Judge and Sanchez have light tower power. Judge has more, though. He can go where only guys like Stanton can. The question remains, can he make enough contact at the big league level. I hope so. He's ready. And he can't be worse than Hicks

Austin is an interesting guy. He was a top 100 prospect three years ago, then he tore a tendon in his wrist. He had surgery and lost all his pop. He was DFAd last yr and was signed as a MiLB FA afterwards. He was literally on his last chance, and lucky for us, his power came back. The kid can hit. He's better than Tex right now.

As much as the "youth movement" is needed, the guys coming in are going to be an instant improvement. We're somehow still only 3.5 games out. If we "rebuild" and sneak into the playoffs, there should be a movie made

So did Kevin Maas.

Chad Green dirty tonight. He pitched well, but still has a lot to work on. I'd like to see him get regular starts unless he completely loses his s***. Servino needs to go down to Triple-a and work on some of his stuff. Just needs to refine himself more.

We certainly have some openings. Right now, CC, Tanaka, and Pineda are pitching well enough to be locks. After that, it's an open competition. Green has no more need to be in AAA. Really, none. The guy has a sub 2ERA in the minors. He has blow away stuff and should be kept in the rotation from here on out. Severino needs to work on the changeup. I thought he used it deftly last year, but he lost the feel for it. He can get by as a reliever with a fb-slider combo, but after going through the lineup once, guys figured him out. When he goes to AAA, they need to tell him that he has to throw his changeup X amount of times per start. If he doesn't develop that pitch, he'll end up in the pen. And that is a huge regression for a kid who looked like a future ace last yr

Onto the kids, I am pretty impressed by Judge and Sanchez. Very mature approaches to the plate, light tower power when they get ahold of one, and the capability to go the other way. They will work their way into the middle of the order in due time. I am actually really surprised, albeit pleasantly, that McCann has basically been relegated to DH duties. I thought Sanchez would come up and platoon DH and C, but he's been the every day catcher for a bit now. And from what I have seen, I am impressed. Good arm, received well, blocks well, handles pitchers well. He's been awesome. I would like to see Austin supplant the ghost of Mark Teixeira on a regular basis and even get some play over Aaron "I SUCK' Hicks in the OF and Chase "I am a large singles hitter" Headley. Austin is an unusual utility guy. He can play all corners in the IF and OF and he can run enough to steal double digit bases.

Jacksonianmarch i don't think girardi's going anywhere even if they don't make the playoffs. There's growing pains with young players. Castro has played well for you guys.

Castro has been hot and cold. We are getting good power out of the position, but at the cost of poor OBP and below average defense. He needs to remember who he is. He isn't a 20HR hitter. He's better as a .300 hitter

Is Kaprielian done for the year? Would be nice if he could give them a late season boost but again I don't know his status.

Not sure if they have any other big league ready starters to bring up. Maybe Acevedo or Chance? Or maybe they can stretch out Cessa. Should be interesting how they address the final rotation spot.

There's no point in ramping him up. I continue to question our system's treatment of our pitchers when it comes to arm injuries. Their passive nature usually costs the player two years of development time instead of one. I expect to hear about TJS for James either in the fall or when things ramp up in February

Yanks are playing very well.

Thanks for beating Toronto, but don't get too out of hand!

You know how much I hate the Yanks?

I'm pulling for the Jays in this series.

I kept having to remind myself that we are chasing the Jays last night. My hatred for the pinstripes is in my DNA and it is hard to break the habit even momentarily.

McCann provided 2+ WAR every year and was phenomenal defensively. I think we got out of McCann all we could ask for. He was a bridge to avoid rushing Sanchez. It worked

im not sure a 0.7 dwar is "phenomenal" but perhaps you and i have different levels of expectations. especially on what $17MM x 5 should provide when the d numbers fall off a cliff year 3.

5 years is one long-ass bridge.

LOL And he still has 2 years remaining on that contract, doesn't he?

I wanted McCann when he was a FA, but not for that price.

yup. 2 more years after this one at $17MM per.

although a long shot there could be another year if he vests:

2019 - $15M Team Option - Option will vest if he totals 1,000 PAs from 2017-18, catches 90 games in 2018 and is not on the disabled list at the end of the 2018 season

Yup, he's going to be an expensive back up, unless they can unload him.

Sounded like they tried before the deadline.

I'm guessing that they will somehow unload him, either by eating a good bit of the contract or by trading bad contracts. My understanding from reading between the lines is that McCann is not at all happy about his lack of playing time, not that I can blame him.
