It's great to see another Sox win, especially when combined with a division rivals loss. I'm worried about the next two games, especially with Morales originally slated to start on Wednesday. But we do avoid Price/Moore/Hellickson for the series, and I think Cobb is better than Hernandez (Carmona) and Archer so hopefully our offense keeps it up. (At least what at in the beginning and end of the game today)

Thank God the death march is over. Very happy we won this. Usually that f*** face Maddon is walkin' outta' these with that f***ing cheshire cat grin of his.

WMB's swing looks as bad as it does cause he does not know what he should be swinging at nor why. Just because a pitch is a strike does not mean the hitter should be swinging unless there are two strikes and he has to protect. He swings at too many pitcher's pitches many times setting himself up for them. He often swings at pitcher's pitches that are not even strikes, No matter...swinging at a pitcher's pitch unless you have to is a bad idea.

I think it looked like Joyce was saying "that was a fastball" when he was barking at Lackey for hitting him.

It is going to sound like an excuse but I don't wonder that being staked to such a big early lead did not help Lackey as much as we would have liked. It is too early to just rear back and throw strikes. But six runs is a rare 1st inning bounty and enough to feel sort of fat. I can believe it could have thrown Lackey off his game. Then between the ump and Rays dropping their bats dramatically at home plate thinking foul balls where HR's he was sort of defocused I thought.

That whole thing was sorta' weird anyway. Nobody can judge whether a guy has paid his dues and can toss his bat dramatically or not and we have as many if not more guys doing it than the Rays have. The whole thing is sorta' stupid if you ask me.

It took major balls for Bailey to not give up in that inning. Bases loaded nobody out after blowing a 2 run lead...I thought that was impressive. Last years team loses that game, you have to love the fight and scrappiness we have now.

It was a hard hit ball to third base that Longo broke late out of the box so he just got nipped at 1st. It's not like he bowed his neck and worked over the batters. He basically dodged a bullet. His performance yesterday was atrocious on e every level. There was nothing encouraging about it.

I gotta be honest, I packed it in the bottom of the 9th with Mortensen on the mound. When I woke up this morning and checked the scores I had a bad feeling I was going to see 7-6 Rays in 9 innings. When I saw 10-8 Red Sox in 14 it was like holy f***, how did we manage that...a very ugly win, but needless to say that's 100% better than a very ugly loss.

It obviously wasn't a good outing for Bailey. But he was facing the hottest offense in baseball, he was getting squeezed by the umpire, and the double play Longoria hit in to was a weak bouncer. It wasn't hard hit at all.

Epic game, worth staying up for. I wonder what they're going to do about the bullpen....

Well Palodios, Jon Lester could do something about this if he will just go out there tonight and pitch like we expect him to and the way he did earlier in the campaign before he hit the doldrums. Which, BTW, I hope will be temporary. It does not mean five innings and four runs; it means seven or eight innings and two runs. That would leave Breslow, Miller and Mortensen to finish up with all of us having our fingers crossed and hoping for the best.

In fact, Uehara only threw 16 pitches last night and could throw one tonight. Besides, the Rays also used up their pen last night so we're both in the same boat. Lester needs to step up and not throw a barfy game but a very solid one. He's capable of doing that.

You'll never get that from the posters who tend to be constantly negative and hide behind the "realist" veil. The rest of us share your optimism though.
