Yeah but look at the return we got for those guys. We got Andrew Bailey and uh ... uh... pretty much no one.

Mark Melacon gave us some quality innings.

Edit: I couldn't even write that with a straight face.

The good news is that we got Lester going on Wednesday. He's good for a W. Steal one of these first 2 against Griffin or Colon and take 2/3 from the A's.

The better news is that we're hosting the Astros for 4 this weekend. They're giving up 5.40 runs per game, scoring 4.11. We got Buch, Dempster, Lackey, and Doubront going against them. We should sweep, but taking 3/4 would be fine.

I fully expect the Sox to be 18-7 or 17-8 by next Monday

Would be phenomenal!

I think a lot of this could depend on Middlebrooks and Drew, but then again, the pitching and top-half of the lineup have been carrying the Red Sox so far.

well atleast Bailey is getting better. i still miss Brandon Moss though.

Tough series against the A's coming up. Their pitching is better than what they have shown so far this year, thought their hitting, which currently leads the league in runs scored, is going to settle down to lower tier eventually. If we can manage two of three then 17-8 or 18-7 is not out of the question.

the good thing is in the 2 series we lost against Os or the KC Royals we were in it or could have had a chance to win both of those series.. unlike last year once we were down it was just downhill from there.

but to make us better these are the type of games i would like to see win. down by 1 run and 7-9 innings we come out scrambling couple runs. or a Papi blast would be nice too ;)

For what it's worth Brandon Moss was a throw-in in the Manny Ramirez/Jason Bay deal. He had also cleared waivers at least once and then left as a FA to sign a minor league deal with another team so I'm sure we could have had him if we wanted him.

Not to mention Coco Crisp who netted us Ramon Ramirez who was ok for a bit.

And the Reddick deal on paper looked better for the brief period Ryan Sweeney didn't totally suck.

Same with Lowrie and the Melancon deal.

It'd be nice if the pieces we got in return either kept up their success prior to our trade, or had the success they had once they left Boston.

It'd be nice if they could stop blowing scoring opportunities this series.

this.

So frustrating this last series where they had a dozen of opportunities to cashed in but fail.

Lavarnway is quietly hitting .297/.426/432 in AAA with 2 doubles and a HR in 10 games so far.

Don't sleep on him.

How long should we keep Lavarnway, who has hit at every level of baseball he was given a fair shot at, in the minors if Salty continues to struggle? I think that's a fair question.

In spite of his ugly K numbers Salty is not doing that bad. His OPS of .755 is about average for a catcher. And his Catcher ERA is 2.85.

i hear ya. and Lowrie never stayed healthy with us. but is hitting of the charts right now.

Brandon Moss is the Nava type player cashing in because he is given an oppurtunity.

Reddick is the only guy i missed last season. again its part of the business and i understand that but would hate to see these 3 guys do well against us. anybody but us and i would be happy.

Salty is an extremely frustrating player, but yeah, I agree. He gets hated on a little too much sometimes.

Amazing how sliding Vic back in there makes the whole lineup look significantly better.

Vic needs to get uniform #50 so we can start calling him Hawaii 5-0.

This is the best Lup on paper you can put on the field. Want to see this Lup playing everyday as possible.

Looking forward to these games with Oakland. Interested to see how Felix does for one thing. There is always something interesting to grab your attention and hold your interest in these games this year. Almost does not matter what the record is...it does matter but there is so much to look at and think about with this team from a pure baseball perspective. We have already had some of the best games win or lose that I have seen in at least three-four maybe five years.

I don't know if they will hold people's attention if things start going the wrong way. I think they will still be an interesting team for real baseball fans.
