I don't think comparing Dempster to Beckett makes any sense. Dempster was not brought here to replace Beckett. They are two different pitchers and Dempster hit FA at a point when pitchers could get that kinda' money on a relatively short term deal.

 

Dempster is right now pitching just good enough to lose. It is not a coincidence that if the score stays the same through 9, Dempster will have recorded his 2nd lose against no wins while Buch and Lester have 7 wins and one no decision in a game eventually won by the Sox.

 

Again I think the scouting reports have been just about dead on for Dempster. He was not a bad acquisition for the Sox. We might be putting too much on him cause we did not bring in anybody else to the rotation with him. That is not his fault. He has been just about as advertised if not a little better than that.

Pedroia got screwed because the HP ump is an arrogant jerk and didn't like that Pedey started to 1b before he called the pitch.

He hasn't shown any power this season. SLG .300 or so right now. Maybe that dive to 1B is hurting his hand. Kinda stupid if you think about it, they were up 5 runs at the time.

The last couple of years they have had good quality live arms in the pen but no starters. Now, they have some guys to put up some good starts.

And with that catcher they've got, they've got good defense up the middle and solid at first and third as well.

 

This team's going to be tough to score on all year.

I hate the dive to first base, especially by players that have had hand problems.
