Last year the bargain basement approach worked, but to win a WS, or at least get close takes money spent on keeping quality players, (Eillsbury, drew) or signing new players. This year the sox won't make the playoffs, papi had a monster season last year, doubtful he repeats. Grady Sizemore is a complete bust, Bradley plays good defense, but his bat and speed is no match for Ellsbury. Bogarts should be a back up to Stephen drew and middlebrooks. The sox just plain suck:rolleyes: Edited by joeycaps

Is the reply of someone with no life, I've seen you on other forums, It must be nice to have no life and post on every forum available., you wanna start with your usual trash talk, than no problem, you got it loser

Well now we're seeing just what it costs not to re-sign a guy like Ellsbury. It's not just money; it comes down to wins vs. losses when a player who makes a difference is involved.

Well, if you're gonna start to turn over your roster to younger players that seem to have good careers ahead, I can't think of a better year to do it than after winning the WS. Realistically, even if we had the exact same roster as last year, the Sox weren't going to repeat, so why not get younger and get your future stars on board now?

Sox have a history of letting great players get away starting with Babe Ruth and the yanks are always waiting.

Is this the return of a troll from yesteryear?

Yesterweek, actually.

OP, the Red Sox won the f***ing World Series last year due in large part to Ben's "bargain shopping", or as intelligent people call it, being a good GM and not blowing your wad on every single free agent that walks through the door. Your opinions are completely invalid, so please vanish forever.

The $panks paid all of that $$$$$ for Ellsbury and are still only one game better then the Sox as of May 17. An as good of a start that Ellsbury has had he still can't pitch. The $panks have one starter that they know will give them a good outing every time out. The baseball season is so long that to be going into panic mode in May is just crazy. Lets see where things are at on July the 4th.

The one stopper will keep them competitive by avoiding prolonged losing streaks.

It is crazy to go into panic mode in mid may. Dodgers were in the basement of the nl west until like early July and then they pulled off a historic run and made it all the way to the nlcs. This year, a lot of the late inning games that did go our way last year are now not going our way(For a recent example, the two twins walk offs that came off of Andrew Miller) Unless an al east team besides the red sox starts to take off, their is no need to panic now.

True BUT, if we wait til panic time then it might be too late or our reaction to the panic might be out desperation which doesnt bring about good results in theory. Maybe what we could do now is buy us another insurance arm, one that could either start or come from the bullpen. Another Aceves.

I agree. Panic time is usually too late for meaningful action, and the conversation at panic time is usually just a post mortem. This is the time to analyze the team and figure out what is wrong with it if anything. Some people think we need to sit back say nothing and wait for Ben to tell us what is wrong with the team. Unfortunately, none of us are on his speed dial. Those same people don't tolerate analysis of FO moves after they are made, because we are not qualified to comment. Let's just shut down message boards altogether under those guidelines. LOL!!!

This team is not playing well. We don't need advanced statistics to tell us that. We also don't need advanced statistics figure out what is wrong with the team. Buch is horribly under performing compared to 2013. The 3 kids haven't figured out how to hit big league pitchers so we are fielding half of a batting order every game. Victorino can't stay on the field and his presence is crucial. We may need an additional reliable bat. That's about sums it up.

Gomes, though I get my Italian up with the best of them, I bought into the front office's hyping of our young talent....I should have stayed cynical. Bradley cannot hit, he has two or three blind spots and he has a slow bat. Bogaerts is the next best thing to a gusher but he can't hit with men on the bases to save his ass. Middlebrooks still can't shake himself loose, his calf injury earlier in the season setting him back and makes us wonder when he will go on a tear. Farrell's batting order is abominable having X batting sixth when he can't drive in a run. Bradley belongs at Pawtucket and Herrera has no business on the team when a better hitter and base runner like Brock Holt is still in the minors. This team looks no better than it did the first two weeks of the regular season. I'm now beginning to wonder if the front office hasn't over-hyped a few more of our prospects as well.

It's cathartic -- a very positive way of releasing emotion. It's much more positive than snark or nastiness.

It's annoying -- a very negative way to whine. Snark is funny to those of us who possess thicker skin.

We have a difference of opinion on that, but nastiness is not positive.

All of us have been nasty to one another at one time or another. Some poster's manage to bring out the worst in others.

The "he made me do it defense" is rarely successful because it is not a good excuse for bad behavior and nastiness is not good behavior.
