I feel like I want to puke when I write this....... but Hammels and Papelbon would give us a very good chance this year.

Although I may be forgetting other teams in the ALE are going to get some help too......

And I hate Papelbon

We're going to have to give a lot for those two.

I hear you....... and I don't think we would want to give up what they are asking. I highly doubt that it could be done.......

But if we could pull it off it would be cool.....

I haven't posted in ages.

First, Bogaerts rocks. Nice win, gotta love seeing the good side of the bullpen and a QS from Miley.

Second, I watched the highlight of Bogaerts' bases-clearing single (!) and the first thing I thought was, "That delivery can't be legal!" I'm gratified to see that you all didn't fail to talk about it; thanks for the discussion and the links.

They likely don't see what he's doing, or simply disregard the rule. Read the last sentence. "He shall not raise either foot from the ground ... except he may take one step backward, and one step forward with his free foot." No competent speaker of English could misinterpret that sentence. (I realize that excludes ESPN posters with juvenile avatars and middle school humor tags.)

I agree with you jad, and the bolded part is my guess. But you are right -- regardless of what MILB or MLB has told him, it's an illegal pitch by the text of the rulebook. I mean, heck, what's to stop him from making more than one hop? If he can hop forward once, why not twice? Why not hop forward 6 or 8 times on that back foot and then throw a 98 mph heater from 40 feet away?

I don't disagree that he's been told it's legal. But it shouldn't be. And it's not sour grapes, because he got tagged with the loss tonight!

Pobably Blake Swihart, Henry Owens and a lower level prospect. Would be nice to get those two players though.

Until recently, we have shown no ability to come from behind.

Having a good bullpen changes that. They need to shut down the oppenent so the team has a chance to win. They did in 2013 with all those come backs.

Yankees just lost. The Red Sox are back to 5 games out of first place. That's close enough for me, hopefully they can pull in a pitcher.

Oh, and one more thing. Why do you think Capps has that delivery? What's his motivation? His current delivery is the natural throwing motion of exactly zero people in the history of the world ever, including Capps himself. He has added that hop to his pitching motion somewhere along the line. And what's the only reason to add that hop? To shorten the distance between the rubber and the plate, i.e. to gain an (unfair) advantage. Unless someone can provide some other reason for the hop...?

Yeah, and the rest of the AL East is getting even tighter. The O's are being routed, and the Rays may lose twice today.

I wouldn't mind choking on that.

We are definitely within striking distance.

Oh man....... you're right......... it's going to take something to get those two. I'm sure there is going to be some major wheeling and dealing coming up.

The AL East is eminently winnable. Cueto (with an extension) please.

That is perfect. We need another good right starter. We only have clay and no one else in sight in the minors

Rentals are always tricky. Is Cueto worth one of the high ceiling guys ?

Giving up one of Devers/Margot could hurt, but Cueto might push this team over the edge.

I don't think anyone here thinks going all in for this year is the right thing to do. Like UN said...... an extension.......

But damn...... Today I saw Devers stats for what.....an 18 year old.......... his stats make him a man among children.......... how good is that kid anyway????

Good enough for me to be totally fascinated. If he is in Portland next year, you can dream as much as you want.

I think Margot is possible - he has tremendous potential, and being in Portland before his drinking age is great. At the same time, CF looks like it will be well staffed for a while. Margot alone might be enough to get the Reds attention. Would he be an overpay for a dozen Cueto starts? Maybe - but it's at least a position the Red Sox could deal from strength.

The Reds won't trade their star pitcher for one AA prospect.

That would be extremely dumb.

And as UN said, the Sox need a deal and an extension.

Cueto is leaving for a big market team after the offseason anyway. One top prospect or two mid tier prospects tends to be market value.

that sounds good until you note that only one Top 50 prospect moved the entire trade deadline last year, and that included deals where Lester and Lackey moved.

In all fairness, Escobar was #56 and E-Rod was #65.

i like Cueto but only with the extension. The Sox have plenty to deal with. Hernandez(22) is an all-star AA shortstop- Margot gets your attention but when will he see boston and what becomes of Brian Johnson - . Lots of possibilities here.

What does help are Margot and Johnson (in particular) look to have very high probability - the range of opinions I read about both are about their best outcomes, but they both look like very likely starters.
