Just watched the video of the Ellsbury rundown. That was pretty pathetic. He was dead to rights twice in that rundown. The last time Adams threw the ball, he was just about on top of Ellsbury, who was already slowing and turning back toward Adams. All Adams has to do is take another step and tag him; instead he throws (low) to Kozma (I think). Then Kozma and the pitcher have him dead to rights and Kozma double pumps when Ellsbury is already almost past the pitcher. Lame-o.

Here's an actual question for those of you who watched the game. My understanding was that Wacha's deadliness was due to a mid/upper 90's fastball and a devastating ~87 mph change. Victorino's double was hit off a ~93.5 mph pitch and Drew's HR was off a 91.7 mph pitch, according to pitch f/x. I guess my question is, was the guy running out of gas after an arduous postseason? He did top out at 97.4 mph last night, which is pretty dang fast. But he couldn't muster up extra velocity for Victorino in a crucial situation and he basically threw a nothing pitch to Drew. (Though admittedly there wasn't much reason for him to suspect that Drew was going to jump all over a get-me-over first pitch fastball and hit it almost 400 feet.) Just a bad night for the kid?

It's a good question but after all the lame ass excuse making that all the announcers had for the Cardinals in this series I just couldn't care anymore. They got outplayed in every aspect of the game and were pretty damn lucky not to have gotten swept in my opinion. The only time I saw the announcers begin to come around to the idea that the Sox were a deserving team to win this all was last night after it was clear that the Cardinals ran out of time to perform miracles. They can all feast on s*** today. Sorry to not really take your question into account but in the end, Wacha was just out pitched as was the case with pretty much everybody they faced this October.

He didn't make the play because he's old and slow. It had little to do with him judging the distance to the wall.

He can run faster than he was running there. He was not even running. He gave up on the thing as much as anything else but it NOTHING to do with his age.

I guess Ells left wrist and hand were much worse than what we could see under that big wrap. Not sure how much of this was just Ells way of expressing how the wrist and hand felt but apparently he told teammates that they had to win game 6 as he did not feel like he could have played in a game 7.

Beaneater, i noticed the discrepancy in his velocity relative to his first outing too. Couldn't quite put my finger on why though.

Pitched 200 innings this year. Maybe a little overextended for his age? Maybe he stopped throwing as hard since he was struggling with location. Maybe he was just part of the vast conspiracy to have the Sox win?

I thought he ended at 180? It was his first professional season though.

I heard it mentioned on the radio. The stat may have been wrong.

Good point.

That's it! Fans of other teams, take note: if you want a WS parade next year, just organize a little terrorist event in your city. No need to actually kill people, though; just a few maimings would probably be sufficient. Then no matter how crappy your team, Uncle Bud will rig you up a WS victory!

If more than one city has a terrorist attack, the World Series victory will be accorded to the team that yields the most number of inspirational photos of players bonding with victims.

Gah, conspiracy theorists drive me nuts.

I'm sticking with my lucky AL Champs hat. The WS hat had designs on the bottom of the brim which would drive me crazy.

Your English is great! Give yourself more credit!

If I had to write all my posts in French, it wouldn't be anywhere near as good as the post you just made.

Thanks, mvp. Actually, I work in Argentina for a Canadian-Australian company and my English has improved a lot in the last two years. Nevertheless, I'm not so confident when writing in English without a dictionary (it took me more than 5 minutes each post), that's why I usually don't post during the games, instead of only reading.

Going back to the game, and given that i'm a new Red Sox fan (I started following the Sox after 2000), I felt like last night game was even more impressive and exciting than the 4th game of 2004 WS. I think it's because i've followed it on TV, and all that you can hear is the crowd in the ballpark, but it was incredible last night when Vitorino hit that double. Fenway park literally exploded, I don't remmeber anything like that in all this years watching baseball.

It does help to rally around something. This year, it was the Marathon bombing. Plus the beards. Those beards were a uniting factor, too. Just like the old Dirt Dogs. Builds team character. These guys have an identity now. You don't want to lose that.

ok memorabilia you guys have any ideas on what I should get. a mini helmet would be nice right/./

I'm getting a shirt and banner to put right next to my 2004 and 2007 banners.

Hate the idea that we have to wait till spring for more Sox baseball but happy as hell for the 2013 team. They really deserved to be WS Champs. Were the best team and the beat all the rest of the best teams.

Yeah. I'm thinking the same way. Sad to see it end, but greatly deserved and anticipating the title defense season.
