taz is NOT a closer - a weak mind, lacks confidence. Machi came in and threw ONE pitch and got his man out. He could have thrown to another batter or two. Closer by committee is the only solution. taz is NOT. He was lucky yesterday. Good for the 8th inning and that's it.

some still say that any reliever can close.

Castillo looking like he, you know, doesn't suck, but merely had not played a lot of baseball for a significant amount of time.

Huh. Go figure.

Still too soon to tell, obviously, but it looks like we may get the player the Sox thought they were getting.

I don't care. UConn and the Jets may both suck, but I'm a fan of the game. I miss playing so much. On Sunday afternoons, you won't find me in any locations that aren't the living room, bathroom, or the line in between. I do most of my homework during the NFL Network pregame show. Good times. And on Saturday nights, I'm huddled up in there watching ESPN's NCAA Game of the Week.

Saturday afternoons > Sunday afternoons

Tough play for pablo. I'll let it slide because he's made a number of excellent defensive plays today.

He looked bad the first half, but his second half defense has been much better. For all the flack he has gotten, he makes some really good plays.

You guys still want Taz to close?

He should probably not be the closer, but in fairness to him, he had been very good up until the past couple of weeks. It's possible that he is just spent.

That sucks. On the positive side, the Yankees lost and the Jays are winning.

Disappointing loss, but it always eases the pain when the Yankees lose.

Yes, but only because Sunday afternoons are closer to Monday mornings. ;)

He still make bonehead plays but even I have to say he looks much more like what we were told we were getting.

There is no denying his athleticism. Again, today, he went first to home on a double. That is a very useful skill.

I agree about the bonehead plays. Hopefully, that will improve as well.

This is ********. He makes routine plays look great more often than he makes great plays.

Today, he did this again with a simple one step crossover to the left and then another play where he simply dove to his left to snare a ball. Both nice plays to be sure.

But almost any competent 3rd baseman would have done the same.

His massive belly prevents him from having good range and making extraordinary plays.

The guy just is not worth his contract no matter how many "really good plays" he makes.

Get rid of him asap.

Oh yeah. Teachers hate Mondays just as much as we do.

Does Taz still have an arm hanging off his shoulder? He has been used and abused.

It's called collateral damage. This is why you have to build a solid rotation. Our rotation taxed their incompetence to our BP.

Taz should emit an invoice to our rotation. Hopefully they didn't damage his arm.

No one is claiming that he is a Gold Glover. But he is not nearly as bad as we've seen him play this season. Recently (2nd half) he looks more like the defensive player we should have seen all along. He has always been average to slightly above average.

He made some really nice plays yesterday. Perhaps any competent 3rd baseman would have made them, perhaps not. Either way, he has played at a "competent" level recently, which is the point. He has always been a competent 3rd baseman, especially for one who plays in so closely where he has less reaction time.

His innings are pretty much in line with what they were in 2013 and 2014. But he does seem to be worn down and should probably be DL'd or shut down for the year.

I don't care if the Sox trade Hanley or Pablo.

Just trade someone so the endless bitching stops...

I hear that. But they have really done their best to make themselves look like terrible investments.

He lost his splitter release point, which makes me think it's a shoulder problem. He isn't driving the pitch down, it just floats in the zone at 88MPH, making it a flat fastball.
