If ellsbury went to a doctor without approval from the Yankees and then re-aggravated one of his numerous injuries as a result, I think he's not getting his $26m. Maybe they'll both settle at a lower number.

The Yankees will pay him one way or another. But really this whole "not our doctor" things feels like desperation from a fan of a team that watched Pablo Sandoval just completely give up. At least Ellsbury was trying to get better, but now the Yankees are searching for technicalities rather thn just up to their deal and sknowledge that they signed the guy through age 37. We all knew he wouldn't be good through that age anyway...

That was one pinstripe defection that had most Sox fans merely shrugging. Bradley was waiting to take over, and he could actually throw. It kinda sucked when Boggs and Clemens went to NY specifically to win rings that they -- Rog in particular -- couldn't deliver for Boston. Youk was just trying to hang in there (we weren't saying boo).

But the all-time worst had to be Tiant. He didn't have much left, but Looie should've retired as a Red Sox. The most clutch Sox pitcher in my lifetime, and that includes Pedro... Front offices can insist that "it's just a business", but that was bad for business.

We should be grateful that legal decisions are not based on the limited information available to this forum.

It's actually quite simple: ownership is trying to screw an employee. I vote for the employee.

Are you sure of that?

It’s not that simple. You wait for the full details to emerge. If Ellsbury followed his contract, then I agree with you

The MLBPA has filed a grievance against the New York Yankees for their decision on the contract dispute with Ellsbury. According to MLBPA the Yankees owes Ellsbury 26 mil for the 2020 season that's 21 mil in salary and a 5 mil dollar buyout. The Yankees claims that Ellsbury used a non approved doctor for his treatment and rehab but the MLBPA and the doctor said he didn't treat Ellsbury for any on field injuries or any rehab. Apparently Dr Viktor Bouquette is inflammation specialist who treat and control inflammation he also said he's got documentation that the Yankees were well aware of him treating Ellsbury for inflammation because they sent him a list of ban substances by MLB that he couldn't give to Jacoby. Scott Boras Ellsbury's agent and Gerrit Cole's agent is saying that the Yankees are trying to get a break on their luxury tax as Ellsbury 26 mil salary and buyout would go against their payroll with Cole's contract that would put them as one of highest payroll in the MLB.

Ellsbury claims he going to play baseball again someone who's willing to gamble will get him at league minimum.

Dr Bouquette is a problem. He’s an EM doc, like me. Yet he went down the non sanctioned route treating environmental exposures and “inflammation” with unregulated and frankly dangerous treatments based on poor or non existent data. Here is a GA board of Med censure of him.

Chelation therapy is incredibly important in toxic overdoses. Chelation for bogus reasons can have bad outcomes. I’d be really surprised if the Yanks allowed this doc to treat him. Now, if Ells consulted with this guy and never got treatment, then he should be paid. If he received any treatments, then the Yanks have a case

Yankees are just trying to weasel this out. Who cares what doc he sees. Docs are there to treat people. People can seeks second and third opinions. He was sitting and not getting better. The Yankees payroll doc can eat a tampon with Cashman and Hal.

It’s a pathetic move to save money and nothing else. So now suddenly, after who knows how long, Ellsbury’s medical treatments are an issue? This is almost as bad as when Steinbrenner didn’t like the new CBA and threatened to cut the dental plan for office personnel, you know, the ones whose combined salary is less than a utility infielder...
