At this point, I just can't fathom how bad Ortiz and Napoli are this year. Both of them have had huge declines since last year. Drop offs of epic proportion.

And those two I believe, are the main reason our season has been so bad.

And...... no one could have called that. Not a drop off THAT bad.....

Napoli's decline started last year.

You're right...... . . . I guess I bought into the surgery thing and all. Naps is one of my favorite also...... so probably more thinking with my heart.....

But damn...... Those two are killing us...

The team hits, pitches, fields and runs the bases poorly. It turned out to be as very balanced bad team, but let's give Ben another mulligan, because we should have hit.

That porcello contract was just awful. Cherington needs to be f***ing fired!

Rusney is a very expensive extra outfielder.

...and Panda?

Should we call it season and start searching and rebuilding the FO and coaching staff?

Next year's draft is suppsed to be top notch. Fire sale.

I'm feeling late to the party........ but it sure looks like it to me.

Let this season ride with FO and coaching staff, no sense in causing the disturbance during the season. Start getting the right players for next year. I think we have a good nucleus to start with.

If we are last again, or next to last..... the FO and coaching goes right after the season ends...

I still think there is a chance to turn this around. They will have to take some action soon.

How? Nap, Ortiz, Betts, Swihart, Sandoval are all hitting poorly.

Hanley in left on D. (Hopefully part of the change gets him our of there)

Castillo in rookie mode, Betts and Swihart also.

Pitching is suspect.

And all together the whole team is lackluster...

ER looks like a stud. They need to make a move for a top pitcher sooner or later. The post steroid era dictates that they strengthen their pitching. Get Hamels and hope the offense starts clicking.

You are betting that some of them "can get a little of the magic back". We've been waiting a long chunk of the season for that..... Is Nap or Papi done???

I think Betts and Swihart, like JBJ, and Mookie the year before are just overpowered and need a year to adjust. Betts will come around next year, Swihart a little longer. Who knows about Castillo.

We will be able to have a good debate on the catching situation this off season.

I'd be shocked if Hamels alone could put us above 500. But picking him up for the next few years may be worth it. It's the price....

At the beginning of the year I thought we would see an offense like we haven't seen. I've been completely wrong.

Hamels is a terrible, terrible idea. If they're going to break the bank for a pitcher, they should go all out for a young, cost-controlled guy.

If the Phillies eat some of his salary and the prospect price is reasonable, Hamels would help anchor the staff for a few years to come even if he can't help push us to the post season in 2015.

The years going forward would be more interesting to me than this year. I don't think he would have the success he has had in Boston........ gut feeling....

I'm guessing the Phillies still want #1 prices....... and I think he is a number #2.

Not sure how I feel about hamels but my guess would be that the Phillies asking price now would be even higher than before. I still like Betts. He hits the ball hard but as for the rest, many of them might not be as good as we think they will be. I do think that we need one more "real" pitcher and not another stiff to go along with Rodriguez. I still think that Johnson deserves a look. The real need is obvious. Anybody who can hit. If they are not going to make a trade, they need to start moving young guys around. Find out if they can get it done. The real definition of stupid is doing the same unsuccessful thing over and over day in and day out.

They need to get Johnson up to the big club fast to see what they have in him. The risk they run is that he is not the real deal and he gets exposed hurting his trade value. Whether or not they make a move for Hamels, they will need to get some veteran leader on this staff going forward.

I agree. I really think that it is a waste of everybody's time to keep Johnson in Pawtucket if he is healthy. I have seen enough over the years to tell me that we don't move one way or another our prospects until sometimes it is too late. Some do in fact take some time to develop but in most cases you can at least see something that would make you want to keep or trade them early on. 22 makes you a man - not a boy. As for position players, I would still keep Betts. Anything goes for the rest. When decisions get made it would be nice to think that they were right ones. Many of our moves look reactionary and done on impulse to me.

How is it possible that the Phillies haven't traded Hamels or Paps already? It's amazing how long they've held onto them.

I don't think the Sox would give up what the Phillies would want now anyway.

signing two third basemen over the winter and sticking one of them in the outfield was not well thought out.

They are supposedly in talks with the Cubs and Blue Jays for Papelbon
