Is there any particular reason for the 6:35 pm starting time tonight and tomorrow?
Nevermind.

So what's with the Red Sox start times?

April 22, 2013 04:53 PM

By Peter Abraham, Globe Staff

The Red Sox are playing at 6:35 p.m. the next two days and again on Thursday. That's 35 minutes earlier than the usual start time for night games.

To find out why that is, we asked Sox chief operating officer Sam Kennedy. He said the team hopes the earlier start times will make it easier for people to bring their kids to games. The Sox also thought it would help make the chilly spring weather a little more tolerable.

Unofficially, this is also related to the Sox having 17 home games this month after a 69-93 season. Many of those games are against teams that aren't considered good draws (Kansas City, Oakland, Houston).

The early start times could entice a few more fans to midweek games. Unlike previous years, when all the Sox had to do was open the gates, some creativity is needed.

Its definitely not on ESPN, they are broadcasting Rays/Yankees

Not sure about MLB Network.

Rays need to win some games to keep the Yankees in check.

Kevin Youkilis scratched from the Yankees' lineup. Lyle Overbay is in tonight at 1B.

The early start does not seem to be encouraging more ticket sales. It does seem to be encouraging more late arrivals.

Not on either, sorry.

No big deal, I'll just stream it online for free.

Just wanted to have it on the tv so I don't have to use my computer... First world problems.

Off topic, but Webster has been all over the local news since last night. He's from my area, so they are going nuts over him having a quality start last night.

The cold is not as bad as they have had it. It is unseasonable but not intolerable.

I doubt the guys from Oakland are used to that kind of temperature though.

Kind of off topic, but this is my first year with MLB TV and I really like it. Thanks to all who recommended it in the off-season.

Glad you like it. I had a feeling you would like it, cause it works out pretty well for you(school and work).

It's like 50 in Maryland, I hate this cold weather. It's almost MAY, it shouldn't be this cold.

I know it. I stay cold anyway and it's been one of those days that I can't get warm.

So far, the pitcher's seem warm and the bats seem cold, for both sides.
