Bailey makes what, a tenth of what Papelbon will be making next year?

Not bad.

They are estimating that he will make $3.5 million after arbitration in 2012, which is almost a one third of Papelbon's 2012 salary. Taking into account that Bailey throws about 3/4's of the innings that Papelbon throws, it is still a good deal.

Not that it makes a diference but the big loser on this may be Scott Boras. One more dip pocket team out of the market for Madson

This is a great deal for the Red Sox.

Cherrington must be upset he had to give Beane Head to get it done though........... Bazinga

Not a bad deal. I think it ultimately helps the Red Sox, with minimal traded away, (Although I don't know much about the other 2 minor leaguers were that we traded...third-base prospect Miles Head and pitching prospect Raul Alcantera.)

I'm holding out to see if Lavs went the other way.

If he did, we didn't come out ahead.

Olney says 3 for 2. No Lavs. Head/Reddick/Alcantara for Bailey/Sweeney.

Good trade. We had a surplus of LHH OF anyway. Kalish is probably ready to take over in RF if we cannot find a RHH OF to do it. The A's think that Alcantara has a big upside, so it could also work out well for them. They have a history of developing good pitching in their minor league system.

Bailey is not FA eligible until 2015 according to what I read.

Watch the Angels on this Elk. Moreno has been throwing around money like candy this off season and they really need a kick-ass closer. The question is whether Moreno's deep and intense dislike for Boras will let that opportunity go by him. I would like nothing better than for Boras to take one on the cheek this time around. I've never gotten over how he played the Red Sox like a fiddle in the fall of 2008 with Mark Teixeira, then went to the Yankees one time and asked them to better it.

Hey Arte, as a fellow Southern Californian, tell Boras to shove it up his ass.

Psyched to see most folks so far are as excited as I am.

Some others....figures....always the same old same OLD.

Patience people....patience. With our new GM, you can be patient.....there is no other choice.

Well, the cherry (SP and RH OF) on the top of the cake is the only thing that misses this offseason.

I'm confident that we will get those guys. If true, Boston be prepared, because I'm on my way!

With the Red Sox out of it he'll be bidding against himself. I think Madson's price just came down from what the Phillies were willing to pay.
