This is what happens when you send the guy who pitched the 8th inning in the World Series to Pawtucket.

Don't let that fool you. The Red Sox were up five in Game 6, and tried to put out fires with Tazawa in the 7th the other two games.

Koji is 39 and coming off a season where he threw more innings than ever before. We need a guy who can be the back up closer. Be prepared to see a lot of Mujica in the 9th.

Shhhh, don't rile up the natives like this. Alao, don't mention Koji's injury history...

Farrell's got balls for putting Mujica out there tonite. But this Yankee lineup is not the Yankee lineup of old.

Ellsbury is their 22 million dollar rabbit. Sizemore hits for more power at leadoff.

Red Sox sitting pretty right now compared to this time last year.

That's just bad karma.

Koji had the greatest relief season EVER in baseball. If he never throws a pitch again he's still a legend in Red Sox lore.

I have a Koji jersey with a 2013 WS Champs patch. No regrets

Kind of funny to be chanting "Boston sucks" when you're starting infield is Kelly Johnson, Brian Roberts, Derek Jeter, and Yangeridfifgjshdhd Solarteheejdcdjdj

haha. that says it all.

Years ago, in the playoffs, I remember that call at 1B at Yankee stadium that went against the Yankees. I forget the details. The next day, Steinbrenner kicked and screamed in the media about that call. Since that time, I can't recall the Yankees ever getting a close call against them in Yankee stadium in a big game. The notorious one was the HR they got in RF when a kid caught a ball in play with his glove.

Reports saying some mild shoulder stiffness for Koji tonight. Farrell held him out as a precaution.

That was the only logical explanation. April 11 is too early for people to be pursuing Farrell with the torches and pitchforks.

What about the umps reversing 2 calls in Game 6 of the 2004 ALCS? Does that count?

They do have to protect him. If he has a stiffness, they can't take any chances. The guy is gold.

Well, Sox are 2-0 when I have a game. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. Man did I have fun tonight. Classic team bonding on an hour long bus ride to and from the game, which we would win, all with a stop at McDonald's.

Uehera had to be unavailable, and Tazawa already pitched the 8th. Mujica seems like the only other choice.

The only way this can be true is that you throw out hindsight. The Red Sox might have not been projected to win as many games in April 2013, but only because they couldn't possibly project the Red Sox exceeding expectations at every position. In that case, I agree, but I don't think that really proves anything positive. It only convinces me that we are going to regress from last year. I would have paid out bets on the over season win total (83) in May last year.

This is the main reason why I still have the Red Sox winning the AL East, despite some legitimate concerns. The Red Sox are definitely worse than last year, but the rest of the division didn't get much better. The 2013 Red Sox would have won this division by 20 games.

I would dispute the notion that the Sox are "definitely worse" than last year. A lot of what this season ends up being rides on the development of some guys (WMB, JBJ, XB, Workman) whose performance none of us can accurately project.

Winning this game will just encourage future stupidity from the manager.

Glad to see some who also believe that Farrell does some stupid things out there. He got away with one tonight when he brought Mujica in there, but Ed did do a good job of ending it so perhaps he may have turned a corner. Koji is reputed to have a stiff shoulder. Hey let's just feel good about the win tonight and make it two straight tomorrow if we can go out and get John Lackey five or six runs. The hitters need to start hitting, Sizemore needs to be kept in the lineup and, some may disagree, I would like to see Pedroia moved back to third in the order where he hit last year. Pedey-Papi-Nap at 3-4-5 is a pretty potent trio and move Bogaerts to second in the order. Just my opinion but Grady and those four in order might wake up the hitting ghosts.

oks, it's time to show the money to Lester. Lock him up already.

Nice win.

Right you are iortiz. Ben has to stop dicking around and get Jon's name on that new contract. There is a holdup on either money or years and if it is the latter then give him more money. If it's years give him a little less. Certainly they can work that out without the front office risking losing our ace. And despite what that ******* Peter Gammons says about the Yankees never signing Lester, if he leaves us, that's exactly where he will wind up.

Hyperbolic on my part, but the Red Sox RD record was 100-62 last year. They have not replaced the production lost to free agency, and most of the returning veterans should not be expected to match their 2013 numbers. Faster development of the rookies can close the gap, but it would be too optimistic to say they will be able to match it. Short of making a trade, it is extremely unlikely the Red Sox win 97 games outright, let alone have a RD record of 100-62, or a total WAR of 58.3.

@PeteAbe: Japanese scribes who cover Koji and Taz report that Koji played catch and long toss today, seemed fine to them.

WTF Farrell?!? The reporters said he looked good to them!!!

Me and mvp are just having a little sarcasm-off here.
Because we don't have enough sarcasm on message boards. Dummy up. You are older than me. You should know better than to emulate someone who is so obnoxious. ;)
