Twitter destroying Matt Kemp for giving $1K to Oklahoma relief for every HR he hits until the All Star Break (he has 2 so far this season), and rightly so. Just give a flat donation right now, when the money is needed most. Also, cutting it off at the ASG just makes him look extra cheap.

I agree. I don't think one can win with stupid people, especially in the days of modern social media. Yeah, I think Kemp's donation plan is a bit weird but as far as I've known he's considered a classy individual and the fact that he's going out of his way to donate anything to a cause he knows first hand is newsworthy...as a positive.

 

The people criticizing him should have their accounts deactivated imo. Their opinions aren't worth the cyberspace it takes to broadcast them.

I regularly donate to Red Cross, as well as some specific disaster relief funds.

 

I really don't think people would have complained if Kemp donated nothing, though someone would undoubtedly bring up the Oklahoma connection and knock it, but sorry, when you make $20million a year and restrict your donation to $1K per HR (AND only to the ASG), when you've only hit 2 so far....that doesn't look so charitable. I'm not saying he has to match Durant, but doing it this way makes him come across as super cheap and perhaps not cognizant of the pressing need for funds right now.

First off, Durant is donating through a foundation, not out of pocket. Second, Kemp is not obligated to donate, and you don't know if this is a publicity stunt aimed at having other ballplayers mimic his actions. Dude's known in the community for his big heart and charitable actions, so he may be (and is probably doing) much more to help the community.

 

Behavior like this is what kills the good in people, but you're entitled to your opinion.
