You are willing to put your money where yur mouth is. If people don't want to bet the under on a 4 ERA, they don't really believe their own rhetoric about Porcello.

LOL! ...I think that the betting conditions are pretty friendly, considering all the talk around here. 150 IP+, Under 4.0 ERA.

I think that 4.0 ERA is optimistic. I think he is going to be pounded.

Anger management issues.

I haven't insulted nobody. The betting thing is just for fun and could add some pepper regarding Porcello.

Listen, I win either way. If Porcello performs well, It will mean that he will give us more chances to win more games and I'll be happy, but if he shits the bed (like I think), at least I will charge 100 bucks LOL

In your case YTN, I would take a sig bet, what about that?

Sure, a sig bet sounds fine. ERA under four, I choose yours, over 4, you choose mine. 150IP minimum, if he ends up under that due to injury, ineffectiveness, or trade, the bet is off for both of us.

Porcello has FIP and xFIP of below 4 each of the last 3 years FYI.

Wait? So what you're saying is that with a better defense he may actually pitch to his peripherals? BUT THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!

iortiz...

I'll take your bet. Let's make it that the loser pays the $100 to a charity of the winners choice though.

I haven't posted much here in the past. I started just after 13 WS(the first season I had followed the game). I don't know if anyone will even remember me, I wasn't here for long before going travelling so posting wasn't much of an option(although I'd still call in and have a read to catch up when I could).

But, I'll be sticking around now, so if you're happy to take the bet from a new(ish) poster under the above stipulation, I'm in.

I can't watch NFL games unless I have some betting interest, even if it is just Fantasy stats. Wagering makes things interesting. It doesn't make you an *******. Neither does having a low opinion of Porcello.

That gives you an edge, Doji. Take the easy money. :)

Considering that it is for charity and you are kind of newbie, what about 20?

You win if he posts an ERA under 4 AND 150+ IP, otherwise I win, deal?

None of the other Tiger pitchers had such extreme differences in ERA and FIP. Porcello actually outperformed his FIP last year and one of the years his FIP was barely under 4. Pitchers who only K 5 per 9 tend to be volatile in ERA. I think it is being overblown how bad the Tigers defense and how much an improved defense will help him.

Neither of us can know that for sure. Let's wait and see, but there's certainly reason for optimism, that is undeniable.

I do agree - a tick up in the K-rate would be a little bit reassuring. Red Sox ARE above average at 3 of the 4 infield spots - although the left side is a little dicier. (because of Bogaerts' uncertainty)

I do wonder how many Sox fans actually realize how positive the projections for this team defensively is? Now it got REALLY positive (2nd in the AL) if you accept the pitch framing impact measurements for Vasquez. (and I'm not sure how much Hanigan and co drops off there) But if Bogaerts improves enough and Ramirez does not get totally bamboozled by the Wall like Crawford did, this team should be a very good defensive squad.

Stop your common sense.

I do not like pitchers with horrible SO/9 like Porcello, unless they have proved the opposite in a decent sample like Mark Bueherle did with the CWS. As A700 said, they should have waited at least a dozen starts or so (a year to me) in order throw that amount money at him.

You should post more.

The only bad defender on the Tigers defense last year was Castellanos. The right side of the defense was much improved with Cabrera replacing Fielder and Kinsler playing 2B. Porcello has been usually bad against lefties but was much improved last year which could very well be due to the improved right infield defense. I think last year was his ceiling.

Edit- I should say the only bad defensive infielder. The OF was still a dumpster fire.

If it was, and he can be 90% of what he was last year, that's a pretty good pitcher.

If you are that optimistic, why don't you take the bet?

Don't forget, Iglesias was hurt last year. The Tigers had issues at shortstop as a result.

*******? Haha how's that?

Saying "sig bets are for boys" and calling Kimmi "lady" makes you sound like an ******* tbh.

I don't post often because I'm only a fringe Red Sox fan. I'm a Tiger fan first so this topic interests me and I have watched Porcello since he broke into the league. My favorite Porcello moment was when he threw at Youkilis ;) and his game 163 start.

because it's a long season, of course. I'm reasonably confident in Porcello, but that doesn't mean it makes sense to stake anything on it. It's baseball after all. Anything could happen, and for nearly any reason.

Honestly? I'd take it if it was anyone else. But I hate you with the passion of a thousand burning suns, and don't want anything to do with you, even if it's something as simple as a bet.

Now go away.

Yes, such anger management issues that I haven't been banned from this board (unlike you, Fred, UN, etc.)

Sig bets for boys and lady? Really? Haha Cmon man, I think you are pretty sensitive today.

Suarez and Romine were adequate at SS although Iglesias would have helped for sure.

Romine had a -2.7 UZR.

Suarez checked in at -0.1

They were below average defensively.

Honestly, we're arguing for the sake of arguing. Point is, dude's been improving for a while, and there's reason for optimism that, even if he's not 2014 level, he's going to be a pretty good pitcher.

I take offense to being lumped in with a700.

Thousand burning suns, Really? LOL!

I think that if you lose you won't know how to handle it haha.

What about if A700 bets on my name, and I cover the fee. Technically you won't deal with me hahah.

Sure I'll take that. If he hits 150 innings, I'm pretty confident he will be under 4 ERA. $20 isn't going to break the bank either way.
