So far I LOVE what I've heard about this trade.

Jose Iglesias still isn't much of a hitter, better than the past two years, but that isn't saying much.

Jake Peavy for a year and half! On reasonable money too?! No brainer. Better than the Garza trade.

The only thing that concerns me are the other minor league pieces included. Sometimes a trade like this sounds sweet up front and then you lose quality youngsters in A ball.

I'd rather dump the youngsters than the more established prospects in the higher levels. Iggy plus A kids is a pretty good bargain for Peavy and a throw in arm in my opinion.

The difference between Lee and Peavy is like night and day. I don't see that this trade will help us much in the playoffs.

Let's hope we have the opportunity to find out.

We've certainly got a surplus of starting pitching now. Great problem to have and I'm sure it'll work itself out.

Yeah, that problem has worked itself out since the dawn of man.

I wonder if Peavy's first start will be Sunday, when Workman would've pitched next. I'll be there, I really hope so.

Peavy was supposed to be pitch tonight/tomorrow so I wouldn't be surprised if they fit him in sooner than that and give some guys some extra rest.

You have to like how they changed direction quickly and pulled the trigger on Peavy when the media wasn't looking.

Not a peep about Iggy being on the market. Trading Iggy opens up the left side of the infield for Middlebrooks and Bogaerts, especially against LHP.

This isn't Jake Peavy of the San Diego Padres, but as long as he is healthy he can beat anyone and at least keep the team in the game, which is what you need in the playoffs.

Is he an ace like Lee? No. But from the (early) sound of it we didn't pay ace price either!

Posted
Again, IF healthy, Peavy is the best pitcher on this staff right now. You're seriously underestimating what he can do when healthy. The problem is keeping him healthy.

So, we traded for 1.5 to 2.5 years of a guy whose problem is the same as Buccholz? And people here are really understanding of Clay.

The difference between the prospects it would have took to get Lee and what we sent to get Peavy is like night and day too. Not to mention the amount of money involved in Lee's contract, vs. what we've committed to Peavy for rest of this year and next.

I just don't get this from the White Sox perspective. They get an OF prospect who's projected to be above average. You don't deal the best pitcher on the market at the deadline for a guy who's good. You better get a cant miss guy

Would you have seriously rather had Lee but given up JBJ and Bogaerts?

I don't disagree with you that Peavy isn't an ace. however, since an ace would have cost Bogaerts and the Sox badly needed a SP upgrade with Buchholz in question, this can't be seen as a terrible deal.

I agree, while all of the dust hasn't settled yet, it's hard to view this trade badly, even if I didn't want Peavy in the first place.

So, we got what we paid for. The question is whether it will help. I have said over and over that I would rather get a big bat.

Jackie Bradley Jr., Garin Cecchini, and Matt Barnes for Giancarlo Stanton coming next.

Jake Peavy for Jose Iglesias is brilliant, if thats all we gave up. Loved Iggy though. I just don't see Peavy as a big upgrade over something we already have like Doubront. But, this must tell you how Cherrington feels about Clay Buchholz. Which can't be a good sign.

I'd call up Bogaerets in the coming days. Let Middlebrooks get his appearences in AAA, see if Bogaerets catches on quick. If not, it buys time for Middlebrooks to tend that sore wrist and get back in the swing of things and call him back up.

Still time. And what big bats are available, really?

I would rather have picked up most of Lee's salary and give JBJ, but not Bogaerts.

I think that Villarreal makes our 40 crunch (Rule 5) dilemma even worse. I still think we needed a reliable reliever, but with Morales/Wilson rehabbing and Britton performing admirably (and Beato not performing too badly) we might be all right. Not great, but all right.

No way in hell that package nets Stanton.

All of the players in the deal haven't shaken out yet. They might get a top prospect from the Tigers, or a couple of promising B-level guys.

The money on Peavy's contract isn't really enough for it to be considered a "salary dump" because he is more or less worth what he is paid.

Would have liked too get lee, but this peavy trade seems good too me. He has a good whip right now, is a career 3.49 era pitcher, and who knows. Maybe being on a contending team can help him elevate his game and he can become a form similar too his cy young year.( I pray he doesnt get injured).

I'd rather hold onto JBJ but the freedom to disagree with people is the great thing about America isn't it?

Trust me, I wanted Lee way more than Peavy, but this seems like a deceptively low price to pay for Peavy, whereas the Phillies wanted an obnoxiously high price for Lee. We will never know all of the pieces on the table for an eventual deal, but we can blame the Philly GM more than anyone for why the Lee deal didn't get done. And instead of surrendering to their demands, we let Philly go f*** themselves.

Buchholz is out until late-August in a best case scenario. We have Brandon Workman in the rotation, and although he has been fantastic he only has 3 starts under his belt. Do you really trust him down the stretch? I wouldn't. Not when Peavy can be had for a bench player.

This deal allows us to move Workman to the pen too. I think Workman could be huge in the pen for us. He could be a long man or a 6-7 inning strikeout guy.

No, I think you are disagreeing with me because you are a racist. ;)

Just like I'd wanted us to do.

Teams weren't interested in paying the full price for Peavy. They were willing to take Peavy's big contract, or give prospects, but not both. With this trade, the White Sox got a top 100 prospect, full relief from the contract and maybe more.
