter.

I wouldn't say he sucks. He only gave up 1 run while in although he did through a lot of pitches. I think both Price and Pomeranz suffer from not having a put away pitch so wind up in long battles getting guys out.

We supposedly did get a 'true ace' though, remember...how's that workin' out.

The good news is we didn't trade the farm for Sonny Gray, at least...

I'm not sure I ever read anybody call him a "true ace".

Are you being sarcastic?

Some stats and metrics showed he was a 15-30 pitcher in the NL over the first 15 games of 2016, but I wouldn't say that made him even a number 2.

So far, he hasn't come close to being a number 2, unless you mean doo doo number two.

Jeez, I was obviously talking about Price.

Okay, but the last 4-5 posts were about Pompom, and I do recall some posters saying he had "ace potential".

Anybody who thinks Pomeranz sucks is full of ********. He is a mid rotation guy signed as a mid rotation guy. He has lived up to his reputation. Is he soft? Sure - I think so. but what the hell - Anybody who knows anything new what we were getting. Is there an upside with him - of course. But - yeah he sucks because the pigpen can't get the f***ing job done. Get over your Espinoza man crush and give this kid a chance. Maybe in 5 years when Espinoza is just lights out and on the loose DD will bring him back.

I wouldn't say a 5.26 ERA is "mid rotation" quality, but the sample size is teenie.

I won't get into any kind of arguement with you over this . Ain't worth it. Eliminate his first start and what do you get for an era. Probably though that is when era becomes an insignificant stat. Give it a spin, test and contort it. He is mid rotation .

I mentioned the teenie sample size and I guess his 3.97 ERA in the other games here is good mid rotation, but take away Ziegler's worst game and he's been decent too.

(Can't say the same about Abad.)

I can see Pomeranz as a mid rotation guy, but more like a 4 not a 3, and I'm not sure if he's more like a 5 than a 3, based on his career or recent 2-3 year numbers-adjusted for park and league.

Beni only play a few games.

But Betts/Leon were really the only players to not suck the last month. Pedroia is somewhere in between. The rest flat out sucks.

But, but he was an All Star, Moon!

actually he sucks because he isnt proven to go 200 IP and he never will because he throws 207 pitches in 5 innings every start....this dude making the all star team is a joke. like holt.

He's going to pitch a lot of inning these last two months. I don't think it's going to end well.

If Pomeranz is throwing 110-115 pitches and only going 5 innings 6 tops, He's a 5 starter behind Price, Porcello, Wright, Erod( if he is throwing like he is now). Nothing more to address. They traded the #1 pitching prospect for him. I don't care that they traded him, but I thought they could have packaged him an got a Porcello type pitcher. I like Pomeranz but no way his ERA stays under 3.50 in the AL, let alone pitching in the AL EAST.. no way...

We needed a middle to back of the rotation guy, and that is what we got. Time will tell if he can maintain a 3.50 ERA. His high strike out ratio is helpful in keeping an ERA low.
