Sorry Pal, he's right. Schill had a 148 ERA+ that year, Lester's never really been all that close to that. Schilling was THE man that year. No one else came close.

Buchholz had an ERA+ of 187 in 2010.

Lester had ERA+ of 144 in 2008, 136 in 2009 and 134 in 2010. I think you'll have to admit that 144 is pretty close to 148.

Lester and Buchholz do not hold a candle to Pedro and Schilling, but I do believe they can compete with their 2004 stats. I don't think that is completely unreasonable.
As I said earlier, I think the biggest accomplishment of the 2004 staff was that all 5 guys took all of their starts, and after July, they almost always went 6+ innings. That was the huge factor in the end of season run. We haven't had 5 starters take all of their starts since 2004. It's a hard thing to do. If this group (2013) makes all of its starts, the team will be successful, even if the overall pitching is mediocre. It is the reason why I wanted the Sox to get one more starter -- a 200 inning guy. No aces were available, so it was my theory to build an inning eating rotation of 5 that would perform in a mediocre fashion. The extended innings would keep the strengthened bull pen fresh, and I believe that it would have been a winning formula. This group may achieve that, but with a post-op Lackey and an out of shape Doubront, we could be dipping into the pen too early during the year.

The other difference between this years rotation and the 2004 rotation is that the 2004 rotation had 2 guys that were capable of absolutely shutting down the other offense. Pedro and Schilling were star pitchers with that capability of giving you the dominating game when it was need most. Both of those guys went over 200 innings with more than 200 k's. They were big time horses.

Ofcourse, the durability of that rotation carried them that year. I've said it in another thread, but replacing Dice-k with Lackey will probably be a huge help to the bullpen. Dice-k averaged 5.30 innings from 2009-2012. In 2010, Lackey averaged 6.50 innings, in his career 6.38. Even in his disaster season in 2011 he averaged 5.73 innings per game.

You children are now comparing 2004's rotation to a rotation that's yet to pitch an inning? Sure, argue about that for another week or two. Quality discussion per usual here.

It's always nice when people come around and make me look like less of a dbag.

Pretty hard to be less mature than a guy whose screen name is 'Cano in Dodger Blue'.

We really don't know what we have yet. Folks are talking about Lackey like we can rely on him more than the others at this point because that is just about true. We don't know how well Lackey will pitch. However we are sure he will take the ball every time and will not give in to anything until they finally drag him off the mound kicking and screaming.

Will Buch be able to take the ball every time his ticket comes up in the rotation? Not at all sure. Will Lester? More likely but for how many innings each start. Will Dempster? Very likely and if the scouting reports are accurate with good success against the lower tier teams and not so good against the upper tier teams.

Felix has managed to really piss me off. This isn't the old days of turning into a fat turd in the off season, and using ST to get back into shape. ST is now the place where you earn your spot on the roster....not the place to get back in shape again. I almost wonder if this is Felix telling us all that he knows he has no options left either....more or less forcing the Sox hand. I am not happy!

The whole question of innings could be more interesting to watch this year. Tito allowed starters to work through early jams. However for the most part he had teams that could come back later in games.....that is until 2011 when they laid down like dogs from the 7th on. I will skip over V as I would prefer not to try to delve into the mind of a madman. Farrell does not really have an offensive juggernaut. He may believe he has to be faster on the draw with the hook.

You're a sad, sad person.

Would I be cooler if I pretended to be a doctor on the internet? Oh please help me be cool like you!

In all fairness, even if he is a pretend doctor, his diagnosis on players is spot-on 95% of the time.

Lol. I don't need to pretend, unlike the guy who's on his 4th SN in 4 days. I'm pretty sure my prior post about you is accurate. Have you spent any time in jail?

Why would I have spent any time in jail doogie howser?

P.S. - Emptying bedpans does not make you a doctor.

If being banned on multiple screen names on this web site makes you a low life, then what does that make you Mr. Rivernator? Oh, but you play by different rules where you're a doctor and Austin Romine is the next Russell Martin in his prime.

I'm just wondering how far down the path of delinquency you have gone. I fully expect that you'll end up a heroine addict with no life skills and die alone on the street

Having multiple screen names makes someone delinquent now, does it Mr. Rivernator? That explains why you gave such detailed descriptions of what it's like to be a junkie.

First of all, I was banned for my actions once, I was contrite about it and worked it out. You have had a dozen screen names with 4 in 4 days and email a pic of someone who's been scalped to everyone here without regard for the injured or the members here. Hardly similar. Second, your lack of responsibility reminds me of the addicts I see on a daily basis. My guess is you still live with mommy? Will anyone miss you when you mainline a little too much dope? My guess is no one

You have some serious personal issues you need to work out if you're hoping someone OD's and dies because you're upset with what they said on an internet forum. That goes well beyond the difference in how many screen names I got banned on versus how many screen names you've gotten banned on.

Go ahead, take another 15 minutes to try to rationalize that one.

I never said I wished for it. Just predicted it.

I think it's pretty clear by the context and what you said that you were enjoying the idea of me becoming a drug addict, living with my mother and ODing. Have you ever considered seeing a psychiatrist? Those are some seriously messed up fantasies.

"My path" of making multiple screen names and getting banned on them... just like you? Either that displays some kind of a major lack of responsibility on both of our parts and makes us both likely to become junkies who live with their parents, or you're making one of your famous leaps of logic and you're simply wishing those things on me, in which case you have some serious emotional issues.

Pick your poison.

Jackoff, you're not the brightest nurse on the floor. Next time you try to claim someone's behavior makes them a pathetic person destined to die of a heroine overdose, you might want to take a second to think whether or not it's public knowledge that you've engaged in the same behavior. Your squeamish backtracking is comical though, so thanks for that.

Why should anyone believe that you're a doctor when you can't even be honest about how many times you've been banned on this site? Does the screen name bbdoc ring any bells?

Be nice to the Doc. Maybe he can help you get the medication that you need.

Don't forget your heart meds, wouldn't want you to have a stroke straining to come up with you ever so witty banter.
The witty banter comes easy to me-- no strain at all, kind of like the way it is effortless for you to be a douchebag.
