Lyle, you had no chance from the get go.

It was like watching a drowning man fight a crocodile by beating it with his shoe. Entertaining and dramatic to watch, but pretty much a foregone conclusion and not really effective.

So you mean to tell me that as you watch the whole thing play out as it should have...you are still going to argue the point? Are you Farrell's long lost cousin? By the way...Ueh is up tonight. You want to tell me you wanted to trust this for six outs?

Because the Red Sox were lucky enough to have Soriano run into an out - that life turned out as it should have? I am amazed you are arguing to use inferior pitchers for a more important situation. Uehara did the setup job earlier this year quite well - there is no magic in the 9th and the score - just baseball. Farrell has some weird habits at times - treating Uehara like he is good at his job is not one of them.

Yes! This went from laughable win to disheartening loss to dramatic win in about twenty minutes. This game was like a whole season condensed into ten innings. All statements to the contrary and despite the suckitude of the bullpen, this kind of game is why I love the s*** out of baseball.

I think Vic just blew Dell off in his way past. I think he is bushed, hurting, dying to get on a trainer's table

Someone find me a football game with this level of excitement. Find me a football game where every single second is a possible turn of fortune. You can't, because in even the closest, most dramatic late-fourth-quarter football games there is ten minutes of stopping play to regroup and mill around like students waiting to go back inside after a fire drill.

Baseball is, hands down, the most exciting sport that we have ever created. Nothing will ever come close to the ninth inning of a tied baseball game for sheer, unmitigated terror mingled harmoniously with exhilarating glee.

Go Sox. Go baseball. f*** the Yankees!

The team has terrific spirit - survived a lot of adversity - a lot of it self inflicted. But it's Sox-Yankees. Getting close to tracking magic number time.

This is the kind of L, that stays for a while. Thanks God we weren't who took it.

Oh.. And BTW... DFA Thorton.

They will need to get him some rest down the stretch to get him healthy for the playoffs.

I'm sorry but you are blind. You saw the thing play out..you saw Ueh struggle to get three outs and you want to commit him to six. At best, Farrell would have been justified in having Ueh go four outs if he had to. He did not have to because Bres did not have to come out and you can't go back and blame the Soriano play. I can just as easily say, the Sox do a poor job of holding runners and the old man never should have been able to steal the base in the first place. Besides Bres was pitching to a LH hitter at the time AND got him out. Staggering...I can see making the argument if the thing did not play out exactly as it should have but continuing to argue the point while not trusting your own eyes is a kind of stubborn I will never understand. So I'm out.

By the way, what you don't do is use your "superior" pitch when all he can get you is a tie at best. Using the closer in the ninth on the road is just plain dumb.

Well, depends on the game - but yes. If you can't get revved up about tonight or that Rangers-Cardinals Game 6 (or the David Ortiz moment of glory in the 2004 ALCS) ... as Louie Armstrong noted, "if they don't know, you can't teach em"
