The Yankees offered Choo 7/140 after the Ellsbury signing, but ended up going with Beltran. Apparently they still have money to spend.

Oh yeah, they have more spending to do (Tanaka).

Seems like he turned down a 140/7 LOL! if true Boras is a f***ing greedy bastard. Choo should fire him. I bet he aint gonna get that money anywhere else. Plus, Choo doesn't worth 140 by any means.

I would love to see Choo and Boras get f***ed on this. I'm sick of hearing about how Boras is the best.

I heard on ESPN Los Angeles radio news this evening that Yankee Fan Boras has been traveling at a frenetic pace the past few days trying to drum up some interest in three of his charges......Drew, Choo and Kendrys Morales. Right now he is getting nowhere with them. It would be a shot in the arm for baseball if the owners and GM's give this guy a big middle finger on all three of these money hungry bastards and they all wind up getting a one year parachute contract, but there are still enough suckers out there for YF Boras to still make some hay. Boy it would be great if he got a bloody nose and his three cohorts with him.

Choo's going to get a huge contract. Morales and Drew are going to get shafted because of the draft pick compensation attached to them.

I really don't understand the Boras hate. He's trying to get the maximum value for his clients. The only people who should hate Boras are the billionaire owners of MLB. I'm not going to waste my time feeling sorry for them if Boras extracts a few extra million from their pockets.

I just cannot fathom Brian Roberts being anything but a utility guy. If we're going into the yr with him pegged as our second baseman, then we're asking for it. Last yr, we lost Jeter, ARod, Granderson, and Teixeira for most of the yr, 4 guys who have been pretty healthy throughout their careers. These injuries happen, but letting Cano walk and filling his spot with a guy who'll get hurt if you look at him crosseyed is asking for it. I know we have some minor league IF talent, but none that should be expected to contribute in 2014. The idea that we're effectively guaranteeing a need there is really interesting. I still think our offense will be better, but we're gonna have 130 games or so of Brendan Ryan that we're gonna need to stomach. And we still haven't done enough on the mound.

Showalter: Brian Roberts will be good fit for Yankees

By Joel Sherman

December 19, 2013 | 12:38pm

Since taking over on July 29, 2010, Buck Showalter has managed 582 games for the Orioles.

Brian Roberts, mainly due to injury, played in fewer than one-third of them — just 161 in all.

Nevertheless, Showalter saw enough, particularly last year, to envision Roberts being a

significant contributor to his new team – the Yankees.

“I had a good relationship with him,” Showalter said by phone. “We are going to miss him.

He is competitive. And I really like him. You saw glimpses [last year] of what everyone used to see,

and I believe it is still there. He takes very good care of himself. He has something left. I’d be surprised

if he didn’t do well for the Yankees. And I mean that.”

Showalter acknowledged there is a lot of maintenance with Roberts, 36, whose past four seasons have

been overwhelmed by injuries to his hip and hamstring that necessitated surgeries,

and prolonged battles with concussion symptoms.

Nevertheless, Showalter said Roberts “fits” the Yankees, and by that meant:

He is a patient hitter who will work pitch counts, draw walks and even give a tough lefty-on-lefty at-bat.

Showalter thought Roberts was a smart enough hitter to capitalize on the Stadium’s

short right-field porch and predicted 10-15 homers were a reasonable expectation.

Showalter said Roberts’ range has been affected somewhat by injury and age, but that he is a steady defender at second base.

Showalter expects some transitional issues for Roberts, who has only played for the Orioles in his career,

but the former Yankees manager pointed to attributes that will make Roberts’ Baltimore-to-New York switch easier.

“Brian is smart, Brian is media savvy,” Showalter said, “and I think Brian will be a good teammate.”

Roberts cleaned out his locker after the Orioles’ final game, and Baltimore officials took that as a sign

he might want a change of scenery, might want to join a team with a richer history of recent contention.

Baltimore executives still believed they would have some chance to counter offers,

but Roberts took the Yankees’ $2 million bid without notifying the Orioles, who probably would have gone to that amount

— maybe a drop more — to keep a player long viewed as a favorite of owner Peter Angelos.

I don't need a puff piece to make me feel better. I need Roberts to not end up on the DL if someone breaks wind in his direction. We still don't know what player he is if he stays healthy. He's old as f*** now and is 4 yrs removed from being relevant. And a big part of his game was his speed, which I expect is likely gone with the fact that he's running on rubber bands that are tied back into place.

did not realize the thread was all about you

comments from a players ex mgr gives it a tad more merit than your avg ''puff piece ''

it was posted for all the doubters to pause and a reason to smile for those who want to believe

it's a 1 yr 2 mill contract perhaps you need to chill

I can see Roberts getting hurt putting on his jersey when the $pankees have a presser to announce the signing of another old guy. Roberts WAS a good player, but that was awhile ago.

With Tanaka now posted, we’re about to find out if #Yankees are serious about $189m threshold. No way to pay Tanaka and still stay under.

we’re about to find out if #Yankees are 'the giant' anymore

if they don't get him this will be the biggest fail since cliff lee

Since the Sox aren't in the hunt it would be nice to see someone else besides the $pankees land Tanaka. I've read he wants to play on the west coast, and that the Cubs have a strong interest in him.

So Tanaka is getting posted and it looks like we aren't going to let him go. Lets say we sign Tanaka, is that enough to be playoff bound? I still think we need one more pen arm, but adding Tanaka plus retaining Kuroda and getting healthy should help. If we close the deal on this kid, I think we end up making it back to the October tournament

Definitely not a lock, but good enough to be in the mix.

There have been rumors of the Yankees dealing Gardner to Cincy for Bailey. Both are in their walk years and Cincy needs some OF help after losing Choo. The Yankees, obviously, need pitching. Gardner did have the higher WAR, but front line pitching has a premium. That being said, Homer has a problem with the homer. Great American is a bandbox, but YS is worse.

A 200 inning, 200 strikeout pitcher with an ERA in the mid 3's is worth a ton.

Gardner is the kind of player that looked very valuable based on WAR, UZR, and SB, but he seemed to have lost a step in 2013. Mediocre CF defense, 25% CS, his lowest career stolen bases, and a Yankee team trying to get rid of him? Gardner is a good player, but he isn't worth what he was in 2011, and certainly isn't worth a very solid #2 starting pitcher.
