Pirates or Dodgers for me. Pirates just because of novelty and the fact that I'm a sucker for black and gold. Dodgers because a Red Sox-Dodgers WS would be all kinds of f***ed up.

As for the others, Cardinals are old hat, although I do like the fact that the loss of Pujols hasn't had any noticeable negative effects on them. They don't give a s***. Cincinnati is maybe the most forgettable team in baseball. They're finally good again and still nobody cares. Similar deal with the Braves, nothing jumps out about them, they're just kinda there. I'd much the Cubs and Nats be relevant instead of those two teams.

Braves have always been my NL team (born in SC, spent many years in Richmond attending Braves AAA games, etc.). I'd be really happy to see them beat someone other than the Sox in the WS.

Don't really care one way or another about the Cards, Reds, or Pirates (other than, in Pittsburgh's case, just generally liking to see the underdogs do well).

Dislike the Dodgers for some reason but agree that a Sox/Dodgers WS would be some sort of spectacular karmic explosion.

I'm going to call up FOX and ask them to fire McCarver and Buck and replace them with Vin Scully and Orsillo if the Sox and Dodgers meet in the WS.

I don't really care about teams in the NL, but there is a lot of guys I like watching play who it'd be cool to see win a championship IF Sox Don't. I'm a huge Brandon Phillips fan and also love Shin-Soo Choo's game, so I'm definitely rooting for the Reds..

I also wouldn't mind seeing Pittsburgh make it. Like someone else mentioned, I like underdog stories and McCutchen is the man.

I may have mentioned it before, but I have a lot of family in Renfrew, PA, which is near Pittsburgh. My grandfather was a huge Pirates fan until the 94 strike, after which he refused to watch baseball ever again, and my father is a lapsed Pirates fan who only knows that they have sucked for the last 20 years. As a Steelers fan who was raised by Pirates fans, I would love to see the Pirates win it all, if it wasn't for the Sox. If for some reason the Sox don't make it to the Series, I want Pittsburgh to take it all. I know the phone calls from my relatives in PA will be awesome.

In a lot of ways, this reminds me of 2007. I always followed the Rockies, from the time I became a baseball fan. They were my NL team, the team that I rooted for when they were playing anyone except the Sox. And then, they finally make it to a World Series, and I couldn't root for them, because they were playing against my team. If the Pirates make it, I will be in the same situation again. It doesn't matter in the end, though. I won't lose any sleep, because I am first and foremost a Red Sox fan, and will take just as much joy in the Sox pounding the Pirates as I did when they absolutely embarrassed the Rockies. And given the way the Pirates have played the last two decades, just making it to the postseason is a hell of an accomplishment.

Vin shouldn't be paired up with anyone. He flies solo.

Red Sox v Pirates World Series would be my pick -- both franchises deserve it. Red Sox v Dodgers would be a huge win for baseball... but I really don't want them to get to the WS.

I feel the same way. The storyline for Sox-Dodgers would attract viewers from all over. However, in this new WC format, we have yet to see a WC team advance past the DS. I'm not sure how hard it is.

I'd prefer to play the Reds or the Braves. The Cards scare me because of Wainwright. The Dodgers scare me because of the two-headed monster at the top of their rotation-- Kershaw and Greinke. The Pirates are a sleeper. They seem unlikely, but if they get some confidence they could cause problems.

Kemp is done for the year.

Dodgers shut down hobbled Matt Kemp for playoffs

By Dayn Perry | Baseball WriterSeptember 29, 2013 8:01 pm ET

On Sunday, the Dodgers announced that outfielder Matt Kemp would be shut down for the remainder of the 2013 season. The Dodgers, of course, are preparing for an NLDS match-up with the Braves, and Kemp won't be able to contribute regardless of how far they go in the playoffs.

Kemp, who's been afflicted lately by an ankle injury, was on crutches Sunday, according to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times. And then there's this:

Kemp this season has lost almost 100 games to various injuries and has hit just .270/.328/.395 when healthy. With that said, vintage Kemp is an MVP-caliber performer, and he had been showing signs of a surge lately. Normally, the Dodgers could fall back on their outfield depth, but Andre Ethier has himself been seriously hobbled of late.

Obviously, consider this the wrong bit of news at just the wrong time for Don Mattingly's club.
