I'd agree, but he basically already lost his job to Shaw. But he certainly needs to go be fat somewhere else, or lose the weight and start catching and hitting the ball again.

If the Sox are not planning to start Pablo, and the writing is pretty much on the wall, then I think they should trade him if they can. Pablo is not worth much as a bench player because he has not versatility.

Of course, our positional depth takes a hit, but who cares? We'll have the fat one off our team, and that's all that matters.

Who would trade anything for a guy like Pablo? The only way to get him off our roster right now is probably to DFA him.

The Sox would likely have to eat a lot of money. They would definitely be selling low.

If not, DFA him.

You keep thinking it's because he's fat, but it's because he sucks. I'd trade him for a fatter guy (Fielder) in a heartbeat. He can rake and can actually play a defensive position at a replacement level.

Pretty much. He was the worst positional player in the game last year. It's about performance, not body type.

Time to recoup some of Panda's contract with creative marketing ideas. Develop some fun new products that focus on the lighter side of Panda's corpulence. Starting with beach balls that are designed to look exactly like his belly as captured in that now-classic photo from the start of spring training.

If it carries an MLB license, it gets shared 30 ways. I don't think a team can create it's own merchandise without the MLB license.

If they find a way to trade him I'd be as surprised as I would be impressed. I hope they can get rid of him.... but I just don't know how any other GM picks up the phone and does not start laughing when Pablo's name is brought up.

Damn. There should be some sort of exemption when it's merchandise featuring a player who represents a financial albatross.

I agree we need to get rid of Sandoval but I doubt we will be able to trade him any time soon. He will probably be traded after allstar break. I mean so many people say we should get Sheilds for him but hes horrible at fenway and always gives up HR's. He did the same thing at PETCO park and that is a much bigger park than here. Someone said Shields was a solid #2 and I laughed so hard because thats not true at all.

Imagine of Pablo had not utterly failed last year. Suppose he had performed as he had in his earlier years in SF?

The Sox would have flooded the market with all types of Panda related merchandise. I would have puked at the cuteness of it all.

I have an idea, though. Since Pablo is not being counted on for his entertainment value on the field, Maybe the Sox should have races around the runway with team mascots and Pablo. Including, of course, the obligatory bumping and falling.

This would excite the masses no end!

This is the kind of creative thinking I'm talking about.

Pablo's agent did him no favors today. I am guessing Pablo insisted that he "go to bat" for him. Maybe should have sought the advice of a teammate before doing that. I don't think Ortiz would have recommended that he go down this road just so as to keep the fans now behind the dugout or down the 3rd base line if and when he plays from just letting him have it.

Not saying i am suddenly sympathetic to his cause. But there is no sense to making this worse and I just don't remember anything he had from the fans in SF getting anywhere near where this could get to here. Just the Ferrari comment alone is going to result in fans bringing huge bloated Ferrari signs to the ballpark. Oh God this could be ugly.

Also I did not know before today but Pablo's updated "official" weight is now 295. That of course means he is well north of 300 and probably well north of either my or spuds worst estimates. Probably gained 20 lbs or more just since the start of camp from the looks of it.

Think there is an opportunity here for the Sox to try to get something done here that helps the team and the player without stripping the player of his money or even trying to strip him of his money. The direction his agent took is disappointing on a number of fronts.

Sandoval and agent met with team, stated they were not happy and would be open to a trade.

You couldn't even make the best of it for 24 hours? WTF?

If Pablo and his agent are so eager for a trade maybe Pablo could EAT some of his contract so teams may bite!!!!!!

I know. The Union does not allow that. But still!

I will be the first to say it. Pablo does not have what it takes to play in the Boston market. At least from what I have seen.

f*** him and his feed bag.

Well, let's wait and see how Kimmi says the meeting went.

He may be fat but he is money come World Series time. So all we do is sit him all year, win the pennant, then unleash the Panda. That's what I would do.

1. Panda sits

2. Sox go to World Series

3. Panda is MVP

4. Profit

You just cannot play at that weight.
