I will tell you exactly what's going on right now:

4/10/2012: Crawford visits Boston to have elbow examined for soreness. MRI performed. No damage noted. Plan of action - Rest.

4/23/2012: Crawford still experiencing soreness. Revisits Boston to have elbow checked up. Diagnosis the same. More rest, nothing major. No damage noted.

4/24/2012: Due to continuation of discomfort in elbow beyond expectation, Crawford desires second opinion to confirm no damage or serious injury prior to starting throwing regimen.

I mean, BobbyV said yesterday that Crawford would be playing if it was a big game.

Hopefully you are right. I just can't imagine if this team has a chronic $20M yearly player for the next 6 year on the DL. Crawford makes up 1/8 of the team payroll.

I'm laughing at the people who wanted to sign this guy.

But he's a "game-changer!". It was obvious from the beginning Crawford was a dumb investment. Everyone could see it except LL and his stubborn ********.

I know your schtick is being positive and all, but this whole Crawford elbow issue sounds a lot more serious than a couple days' rest. You're operating on all sorts of assumptions here with absolutely no information to back it up.

You could be right, but most likely you aren't.

i was happy to see Crawford in our uniform cuz i was tired of his base stealing ....didnt know how bad it backfired.

Posted
Did he say that in an article?

The only thing I saw him say was that Crawford will miss significant time via twitter.

But what is the definition of "significant"? To me, if he's back on June 1, that is missing 33% of the season and is definitely significant.

His elbow was bothering him in Feb. "Minor injuries" do not take two months to heal.

I made a comment about that topic a while back. They got CC because the FO hated seeing him make fools of the Sox by getting so many steals per game. ...so was their concern better with us than against us?

They already had just gotten a big hitter with AGON. Jh said he did disagree with the CC hiring. Somethimes things backfire when you do them for the wrong reason.

Crawforsd did look great against the Red Sox. Maybe we made him look better than he really is.

When I said that this didn't smell well was because we all knew about the wrist thing, but suddenly this elbow thing appeared and I just realized that the sore began in Feb and it was under the radar even for V.

We do not have a solid backup information about this but the way the information has been managed is not a good sign IMO. We'll see.

Management of this type of information is not a strength of the organization.

Doubtful. They probably got him because they thought his speed would remain intact but his power production would increase a la Johnny Damon. Your reasoning is not sound. You don't spend 100+ million on a player because he makes you look bad.

If that was the case, Ted Lilly would be a Red Sox right now.

some terrible signings in the recent years

Lugo

Lackey

Carl Crawford

Renteria

Dice-k

all under Theo

like someone else just said it on another thread. Drew Signing looks pretty darn good when you look at these clowns.

. . . And Theo beat it out of town before his mismanaged budget blew up in his face.

one injury/down-season doesn't make CC a bust or a poor investment.

I wonder what all the people will say if & when CC returns to +7WAR... 45+ SB... .305 BA I mean, c'mon... give the man a break, lets see if all his talent ACTUALLY evaporated or if he'll be his TB self.

I would think that any organization hires a player so that they can use his skills for the team rather than against said team.

But the removal of that player's skills from another team so it doesn't harm yours has to be a far-behind second to what you think that player can bring to the table for your team.

In other words, what he could do for the Red Sox had to be far more important than what he did against them.

He was still one of the better players in the league when we signed him and had just come off arguably his best year. He'll turn it around when he comes back. He might not be 2010 productive, but I'll take 2006-2009.

What he or any player can do for the RS is exactly what he did against them

That's kind of the problem. Was he going to be able to replicate his Tampa performance playing half his games in a stadium that reduced his middling power and on-base ability? Crawford always tormented the Sox a lot more at home than in Fenway, and with good reason. He's a career .715 OPS hitter at Fenway, significantly lower than his .804 OPS at Tropicana.

I will say that this is a seven year deal for a player that makes money in large part with his speed/legs. There is no guarantee that he turns into Johnny Damon or any part of Johnny Damon later in his career.

CC has already blown away year one of his overblown contract playing like a September call up (that is eventually sent back down) and will now have blown away maybe as much as a third of this season before he even lifts a bat. So that leaves him with 4 2/3 years the back end of which he will clearly not be as speedy as he is today with no guarantees what so ever that he will enjoy an associated increase in power.

If he comes back to form which will take a bit of time best case, I will be saying that with the 4 2/3 years he has left at the end of the day he might return $70-85M worth of value against his $142M contact while painting the Sox into an ugly corner with regard to any chance that they might have to sign Ells when he gets to free agency. Boras has got the CC contract to look at and shove right down the Sox throats when the time comes. So that is what I will be saying! How does sound...does that sound appealing? Does that sound like something you would like to repeat?

Last seasons pedestrian .724 actually raised his career OPS at Fenway.. :thumbdown

Looks like Carl Crawford will miss three months. Sox issuing press release shortly on details.

Wow. Just wow. Ellsbury will be back before Crawford.

We're going to have a monster team in July, August, and September with Bard back to the pen by then, Ellsbury back, Crawford back, Bailey back...

Not sure if this means Crawford misses a total of 3 months (i.e. April, May, June) or if he misses 3 additional months from today (May, June, July).

Either way, this blows.

Well that is just great....best case now is that he does not lift a bat till June or maybe July. That means he has 4.5 years left...max to put up enough numbers to make up for this disaster of a contract.

I am counting the years before the Cubs contact the league office asking the Sox for compensation....THE OTHER WAY.....for Theo.

Fortunately, Ellsbury and likely Kalish will both be back around June or July, although Kalish will need some time in AAA before he gets up. Kalish said via twitter that it won't be too much longer until he is ready to get in a game. If he is in a game by mid to late May, he could be with the Sox by early July or the ASB.

The Sox are about to issue a statement. Crawford saw Dr. Andrews today.

I'm very confused, though. 3 months isn't nearly long enough to recover from surgery. So if it's something that doesn't require surgery, what could it be that would require 2.5 - 3 months of rest?

My concern is how they are going to comeback....

Hopefully that by then we are still in the race.

Watch...in a new strategy designed to mitigate any possible chance that the Sox can get any valuable time out of these players upon return, the Yankess acquire the rights to........Thomas!!!! .....yes folks, the assassin himself.

In related news Ells and Kalish refuse to make any plate appearances when Thomas is called upon by his new team to pitch. Yanks counter claiming to have moved Thomas to the rotation.

Nick Cafardo on twitter said "Looks like Crawford will miss 3 months", and now a lot of beat writers (Pete Abe, Scott Lauber, Cafardo) are saying that Crawford saw Dr. Andrews today and that they are going to issue a statement shortly.
