Does he need to go?? The fact that he got caught is bigger than the fact that he may have contributed to the demise of the Sox. He never said he was "sorry" so you can't even think he was sorry for that mess....but he sure is angry that news of the bad behavior got out.

Yeah, we should get rid of Beckett. Lester, too. And we should kick out Pedroia, Youkilis, Ellsbury, and Bard, and then celebrate and toast our principles while the Red Sox lose 100 games every year for the next six decades. What do we need Beckett for? He's only good for 16-20 wins a season, anyone can do that.

He should have been traded in the offseason' date=' but you're stuck with him now. Just ride out the contract.[/quote']

Because our rotation would look so much better going Lester - Buchholz - Bard - ???? - ???? than it does right now??

Trading him over the offseason would have been a horrible move.

Could not trade him but I do think V will end up having to do something to try to "manage" how the Sox players deal with this lingering situation that Beckett seems to actually be fueling.

The thing is, I agree with Pedey. I can't imagine the "leak" coming from a player either, any player. So that means a coach or front office guy or a clubby.....somebody other than a player. So, where does Josh think he is going with this?

Beckett has won 16-20 wins only 3 times in his career.

He was a major reason for the downfall last year and instead of being apologetic for his actions.....hes pointing fingers and blaming people for leaking his actions and calling teammates/staff "rats". Real classy teammate he is huh? Who the f*** wants to be teammates with a guy like that? When he arrived in Boston he had the physique of Justin Verlander, now he closer to a beer league softball player.

Baseball isn't a priority to him neither is success or pride. If they were, that s*** last year wouldn't have happened....if those things meant something to him he wouldn't have shown up to spring training this year looking like a fatass again. The ONLY person who was not apologetic was Beckett, because he is not sorry for what happened, actually....he was the ringleader and is upset his little party is over and now he is kicking his feet throwing a temper tantrum like a 5 year old child.

You kill the monster by cutting the head off it. Beckett should have been traded.

Wow, talk about overkill. Nobody mentioned getting rid of B or L because they seemed contrite about the issue....they aren't blaming the clubhouse rats for getting the story out.....you do recall that, right?

Now why would you want P, Y, E and B out??? What have they done....did we miss something?

And most ridiculous, you think you are going to get much more than 13:lol: wins out of Beckett this year???

What do they say "a cancer in the clubhouse".....yea.

It most likely would have been very difficult to trade Beckett this past winter since his contract was a blocking point. Besides, if he can take that competitive spirit out to the mound with him he will do just fine. I think that one good year, one bad year show will come to an inglorious end this season. I look for Josh to have a solid season as our No. 1 or 2 pitcher. Besides, none of us know if the team did try to trade the guy this off season. Whether some want to like it or not, Beckett is a big piece to the Red Sox puzzle this season, and personally he has given me some big thrills the way he seems to always beat the Yankees when I see him pitch in person. I think he is going to do just fine.

I just read the excerpts from the interview with Beckett on the WEEI website. Beckett seemed most upset about the snitching that related to Francona. Most of the stuff he said seemed positive to me.

I don't know players by letter. But it was sarcasm.

Good to hear, and why you always ought to check your facts/wait til more come out.

As for the 13 wins last year, it should have been 18 easily. He got lousy run support, it was just bad luck. When you throw 193 innings with a 2.89 ERA for the best-hitting team in baseball, it's bad luck to only win 13 games.

I have never heard Josh blaming the snitch for the poor play. He has said he did not pitch well at the end of the year. Why would I care if he apologized? I can honestly say I never watched Josh Becket pitch and felt like he did not give 100% He seems consistently aggressive and competitive on the mound. He is hard on himself when he looses.

Off the field I could care less. Can he be an a hole? Probably. But a competitive starting pitcher with an attitude is as rare as a race car driver that likes adrenaline or a painter that is artsy. Josh is not the best pitcher out there today but he is better then most.

Josh said this, josh said that OMG! Josh wore a red shirt! Feels like the E network covering the team.

Honestly, I feel like Beckett hasn't said anything wrong. The fans and media want to crucify him. I personally am excited to see him pitch this season. Why can't we just f***ing move on already, it's over. Period. I hate Boston sports writers and the fans that eat up that garbage.

You do realize that he was the best pitcher in the American league until he hurt his ankle on September 7th. Seriously. This is so off base. I feel like everyone forgets about that. Sure maybe if his conditioning was better he may not have hurt his ankle, but I am not willing to go that far. Let's also be fair, the second to last start against the O's at Fenway he pitched a wail of a game until Francona let him go to far in the 8th when he got hit around. He also won his previous start before that against the Ray's. BECKETT SAID HE MADE MISTAKES... He is trying to move on, but shmuks like Dan Shaunesey keeping harping on it. What else do you want him to say? What is this kindergarten?

It would have been dumb to not replace him. I'm not advocating Bard as #3.

I agree, it would be so much better to have a guy like Silva, Cook, or Padilla as our #3 starter. It WOULD be extremely stupid to trade Beckett. He is the way he is. We don't have him as part of this team for his personality, we have him as part of this team because he is a good pitcher and one of the two best starting pitchers that we have. We can't trade away one of our best pitchers when one of our biggest weaknesses is SP.

Becks is a competitive SOB and my read is that he's not happy about the "snitching" mostly as it related to Tito; my speculation is specifically as it related to Tito's home situation.

Otherwise, I read it as he's not going to apologize for anything on the field nor should he with respect to 2011. He has already said he made some poor decisions off the field; what more do people want?

Modified: Just to put it in perspective, we had at least 2 DUIs last year (Cabrera and Choo) in MLB. That we know about. If it gets to that level then we can go scalp hunting for apologies.

I think he's not happy about whoever told the Globe about the clubhouse--which is off limits to the media during the game. And he has a right to be. I got that impression listening to him on Millar's show. Millar was sympathetic, as you might expect. I'm not sure how that relates to Francona? Maybe I missed something.

I do think things are getting out of hand at the Globe. Now they're pitting Tito vs Bobby.

And Tito is making money at ESPN criticizing the Red Sox. ESPN is a NY--oriented network.

Tito should shut up about the Red Sox. He clearly didn't do a good job running the ship the last couple years.

Beckett had a good year in '11, and was in better shape than most at the start of the season.

I hope he does as well this year--and pitches more innings. Lester and Buchholz, too. These guys will have to work harder if the Red Sox are going anywhere.

Cant move on, Beckett wont shut his mouth. He keeps saying the s***, what is Shaugnessey supposed to do? Ignore it? Thats he f***ing job to report it. Beckett is apparently too stupid to figure that out so he keeps talking.

Hes been here 6 years. He wants to be treated like an ace, people around here call him an ace yet hes lived up to that in 2, maybe 3 years since hes been here.

You know what pitching like a #1 50% of the time (3 years) and pitching like a #5 is 50% of the time (3 years)is???? Its called a #3 starter.

I want him to 1. keep his mouth shut, 2. show up in shape and 3. pitch well.

Hes already failed #1 since he wants to point fingers at everyone. Hes already failed #2 when he showed up to camp looking like Brad Penny. Apparently making 18Milllion dollars, along with last years failure and bad publicity wasn't enough to get his fat ass in shape.

#3, well....thats wait and see. He pitched well for most of last season like you already mentioned, but then his fat ass broke down.....and he looks fatter this year than last.

I don't give a crap what Beckett says. Snitches do suck.

All I ask is that he pitch well!

In my line of work, the saying goes..."snitches get stitches", but if your always doing the right thing, you never have to worry about a snitch/rat.

Once the games start, nobody will be talking about snitches....I think Beckett is gonna have a monster season, actually. 20-4. You read it here....
