Do you live in Florida? I disgree with you about the Grady Little game 7. In fact, if I was within 100 yards of him at that time, the cops would have had to pull me off of him. That being said, it is all just opinion here. Some people here insist on capitulation-- not too many thankfully. Spud is definitely not one of them. Don't make a few nasty exchanges make you leave the board.

As for bullpens, their use has evolved throughout the years. I think they will continue to evolve. I don't think it is farfetched to think that multiple inning relievers like Goose Gossage will not emerge and then their success will be copied. Whitey Herzog had some interesting ideas that were and would still be considered radical that he never implemented. He felt strongly that the best use of pitchers was to change the pitcher every 3 innings and pitch guys more often. Of course, the players union would go nuts. That would tank the market for starters.

Have a home in Florida but I live in Maine. I enjoy reading your posts. Keep them coming - I am retired now so it gives me something else to read. Thanks for the encouragement as well. I know myself well enough to know that I should never had started posting. Thankfully I do have other things to keep me going. Have a good one.

Block some posters if they irritate you, especially those who get their ya-yas when they get under your skin. Don't let the terrorists win.

Actually we live right in the center of the state. South of Orlando. It is much quieter here and a nice golf course that just beat me up in good shape. Close to Winter Haven. I am really a Mainer all the way but I do like this climate. It is a nice place to get away to.

I also agree with you about Grady and Pedro. I wrapped up my 40th year of coaching this year (only 15 though in baseball). He would have come out of the game and Manny would not have liked me much either. In this forum, we are inundated with technical statistics which I am sure help scouts determine who will succeed and who will not. I am quite curious about what their projections for Jackie Bradley might have been. Is it possible that the stats tell the story that they want to hear. As for XB- I hope he makes it - I really do but in the game of basketball we have a saying "The ball don't lie". I don't care what all of the technical gurus say, I want to see it on the field. I do not see him as our shortstop of the future. I was a teacher and a coach 700 - I actually am fairly thick skinned - I am making a comeback and it is nice to have someone sensible to communicate with. If you are a golfer, you come down here, we'll play and the price will be right.

CP---You will find on this board that there are a few---thankfully only a few---that will act like they know it all and if you disagree with them and are proven right they will either resent it all to hell and maybe even flee the board for months on end. XB is an example of that. I have said on numerous occasions that his total ineptness trying to hit with men on base was one of the most critical items in our disappointing season this year. I said he looked like a choker after the first home series that I attended, and though I was proven right, there was only resentment from some that I was. Too bad. We have opinions and this is a forum so stick by your guns. The latest bone of contention, aside from Bogaerts, is whether we need a NO. 1 pitcher or not, and from what I've read some are already willing to accept the front office propaganda that we can get by without one. I take the tack we need one and need one badly because if you depend on winning a majority of 8-6 or 9-7 games that could amount to 35-40 games on the season......you will have a hard time winning anything.

LOL!! Lighten up. He called you a meatball. That is far more refined than what most of us have called each other at one time or another.

If it was just that one post, I wouldn't have cared. He just seems to be overly antagonistic in every single post.

I am really not. If you think that I am, that is ok too. It looks to me like if you have a little different opinion, you pay a price here from some. The innuendo that comes from some of these posts does not sneak by me. Who are you? How old are you? What constitutes "old school" to you? Are you or were you an athlete? I am a passionate guy. I called you a meatball which I consider to be a somewhat friendly term. You called me an *******. What do you think? You want to communicate great. You do seem to be a bit of a rebutter to me as opposed to a creator but what the hey right. I am a Red Sox fan. I do not and would not criticize your opinions. Check your posts out - there always seems to be a little bit extra added. We can communicate or not.

Please don't do the third party thing with me. talk to me MVP 78! What does that mean anyway- Come on.

Meant to say do not do the third party thing. Hey , come on ,I will only post for a short while then I will be gone. Even in retirement, I am pretty busy.

You mean like you, and what you did in 2012? Why pot, meet kettle!

Also, everyone here has the right and ability to post whenever the hell they want. Douchey antagonistic posters like you and cp are the reason this board is a shell of what it used to be. GFY fred.

Luser - I am not an antogonist. I simply respond negatively to idiocy. Are you the "Captain" of the board or were you? Oh by the way just a guess but I think I might rival your self created and indulged jn intellect. Give me some more techno stats. I just love your posts.

I apologize, I should have have called you tricky or something. If you are a conservative, I take it all back but I don't think that that I will fail to respond to your pompous little ******** innuendoes. Now we might be getting somewhere. You sure you are a Sox fan?

Fred - i agree with you . I have stated my opinion without criticism or malice toward anyone - simply my opinion. We need a number 1 and it ain't Porcello although he helps -- the other two perhaps perhaps not. i do not have a high opinion of Hanley Ramirez. He was shipped out of town for a reason. Looks good though on paper considering what we got in return. B Castillo? Who is he? Does anyone know? XB - I think that he will hit and I hope that he fields. That comment has elicited much criticism from the techno geeks on the boards. I don't think that it was negative at all. I want him to succeed but I'm not quite ready to hit him with the Hall of Fame Stick like Luser does just yet. I am quite guilty of doing that with Jackie Bradley. Won't happen again.

I was going to bow out - not going to happen. Just got to thinking what I have done since I was 22. I have asked on numerous occasions of the most antagonistic posters that I can see on this board, what they have actually done with respect anything athletic. Got nothing so far. I know what your history is - theirs' not so much. Oh by the way- I also refute their comments about me negative with respect to their posts. I have not been. Only to the snide little remarks. I am guessing that the big S stays in Motor City and unless we make one more sign we aren't going anywhere. As you have so adroitly stated - I ain't drinking that cool-aide.

Paps biggest problems is that he gets paid Starter money to pitch only 50-75 inning each year.

You have to be really spectacular to be worth what he makes.

Simply, he makes to much money for what he offers his team.

That's absurd. No small number of closers have made more money than Papelbon.

Thanks again It takes me a little time to figure things out occasionally but I think I got it. there are posters here that I really think have some common interests. Has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing with each other. Either is ok. That is how we learn. It has everything to do with common values that many of us grew up with.

Who? "No small number of closers have made more money than Papelbon" would indicate that there is a significant number. Please name the "No small number." At the time Paps signed with the Phillies, it was the largest contract for a closer. Maybe you have a different measure of "more money."

KMA you loser!!!!!!! Twice you've been exposed as a bloviating moron with one bad prediction after another and twice you've fled the board in embarrassment. How long before you flee the scene this time. As for the board being a "shell" as you call it, perhaps it's more that new posters who don't drink your Kool Aid and are little more than front office bootlickers are showing up and letting the front office have it with both barrels due to their ineptness the past year----topped off by their disastrous handling of the Lester matter. Now if CP, iortiz, 700 Hitter or I had been in charge of the team Jon would have still been with us. You see, some of us do think we know as much as Henry and Co. about talent. We don't drink the Kool Aid. So put an egg in your shoe and beat it before you embarrass yourself again.

Do you think the bullpen is now set with Craig Breslow in fold? Or do you think they are one piece away from a shut down pen?

Thank you Pal

I didn't see the nontender I thought he was still under contract.

He is coming off Tommy John will he be serviceable at the start of the season?

I think it is worth taking a flyer out on him Dupree. Personally, I believe we need to try and build a knock out bullpen, talented and as deep as we can make it since our starting rotation has a lot of question marks and no clear ace. Now I'm hearing rumors that we are once again in on the James Shields derby.

I don't think there is a clear ace in the Eastern Division. The Red Sox have a very competitive batting order, decent infield and outfield, and I like their catchers' abilities to frame pitches. The Red Sox have retooled and prepared to contend. This isn't the Theo era, but that ended with the LA trade. I am happy with the Red Sox.

Alex Ogando would be a terrific add to the pen.

If healthy he would give the Sox a power arm in the pen. That is something they lack. I think he is one of those guys who hurt his arm when the Rangers tried to make him a starter. For the right price I would take a flyer on him.

Probably the best thing to do is avoid sports talk radio in order to maintain your positivity. I deleted their buttons from my car radio about 4 years ago. :D

This. I used to listen to sports talk radio while commuting each day. Now I hardly ever listen to those bafoons.

I must say that the original Sports Huddle on WBZ Sunday nights was pretty fun.

Very simple - in the era of hyperspecialization, the 9th inning guy matters somewhat.

HOWEVER, the last 4 world champs found their closer during the season ... Tampa's ability to create closers from other team's garbage is well documented. There is no reason to ever give a Papelbon deal to anybody, even Craig Kimbrel or Aroldys Chapman.
