So 35 AB is sufficient to get your timing down????

BP is not real-time pitching.

Whatever.

I was not speaking about BP i was speaking about real-time pitching in a game!.

I don't believe 35 ab's is bad especially if he is kiiling it in his rehab assignment.

I don't mean to be argumentative. I just suspect that it takes a player more than 35 AB to get his timing down. But I don't know.

Crawford making progress in Florida

Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff April 21, 2012 01:56 PM

Carl Crawford was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk in an extended spring training game earlier today. He was the DH.

He will return to Boston in the next few days to have his strained left elbow checked. If cleared, he could start a throwing program.

I don't know why he didn't do well last year...was it physical and emotional? But if there was indeed an emotional component to his problems in Boston, I can't imagine the pressure he will be under. Too many people are planning for things to get better when DiceK and Crawford are well.

Who cares if it was mental, physical, psychological, physiological, psychosocial, emotional, etc.? The important thing is that he gets healthy and is ready to contribute and have a positive impact this season. He knows psychologically that he cannot do much worse than last year. He will be fine and will help this team win games. The important thing is staying healthy.

So the mental aspect :rolleyes:nothing to do with a player's success? Never heard that before.

Did I say that the mental aspect has nothing to do with a player's success? Quote me and point out to me where I specifically said that. All I am saying that who gives a flying f*ck what the problem was last season? It is a new year and once he returns he will have a new mentality and outlook on this season. He played like s*** last year. He knows he cannot do much worse, so that will only help him this year.

So Carl has communicated all this to you? Otherwise how do you know what he "knows" and how he will be coming back?

It is common sense. When a player played horrible one year and played good to excellent in all years prior to that year, then it is obvious that the player cannot do much worse than the year that he played horrible. You cannot sit their and tell me that you do not think Crawford does not think that he will perform worse than he did last year. I do not know Crawford from a personal standpoint. However, I do live in Fort Myers and have seen Crawford progress and have talked to several people that do know him personally. Everyone I have talked to has told me that he is looking good and is making good progress. Several people have told me that his mentality and approach to the game this year is much better than it was last year. I do know one of the scouts for the Red Sox Baseball Operations and he has told me a lot of information regarding Crawford. I cannot tell you that Crawford directly told me that his mentality has changed this season, but I can tell you that indirectly I do know his mentality has changed this season.

Who gives a s*** for crying out loud. Lets assume this offense is the best element of the game this team plays. That one is not hard to swallow is it? Their pitching is so-so at best and their defense is porous. Tell me where you would rank this offense in this league with both CC and Ells in the lineup?

First...wrong

Second...wrong

third....maybe

fourth...more than likely

fifth....possible

So when the best you have is an element that puts you about third at best and fourth more than likely and you are middling at best if not poor in the most important element...pitching and weak defensively to be honest we are just kidding ourselves. Thank you lucky stars there are two WC teams this year cause that is our only shot at anything that relates to a post season this year.

Bobby V: Crawford's elbow remains a concern. Was checked in Boston today. Valentine sez "still gathering information"

"Still gathering information"

Reminds me of the movie Alien where Sigourney Weaver in an effort to understand what this Alien is and how to deal with it asks the ships Science officer Ash "anything from Mother" "the nickname for ships computer". Ash responds "We are still collating".

That did not work out well as I remember it.

Curious. Wonder if this was just a follow up to his first trip to see if there has been any improvement.

I would say if there was any ligament damage, he would have been completely shut down the first time.

May just DH for an extra week or something, but I don't think this is much of a set back. It only takes 2-3 games for him to be in game shape defensively.

Sounds like he could be returning for mothers day. I hope he is eating right, tons of veggies/protein & no f***in gluten -- the GI on gluten is so high it slows /reduces the healing process of everything in the human body.

C'mon Carl!

BP is not real-time pitching.

Whatever.

BP meaning bullpen sessions, not batting practice. He's been getting his timing down that way when pitchers were throwing their pens.

Crawford getting a 2nd opinion on his elbow, but according to Silverman of the Boston Herald, the Red Sox "expect/hope it's just to confirm that there it is nothing serious".

Valentine said that Crawford is doing so well with his return from wrist surgery that he doesn't want to have another setback, and thus is getting a 2nd opinion to make sure there's nothing serious going on.

Sounds a lot like Beckett's thumb. Just getting peace of mind so he can go out there and go all out without having that in the back of his mind.

“He’s feeling so good with his hitting and his wrist right now that he doesn’t want to have any setbacks,” Valentine said. “I think he might even get somebody else to confirm that it is what we think it is, which is just a little soreness.”

Asked if he fears the elbow trouble is serious, Valentine reiterated something he said before the game, namely that he’s always concerned about an injured player.

“It’s always serious, the way I look at it,” Valentine said. “But it doesn’t seem major.”

Boston Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford is going to see Dr. James Andrews to have the soreness in his left elbow checked out, a source told ESPN The Magazine senior baseball writer Buster Olney.

Crawford is out indefinitely and not close to returning to action, the source said.

Tuesday, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said Crawford would seek a second opinion on the elbow.

Crawford, who also had offseason wrist surgery, has taken some at-bats but has not played the field in extended spring training games. No timetable has been set for when he can resume throwing.

Crawford had returned to Florida on Tuesday night, where he has been rehabbing, Valentine said, after being examined in Boston earlier in the day.

Sounds like at least June. How did he injure the elbow?

Per Gordon Edes: Cherington says "likely" Crawford to see Dr James Andrews. Elbow "improving but still sore"

All reports that I've read says that the Sox are getting the 2nd opinion to confirm there is nothing serious. I think it's almost an exact replica of the Beckett thumb issue.

I still think he's an early to mid-May return.

I agree that they are pampered, but this is also their livelihood and getting a peace of mind about a potential injury, especially after coming off his wrist surgery, seems acceptable. I would say it's just a little strain that needs some down time. It doesn't hurt when he swings, but it hurts when he throws. So I don't think it is anything serious.

Or just treat a player you're paying 100M+ like garbage and rush him back. Back in the day, losing your LF was aheadache, now it f's up the entire operation as there is too much money tied up with CC.

If the Red Sox are comfortable with running him out there to play, he shoild be okay with that. The team is the party with the major interest in CC staying healthy and on the field. If his elbow blows up, the Sox have to pay him. They have a huge interest in him being healthy. If he can play, he should be playing. He is getting overpaid to do it.

Do not be surprised if tomo the issue is his knee or finger or whatever.... Jeez!

Gotta wonder what the locker room was like for the guy last year considering how much money he was making and how not worth the money he performed.

I hope he hurries the hell up and becomes relevant.
