Dempster deserves to still be in this game. Remember they have another to play later today and they are behind in this one. If he gets into trouble he will likely be out of this game quickly though

I'd say that 7 innings 4ER from our starter isn't too bad and should normally be good enough for our offense. We just need one decent inning in the remaining 3.

and that is a very accurate reflection of where he is as a pitcher. He has got to stay away from the belt line with his pitches. On days when he cannot, get out the bandaids for him. On days when he can, get out the bandaids for the other guys. This day is sort of down the middle as we have seen both sides of Dempster today.

This offense been pretty awful outside of blowing up Cleveland pitching. Pitching has done most of the winning.

Overpaid at $13 mil for a 35 yo pitcher. 4 runs in 6 innings is not going to win a lot of games against better pitching.

That's because you don't know what you're talking about. Beckett's making a lot more money, and he's a 4.5 ERA pitcher in the NL WEST right now. Not to mention all of the drama.

It was 4 runs in 7 innings. (Plus if our offense was worth it's weight that shouldn't be a problem to match)

 

Plus, to my knowledge, Dempster doesn't have the caustic/toxic personality Beckett did. In addition, while I didn't agree with the deal at first, the deal is a relatively short term one with money we had growing on trees at the time. If the money wasn't spent on Dempster, would it have been spent somewhere better or just lining the owners pockets? We're not on the hook for too much and it won't effect the future rotation for when young guys come in.

 

It's not the greatest signing but I doubt it'll be what ruins a team that had the 2012 the Sox did.
