Cherrington Huge Mistake not Getting J. Upton via trade and extension

Dojji, FA will play at the North Pole for the money! This notion of "FA have to like the place" is pure nonsense. Need to go north of 100 million plus before a guy will even consider turning down a place "he doesn't like".

What is made up, is your arbitrary ass-pull number of 5 years 17M. You have no idea what kind of extension he was looking for, or if he was even looking for an extension.

A guy who has three years of control isn't turning down an 85 million dollar extension that matches the base of Matt Holdiay, you mental midget.

I assume you will be banned soon, but you actually did make up the years and dollar figures. They may represent a comp with Holliday, but you did make up the numbers.

The Sox have Bradley and Brentz coming up. They have Victorino signed for three years. They realize that long term contracts can tie up payroll in a bad way when injuries and ineffectiveness happen.

Not worth the Sox unloading top prospects out of the system.

The Braves sent garbage, not top prospects. Prado was a guy they wanted to get rid of because he was becoming a FA, just like the Red Sox need to get rid of Ellsbury.

How do you figure? Please enlighten us with your knowledge of the Atlanta farm system.

Looks like since the "soft one" (softlaw) got banned from the BDC red sox forum for the hundredth time hes going to spew his garbage here. For those of you that dont know, this guy got banned recently for personal attacks, racial and homophobic statements. Hes had a dozen screen names in the last year or 2 over there.

Its quite entertaining if you dont take him seriously, but if your able to get under his thin skin you can easily get him to say something that will surely get him banned. Last year it was the same exact routine but instead of Upton it was with Matt Kemp before he signed the extension.

As far as J. Upton, Im glad that BC wasnt at all interested in him. Hes been nothing more than erratic and inconsistent since coming to MLB. Besides that, I believe Ben was looking for more character guys, which Upton isnt. Martin Prado is a better character person and besides power numbers, has very comparable numbers to Upton. Delgato is a legit pitching prospect.

And dont bother responding to me oh soft one, cause I wont dignify your comments with a reply...silly clown :harhar:

One of these mornings, Lucchino will wake up and his first thought will be "why the hell don't we trade for Stanton?" He's worth whatever it takes to get him. OK. DeLa Rosa hands off. Could be another Pedro.

Maybe Bradley, too, since we don't want to pay Ellsbury what Boras will want. But everybody else is available, including Bogaarts, Barnes, etc.

The point is, Stanton is another Rice. He has MVP written all over him. A younger, cheaper Hamilton with no side issues.

You get your errand boy Cherington on this, and tell him no Stanton, no GM job next year. No screwing around while somebody else gets him.

No one is off the table for Stanton. You empty the farm to get a guy like him. The only player that we might regret losing would be Bogaerts.

Giving out $100 mil+ contracts is what got us into the trouble that BC just got us out of with the LA deal.

Is someone discussing $100 million contracts. Plus, it was $100 million contracts to the wrong players that got us in trouble.

The OP is proposing an 85 million extension for J Upton so it would be a $100 million+ contract.

AGon was more of a sure thing than Upton and he bombed here. Until he can put together a few good years in a row, he's not worth an extension.

If a guy isn't comfortable or happy in the place he is playing are you really going to get the best production out of him. To me when J-Upton put the Sox on a list of no-trade locations it was him saying he is fearful of what could happen when he fails to live up to his potential. FO is wise to not touch this guy and the boat load of $$$$ he would ask for.

The contract that helped build the championship was manny's $160 million contract. The problem more recently is that the bumbling Theo fanned on almost every big ticket acquisition. He picked the wrong guys.

A few quick points (most of which had already been made but I'll at least highlight who I agree with)

1. Boston was on Justin Upton's no trade list. We couldn't get him if we wanted him. I'd like to think that we wanted him, as I'd sure want Justin Upton on our team, and for the price the Braves paid I'd make that trade.

2. I think the Braves gave up a "meh" package for Upton. It's not bad, but it's miles apart from the package Seattle would have given them. Unforunately for them, Seattle was also on Justin Upton's no trade list. The Braves gave up Martin Prado who is a good ML 3B, and a few prospects such as SP Randall Delgado and Ahmed, SS prospect Spruill, and maybe even a 1B prospect in Drury. Don't forget that the Diamondbacks also sent 3B Chris Johnson in the deal. The Braves definitely won the deal.

3. In my opinion Arizona departed with both Trevor Bauer and Justin Upton for clearly less than market value. I agree that personality and character appear to have a high value in Arizona.

4. Arizona has been targeting Detroit's Rick Porcello for a while, and it's been postured that one of the SS prospects (one was acquired in both the Bauer and Upton deals) could be sent with a pitching prospect to Detroit for Porcello. Either way, true or not, I don't think Arizona is done.

The Red Sox right now are giving no one 5 year contracts for big money. That was pretty clear in the pre-season signings.

Upton's poor numbers on the road are a flag. He's young and talented. The Braves have one brother--they figure it's a good gamble to get the other. I just hope they both have a positive influence on the team.

Like i've said, the Sox should go after Stanton--get him at all costs--and put him in LF for the next 10 years. He is Williams, Rice, Yaz, Manny... the big hitter in LF they've always had--and now lack. They had him briefly in Bay--for one year.

I'm still not convinced Henry isn't setting this team up for sale in the next year or two. Stanton wouldn't hurt--Harrington signed Manny when he put the team up for sale--to build up his assets.

I've been a Red Sox fans since 1967, but I call it like I see it. They need to fire Cherrington for incompetence. This is, at best, a bubble playoff team that will not be a title contender if it does barely make the playoffs, which is dubious. And when the payroll is over 150 million and just making the playoffs is dubious, time to clean out the InEpstein and Cherry stalls and get someone like Duquette who knows what he's doing.

They most certainly are a bubble playoff team, and an expensive one at that. The point is, it takes a long time to clean up the s*** show that happened at we're probably lucky that we were able to get rid of the players we did to the Dodgers in the first place.

Tossing money and prospects at every guy the MLB network calls good isn't really the answer though either.

Just trying to earn my mental midget title right now. Emmz already said she was Larry so I guess I'll settle for one of Larry's cronies.

Ben, this is Tom. Make sure that the new guys look good for tv. We're thinking about revamping Sox Appeal, Pocket Change and whatever that s***** Red Sox Cribs show was called. Oh, and I need you to swing by some horrible bars later for filming of Dirty Water TV.

Will do, Mr. Wener. Do you want me to bring Jacoby along and have him trim his eyebrows like last time to help ratings with the female population?

Idk, research says he may be too ethnic for the ladies living in Boston. Maybe have Kalish do some one arm pushups near famous Boston landmarks with Nava, Ross and some other schlep.

What kind of shoes is that Hawaiian guy wearing these days?

I do not understand the fascination with Justin Upton. He was never coming to Boston in the first place, and even if he was, he's NOT THAT GOOD. Not horrible by any stretch, but not a guy who makes or breaks a franchise.

But he is young and has some superstar type potential. I would take him over Victorino ANY DAY. even with giving up prospects for him.

.

We're not even through January and we already have the understatement of the year. Getting them to take Crawford and Beckett was an astounding piece of good fortune - we ran into a bunch of drunken sailors determined to throw money around with absolutely no common sense at just the right time.

I am just gonna sit back and wait until the Dodgers' spending blows up in their faces, and then I am going to eat popcorn and lol at their stupidity.

Vibram five fingers. I wonder if they'll be interested in a marketing deal featuring him. I haven't had much luck selling bricks and need to try something new, sir.

A tarde for Giancarlo Stanton was, is, and will for some years remain, a pipe dream.

Bradley, Barnes, and De la Rosa get the deal moved past the "NO" stage. Subbing in Bogaerts for one of the three might get a "Yes". I just doubt the sox would be willing to do that. If you got Stanton, though, you'd be set at your #3 spot for the next 10 yrs, assuming you sign him to a big money extension. If he played in the Fens, he'd hit 40+HRs annually

Flip flops. Put that Samoan in flippies during ST. They cost pennies to make and we can sell them to these rubes for $20.
