He went from being the so called smartest hitter in baseball to one of the dumbest.

Exactly. He is obviously valuable in the pen, not as a starter.

You are finally getting it.

And you still aren't.

The only thing they did was thought "this guy doesn't have the balls to be a closer. He wants to start. He has dominant stuff. If it translates to a SP role, he could be a 2nd-3rd starter. (which has more value than a setup guy)"

They never said "let's go out and actively hurt Bard" in a comic evil genius voice.

If they knew Bard would basically lose 8mph on his FB, they wouldn't have moved him.

Everyone on here wanted a FA SP. No one expected the 4-5 would be Dubs AND Bard. Trying to make Bard a SP wasn't the mistake. The mistake was not signing Buehrle or some else.

That was a nice play all around there....I think Nava might have lost that ball just a bit as he, ball and wall got close together but he recovered nicely. Ding dong trotting down the first base line got what he deserved outta' that.

Yes' date=' because they actively tried to ruin Bard.[/quote']

They stood by passively and watched it happen. No one said it was intentional. It was stupid, yes, but not intentional.

On the bright side, Morales is pitching very well today. 3.1 scoreless innings. The Red Sox also have a day off tomorrow, so if they throw most of the pen out there today, they can still get a rest for the next series.

Nice one-hitter from Bard today. I'd love to see him out of the rotation' date=' but Matsuzaka isn't ready and nobody else is enticing.[/quote']

From what I understand, DiceK is ready.

Funny game baseball....Bard totally blows up....probably creating an improbable line cause never should have even gotten outta' the 1st inning....Morales who blows up regularly in relief comes in with all pressure released as Bard has just about removed any pressure from the next guy coming in...."just get us some outs please Mr Morales" and the guy pitches pretty close to lights out for his stint. One more inning for Morales might really be pushin' it though.

Depends how you define "ready" I guess. He was okay in his last rehab start so maybe it's worth a shot soon.

He's allowed 1 ER in his last 10.1 IP (2 outings). He's not very efficient, but he's probably a better option than Bard right now.

The Red Sox and Bobby V have been saying Dice-k isn't ready. If he can throw 6+ innings in Pawtucket, I don't understand why can't throw them in the majors.

On another note, what happened to Cook? He made that one start, got hurt, and hasn't played anywhere, even for rehab.

Fair enough. Or we could call up Mark Prior for some 2003 magic (partially kidding, though it would be cool to see him pitch again).

Bard's wildness is starting to put our own guys in danger too.

I don't know but I tend to put that on V more than the pitchers. There has been several instances now where our pitchers have been crazy wild and V still leaves them out there while they are filling hospital beds.

I was just thinking the same thing - This is from ESPN Fantasy News.

Cook (knee) threw a bullpen session Thursday, the Red Sox' official site reports.

Spin: If he comes out of the session without a problem, the Red Sox will put him on a pitching program, according to manager Bobby Valentine.

Damn would have loved to see Hutchinson pay for hitting Youk. He has had Youk's number the whole game and hits him....stupid....would have loved to see Youk stomp on home plate for that one.

Punto bomb.

Punto bumm...

On the subject of DiceK: he can get more ready at Fenway Park. We can no longer afford Daniel Bard in the rotation. We will still need another SP to replace Doubront when he reaches his innings limit, and I don't really want to see Cook in that role. Someone of higher quality perhaps.
