Crawford examined for elbow soreness

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff April 10, 2012 06:56 PM

TORONTO - Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford was examined in Boston on Tuesday.

The outfielder was experiencing some minor elbow soreness according to a team source. He may hold off on throwing for a while.

Crawford was an awesome baseball player for his entire career PRE-Boston. He shows up here has a down season and the Red Sox fans annhiliate him with negativity and anger. Now all that is out there is negativity.

Why does no one have any faith in him returning to his normal baseball self? I don't see why this guy would go from superb to being a mediocre in just one year...

C'MON CC! COME BACK TO US!!

Plus I think how clutch he was should grant him some slack. He came up big in clutch spots and he did sorta kinda come together at points, considering all the pressure and an injury or two. I definately expect him to be what we paid for when he returns.

Crawford looks like a square peg in a round hole in Boston. It's up to the management to define a role for him that fits his talents.

I guess they really can't rush Crawford along as that has seemed to backfire already. However Ells did not look good leaving the field today. Would seem they need Crawford more than ever.

Looks like a spot just opened up at the top of the Sox lineup. Has he been taking live ABs yet?

It looks like Crawford's problems went from his head to his wrist to his elbow.

It's time Carl got back on the field and played a little hurt--the team is running out of outfielders and he is being paid a king's ransom.

No better way to get a productive season from a player than by rushing him back from injury.

That's a level of logical thinking akin to a one-year old.

Maybe that's why he was so bad last year.

I believe I sense sarcasm.;)

Crawford has play his first XSPT game. He was the DH. We're looking at 3-4 weeks before he's ready.

He has actually played 2 games, and has had 7 AB. I would be beyond shocked if Crawford actually has 50 AB before coming up. He's been timing pitches since the beginning of ST. I'd say he's probably going to get anywhere from 30-35 AB and then he's up, especially with Ells out.

He went 1/3 with a HR yesterday.

My guess - He joins the team on 4/30 for the Oakland series. If he plays 2 games every 3 days, and gets 4 AB per game, he'll have 35 PA by the time the Oakland series comes up.

That would give the team a much needed shot in the arm IMO.

I would say that's a good timetable for that to happen especially with a good 35 ab's

in his favor.

It will take more like 50 at bats and he won't play every game. You figure he'll average 4 AB a game, that would be 13 days. I'd expect him back for the Baltimore series in early May.
