A thread like this is needed to keep all of the trade rumors, possible proposals, and any trade related stuff in one place as we get closer to the deadline later this month.

I am team Cueto. Prospects don't always turn out, let's atleast enjoy the ride.

I'd go after Cueto and Price if the Tigers go tits up.

Spend another $200. mil or so and lock them both up.

Cueto is the best of the starters available. That said Hamels comes with control, which is important. I would not hesitate to deal Margot and/or Owens in the right situation.

$200 mil will get you one of them and not much else.

Trade for prospects. No short term guys please.

You have to cash in your chips eventually. This system just churned out several major league players and it is still stacked.

BTW: Guerra might also be tradeable, for essentially the same reason Margot is. (high floor, considerable ceiling and position is blocked at the big league level by a youngster already)

Cueto all the way! I know he is a 'rental', but maybe you can make the deal contingent on him agreeing to a long term contract. Trade for Cueto, then sign him to a 5 year deal. This team is desperate for a #1 starting pitcher, and Buccholz ain't it.

Does the Cincy FO really want to let him go? He's leading the NL ASG Final Vote and how much of a let down would it be for the fans that are voting for him nonstop all day to see him play the ASG at his own park, and then be traded about a week later? I don't think that's realistic. They don't expect him to be traded. At least Phillies fan have known all year that Hamels is probably going to be traded.

I suspect they will wait until after the ASB. Cincy fans know.

Do Cincy fans expect that their club will spend mega dollars to resign Cueto?

Whats your trade offer for him? I'm just curious to see how you guys value him.

He's going to cost something nice. I wouldn't be surprised to see it cost someone like Margot, but who knows, maybe it could be done with a group of lessor prospects instead.

Unfortunately, it seems at times that the ones the Sox trade do turn out.....and the ones we keep dont.

Samardzija and Cueto are the jewels of the trade deadline. Cueto is the best pitcher obviously. He's gonna cost a ton mostly because Toronto, LA, NYY, Boston, Baltimore, and Chicago are in on him. My guess is he's going to Toronto, as I think they'll empty their farm for him for a shot at this thing this yr. I'm skeptical that the sox would deal the necessary pieces and be willing to pony up the 7yr $210 mil contract it'd take to keep him

The Jays have dropped 9 of 13 and are back to .500. Emptying the farm for Cueto sounds like a pretty bad idea. But emptying the farm for rental aces hasn't been the trend anyway. Just look at last year.

There is an unusually large supply which may keep prices less insane than usual. Cueto, Kaczmir, Shark, Hamels, Latos, Haren are all clearly available and there are plenty of other excellent pitchers on bad teams.

Ben's job may be on the line here, so he might just go for it.

Ben's job is on the line. I'd prefer to get Hamels, but Amaro has been very difficult in negotiations. We will probably get Kazmir, because he will have the lowest price, but he is a big TJ risk.

I don't want the Sox to empty the farm - that said there is depth at SS and Margot is blocked too. So there is tradeable surplus and it's why you have them.

You can't eat all of your crops. You have to sell some to pay for the tractor and other equipment. There are always crops to sell, whether it is a good crop or bad crop. The next year there will be another crop. In the meantime the major league team is in disrepair going for an unbelievable 3rd last place finish in 4 seasons.

The Red Sox are only 2.5 games back from 2nd place. Its definitely possible that they have a respectable year even without trades. However, they are going to need to get an ace next year anyway, so it makes sense for just to get Cueto now, show him the perks, and sign him before it gets too cold in Boston.

Without adding pitching, imo they are at best a 4th place team. They don't have enough pitching to win consistently and the hitting will likely have another slump in mid August in the dog days. Pitching will have to win games then and we don't have enough. I do agree with you that we need to add top line pitching for next season, so why not add it now and give this team a shot.

Thanks for posting this. I have been trying to say this on the minor league thread but I guess I haven't been clear enough. Hernandez (sad that many posters here have not heard of him}+ Margot+ the next one could be picked from the young potential starters (Johnson,Wright, Owens, Barnes) might create an attractive package. I know that you are familiar with Hernandez so before anyone goes into attack mode check him out. Not bad for 22 year old.

They could potentially add pitching from the farm system. Johnson and Owens could both turn into middle of the rotation guys, and Wright still seems like a decent pitcher.

Porcello/Kelly/Masterson have ERAs of 5.90/5.67/6.14 in 220 innings. Even if we could replace those with 3.80/4.30/4.50 ERAs, that turns into a lot of extra wins.
