He hasn't performed yet, but he has continued to flap his mouth....that is where he is being judged right now.

How can you not noticed that is what is happening?.....he is being talked about because of what he is saying. Pretty clear cut and obvious

His performance last year has more to do with baseball than his talking.

I'm not going to debate this any longer, because it's silly, I've made my point, and you're wrong and noticeably ignoring logic. Its not me saying "lets agree to disgaree" its my way of saying "yeah, you're wrong, but I don't feel like spending a weeksworth of typing and research to attempt to convince someone they're wrong, only to listen to different variations of "but he talks, thats going on now, stats are nothing".

Have it your way folks. Remember you heard it here first. Beckett is a relative bargain for what he represents as a pitcher and I want him here. But if he keeps this up the Red Sox of JH will off him between this year and next. Unless he has a totally crummy year, teams will look at him as a relative bargain as it relates to pitching generally and may consider him a bargain even if he does have a crummy year.

If he stops now I think the Sox will keep him. But I literally mean one more expletive laced interview of the type he just had were he is lashing out at phantoms and I think he will be gone before the beginning of 2013.

As I said earlier, I agree with Pedroia. I don't think it possible that a player was actually the leak anyway so I have no idea where Josh thinks he is going with this stuff.

While I think just Josh's tone and his unbridled anger as he punching away at phantoms is going to get him booted outta' here lets just suppose for a second that some clubby or whomever discussed the clubhouse stuff with somebody in upper management and it was somebody in upper management that was actually the leak. Right or wrong if that is the case, Josh isn't doing his chances for sticking around Boston much good by bounding around like a bull in a China shop. This is JH's china we are talking about. Frankly I would way more believe that the source was actually out of management than a player. I think the chance it was a player is so low that it just about does not even register on the scale of probability.

People need to read the other stuff that's in the interview too. He talks about how happy he is, how he loves the city of Boston and the fans etc. If you try to take in the big picture, Beckett comes across to me as a very honest guy. He gives a lot of detail about his conditioning and why he gained weight and stuff like that. He's not nearly as sour as people are trying to make him out to be.

i didnt see this interview, but it looks like this is taken out of context to some degree to make it appear as if he's a villain.

I agree Beckett should just shut up and pitch. Everybody should just shut up and play.

Valentine should just comment about the lineup and his field plans. Stick to baseball, Bobby.

The clubhouse crap is just being used by the media against the Red Sox, and a good PR spokesperson should be dealing with it. It is a distraction to the players and the management.

I both read and saw the interview. He comes across better on the video than in print.

Look I don't care for Beckett. I find it hard to root for him. I wish he were playing elsewhere. I think he is a baleful influence. That being said I actually think he came out more positive than negative in the interview.

Whether he stays or goes is really more of a question of what he does rather than what he says. If he becomes a problem in the clubhouse that adversely affects the team the way Manny did then they will move him. I hoestly don't think he'll get that bad. He is far more responsibile than Manny was or is.

But I think there will be issues if he and the rest of the team feel they can't trust one another. That's where the manager comes in. I think BV by his statements yesterday is aware of it and will deal with it. Everyone on this team has a lot to prove. This will all go away if they are winning. If not then it will be an issue all year. Even if they are winning it will arise again in September if and when they hit a bad patch. That's just the way it goes.

Face it Boston and New York are the hottest baseball town around. One of the things you need to be successful in Boston is handling the press. But the Red Sox and the press actually feed off on another. These guys wouldn't be getting the big dollars they do without the media coverage of the team. Everyone knows it. That's why JH et al feed the beast.

For me I'd rather read this stuff than the regular news. It is far less depressing.

Right now, Beckett is feeding the monster. We'll see if he can take a different approach and just leave 2011 in the past.

Also, I hope his distractions this year are few and that he pitches like 2007 or 2011 (April - August).

But when he wasn't talking about what happened last year he was getting reamed for that. Now he sits down and gives his view of what happened and he gets reamed for being outspoken.

The fly in that ointment is that the people that employ him aren't asking him to say or do a damn thing. This is all media BS and he is doing it in a way that is what they would consider PR poison. At least when LL lies through his teeth he does it elegantly.

Josh crying foul about the media making it an issue of his family vs baseball is just such an obvious red herring and is a clumsy effort on Josh's part attacking a none issue. Nobody knows where he is going with that either.

I think the Sox would let that slide but the constance of his threatening demeanor with regard to the "leak" when in fact the only people he can really confront are his fellow teammates can't be going over well in the offices of upper management. I suspect they believe or maybe even know better, even better than Pedey, that the leak is not a fellow player so Josh.....where the hell are you going with this?

The point being that I don't think Josh is going to get the satisfaction he seeks bulling around JH's player china and once Josh has expended that effort, what other of JH's possessions does he start to bull around in and to what extent can V rein him in and effectively make the same point I am making here....Josh.....where the hell are you going with this?

This is actually a perfect way to close this one out. You being irrational, and taking snippets of what you want to seen/hear. You couldn't have slapped the old ignoramus label on yourself any better dude.

My guess is he's probably done talking to the media about this stuff now. We'll see.

Is that you, Reck? You both have a comedic resemblence to a 10 year old who feels like he's just been disrespected, and comes up with the most random "insult" you've ever witnessed. I said this to him, and I'll say it to you: children are meant to be seen, not heard. :>

Cant move on, Beckett wont shut his mouth. He keeps saying the s***, what is Shaugnessey supposed to do? Ignore it? Thats he f***ing job to report it. Beckett is apparently too stupid to figure that out so he keeps talking.

Hes been here 6 years. He wants to be treated like an ace, people around here call him an ace yet hes lived up to that in 2, maybe 3 years since hes been here.

You know what pitching like a #1 50% of the time (3 years) and pitching like a #5 is 50% of the time (3 years)is???? Its called a #3 starter.

I want him to 1. keep his mouth shut, 2. show up in shape and 3. pitch well.

Hes already failed #1 since he wants to point fingers at everyone. Hes already failed #2 when he showed up to camp looking like Brad Penny. Apparently making 18Milllion dollars, along with last years failure and bad publicity wasn't enough to get his fat ass in shape.

#3, well....thats wait and see. He pitched well for most of last season like you already mentioned, but then his fat ass broke down.....and he looks fatter this year than last.

Well you entitled to your opinion. From everything I've read they say Beckett is actually in pretty good shape.

Posted
As long as he's pitching well, none of this even matters, on top of what sounds like this is way out of context, it may not even be an issue regardless.

I agree with you. Why is he continuing to flap? Get on the field, do the job you are being paid to do and 2011 will disappear. Trying to justify...and blame...and excuse is not helping the RS and it is not helping Beckett.

Nope, I never said he blamed others for the on the field stuff. I said that instead of blaming himself he calls his teammates "snitches/rats" for allowing his off field stuff leak to the media.

Josh Beckett will be pitching for the Red Sox until his contract expires in 2014. Period. 110% chance. it would take a radically unprecedented change in the CBA to alter that. He might even be re-signed at some point.

You heard it here first.

People paid Roger Clemens. People paid David Wells. People paid Pedro. People paid Schill. Loud mouthed idiots who happen to be effective starting pitchers don't get moved for being loud mouthed idiots.
