There is a time value to money. If they buyout ARod for $50 mil instead of the $61 he's owed, ARod would likely net out even if he invested it smartly. And it would make sense for NY to drop his cap number

22% increase in three years would be very shrewd investing, but that's besides the point. I honestly think that Rodriguez believes he is going to play in 2015, if not 2014. The only thing that would keep him away would be for him to be released outright. Rodriguez has all the leverage. The mere threat of him reporting will get him the axe. The Yankees are not going to want him around.

Of course this is all just speculation, and Rodriguez could have an epiphany and just retire, but I doubt it.

There are 3 years left on his contract after 2014. If he took that theoretical $50 mil and invested it at a typical ROR of 8%, he'll have $62.9 mil by the end of 2017, when the contract ends. Why do you think people take the lump sum payout instead of the annuity when they win the lottery? Because the time value of the money is worth way more than the waiting

You can mentally masturbate to this scenario all you want Jacko, but you are severely undervaluing A-Rod's stupidity here. His lawyers will advise him to wait it out until he can get all of his money (so they can make more money) or even worse, convince him to try and play so that they can, again, make more money.

I honestly think there is no way he plays another game in the bigs. Like I said before, he has a $6 mil escalator in there for another 7 homers. Is ARod worth $6 mil as a 40 yr old? He's gonna get cut or bought out

Then he'll get bought out for the entirety of his salary. He has no reason to not demand he be paid in full if he's going to be bought out. The Yankees have zero leverage here.

In my devious mind, I'm thinking the Yankees could force his hand simply by benching him and making him miserable. The only way out for him would be to negotiate a buyout and hook on with another team for a pittance - assuming that he really does want to continue playing baseball.

I'm wondering if they could send him to the minors

don't C the union fighting it LOL

I believe if he's down there long enough he won't count against the Lux tax

which is part of why they never brought igawa back up

This couldn't be funnier. The guy goes on a campaign against the Yankee medical staff, and the guy he's using to help him has been reprimanded by the state of NJ for failing to supervise over the prescription of hormones and steroids. And to top it all off, he hasn't even examined him physically. If you're gonna go on radio supporting ARod, you'd A. Want to be a radiologist, since MRI reading is their field mostly. And B. Want to examine the patient. f*** off and die AFraud

Love to see ARod show up at spring training just to be a side show. This will probably be another problem the $panks pay to go away.

Dan Patrick has said several times that according to his sources A-rod doesn't want to play anymore. I hope he does go away but still want the NYY to screwed. Of course.

A'Rod withdraws his lawsuit.

Alex Rodriguez has accepted his season-long suspension from Major League Baseball, the longest penalty in the sport's history related to performance-enhancing drugs.

Rodriguez withdrew his lawsuits against Major League Baseball, commissioner Bud Selig and the players' association to overturn his season-long suspension on Friday. The notices of dismissal were filed in federal court in Manhattan.

Rodriguez was suspended for 211 games last Aug. 5 for violations of baseball's drug agreement and labour contract, and arbitrator Fredric Horowitz cut the penalty on Jan. 11 to 162 games plus the 2014 post-season.

What a waste of time, money, and energy. I hope he feels good about himself, and I hope it cost him his fortune!!!

Well Mr. T, apparently there was someone somewhere A-Fraud would listen to and decided upon that advice to throw in the towel. I wonder if he had any other "friends" who convinced him earlier to fight this thing to the end. He has succeeded in turning just about every member of the Players Union against him. That has to be quite an accomplishment.

I wouldn't be surprised if ARod wants to shrink away for good. If so, he's got the Yankees right where he wants them for a buyout. They want out and they don't want ARod back. If ARod wants out too, he can negotiate now and get a good return without having to play another game. Ask for $50 mil to go away, then retire and be a professional douche on TMZ or Bravo or whatever.
