1. Expanded replay will suck because the overly high amount of challenges makes it so you don't have to use challenges wisely, which wastes an opportunity to add more strategy to the game. Without adding more strategy, there isn't enough you get out of expanded replay to make up for the loss of entertaining manager and player arguments.

Implying they can't place limits on replay challenges per team.

Implying replay use can't become more efficient overall.

Implying that down time during a replay is any worse than down time when the umpires would blindly huddle at midfield.

2. Sox could lose the first round of the playoffs IF they peak too early. I wouldn't make a serious prediction that they would lose.

They could also in the first round if they skid to the finish line. What's your point?

Buch is 11-0.

The most wins ever for an undefeated pitcher was 12 (although 3 were from relief appearances). If he wins two more he could make history.... only possible because of a long DL stint, but still a cool accomplishment.

It was very encouraging that his results were so good tonight when he clearly did not have good stuff or command.

Joe Girardi for manager of the year? U serious

If the Yankees make the playoffs, I'd give it to him no hesistation. I feel like Farrell is the front runner, but Francona has done an excellent job in Cleveland. Not being biased, but with that shitshow we had in 2012, he better win it.

The current proposed expanded replay system is 1 challenge throughout the first 6 innings and 2 challenges from the 7th inning on. However, if you get a challenge right, you don't use up your challenge. This means that managers will get a minimum of 3 challenges a game in a sport where we see at most 2 game-changing missed calls in a game. If challenges got used up when used successfully, then we'd have strategy in deciding when the most efficient time to use challenges is. More strategy makes the sport more entertaining. The bottom line is that baseball is for entertainment, so whatever option is more fun for the fans is the one you should go with. With expanded replay, we won't have manager arguments anymore because they'll just challenge instead of arguing (unless they used up all their challenges, but this won't happen because there's too many challenges). Manager arguments are entertaining, so it's bad for the sport to get rid of them.

The proposed replay system has more challenges in the end of the game than the beginning, implying that the end of the game has more game-changing moments than the beginning. This just isn't true. They should make it 1 challenge through the first 5 and 1 challenge onward, and remove the ability to retain challenges when successful. Or, just make it 1 challenge for the entire game. Most games have between 0 to 1 blown calls that affect who wins, so even one challenge per game would be more than enough. Baseball has a massive 162 game season, so even without expanded replay it's still the fairest sport in the world for deciding who rightfully makes the playoffs. I don't think we should remove a big chunk of baseball's character (manager arguments and controversy) and make the game more boring just to make the standings slightly more fair. Discussing how expanded replay should work in the playoffs is a totally different topic.

I don't have a proven-correct opinion about this, but my point is that it's far from a no-brainer to accept the proposed replay system.

Managers arguing is not entertaining to me at all. It's a waste of time, never effective, usually disingenuous, immature, and a terrible example to kids. If you think its 'entertaining to watch a grown man scream like a brat in another man's face watch the WWE.

This may be the dumbest argument i've ever heard against anything. I can't even find a funny example to compare it to. Please stop.

You know what's fum for the fans? Fairness. The outcome of a game should never be left in the hands of the "human element".

I was aiming for this series when I planned my trip to Boston. Sucks I had school, because this was the best series this season. Assume this team makes the WS, I need to find my way up to Boston again. I just won't be able to spend a cent until 2014 lmao.

Getting homefield advantage is the best way to make sure you play more games at home than away. (excludes WS which is determined by a dumb and outdated scrimmage that shouldn't count for anything but does)

5-6 the rest of the way gets us 97 wins.

8-3 gets 100 wins.

Last week, it was 13-4 to get to 100. Seemed hard.

A few notes:

• The Yankees have lost seven of their last 11 games. If they miss the playoffs, the Red Sox will have played a big role in that. The Sox were 13-6 against the the Yankees this season, outscoring their rivals 120-85.

That's the most wins in a season for the Sox against the Yankees since the 1973 team was 14-4. It's the most wins for any team since the 1976 Orioles went 13-5.

“Boston has done an absolute number on us. They’ve basically whipped our [butts],” Rodriguez said.

• David Ortiz took Mariano Rivera out for lunch this afternoon. "That's my man right there. A special person. I'm glad we had that ceremony," he said.

When the game was over, Rivera walked from the bullpen back to the dugout alone. Some fans behind the dugout waited to applaud him and other fans who were making their way out of Fenway turned around and joined in.

It was a very organic moment and Rivera paused several times to wave to the fans before he disappeared from view. He probably will never step foot in Fenway again and clearly wanted to take one more look around.

• Mike Napoli had an interesting night. He hit a mammoth home run in the first inning that gave the Red Sox a 3-1 lead. He has 22 homers this season, seven against the Yankees. That's the most for a Red Sox player since Jimmie Foxx had eight in 1936.

Napoli also has 89 RBIs.

Napoli also did strike out twice and now has the team record of 178 in a season. Rest easy, Mark Bellhorn.

That's a ton of strikeouts. But the .357 on-base percentage and power certainly outweigh it. Napoli also has played surprisingly well at first base.

• The Sox are 11-3 in September and have averaged 7.1 runs.

• The Sox are 32 of their last 32 on stolen bases and have 116 on the season.

• The Sox are now 50-25 at home and have won 10 of 12 at Fenway.

My well-written post about the reasoning behind wanting baseball to be entertaining and have strategy is dumb? Maybe it just seems dumb because it doesn't agree with you. I'm actually putting reason behind not wanting expanded replay instead of just saying it's all about the human element etc like most opposers have been saying. I'm somewhat okay with a more minimal challenge system as I said in my post, but anything over 2 challenges per game is going to waste an opportunity to add strategy to the game. Remember that I'm only talking replay in the regular season, not the playoffs.

I didn't post my reasoning. A post can be well written with a point that makes very little sense, with your post being the poster boy for such an occurrence. You are saying that keeping a clearly unfair aspect of the game as it is instead of upgrading it and making it fair is bad for the game because it "brings down entertainment value". I'm sorry, that's just dumb bro. The point about having too many challenges may be somewhat valid, but that is only the proposed system, certain to be hashed out before being implemented, and it will probably mean more than two challenges, but it will depend on the situation.

Your ideas are quite simply logically unsound, no matter how well they are presented. I bet if the Sox lost the division by one game this season because of a clear mistake by a member of the umpiring crew that could have been amended with expanded replay, you would be singing a different tune, regardless of "challenge numbers".

Stewart may be the worst position player in all of MLB. He can't hit, throw, run or play D. What a waste of a roster spot.

I hope the Yankees keep him around for as long as possible.

Seems like we had those types not so long ago ourselves. Remember our Stewart, the pitcher? How about Lillibridge, Repko, Thomas, Hottovay, Gethright, Bonser, Hermida and Pena? Thank God it's the Yankees who have those types now.

That pitch looked higher than Joba's blood pressure.

That fat ass looks like he's never heard of the word diet. Can you believe what that slob has become? Either the Yankees ruined him or he ruined himself. Well, let's give both of them credit.

That compound fracture of his leg on a trampoline was the turning point. All downhill since then.

Gotta keep playing hard. Absolutely need to have the best record in the AL, and the A's are only 2 back in the L column. Do NOT want to have a short series against the Tigers

Right you are SFF. We don't want to lose our momentum as the Dodgers seem have done and the Braves who are also blowing hot and cold. The Red Sox are once playing with terrific success at Fenway Park and we need to have that going for us in the upcoming playoffs.

Do the Rangers remind anyone else of us in 2011? They are falling apart in September, while the A's keep increasing their intimidation factor.
