I don't think the issue of pitching depth is that hard to understand. What is likely a little difficult to swallow is how early on the Sox will be relying on their pitching "depth".

I think many are hoping that either Bard or Aceves remain in the pen but in reality I think we are likely going to be disappointed if one of the guys that have been brought in during the past few months ends up in the rotation someplace. As it stands now unless both Bard and Aceves go to the rotation then one of the "depth" guys has to go to the rotation. The Sox will likely not start the season with a real deal #4 or a real deal #5. Hard to call either Bard or Aceves solid starters when neither has done it before. However that is likely the best option because if one of them ends up in the pen the Sox start the season with one of the depth guys in the 5 hole, before anybody spends a day on the DL.

Frankly while we are on that topic I think it would be more of a stretch to suggest that all of the opening day rotation guys will make it through the season. It does not take a crystal ball to believe the odds are better that one or more of them will end up on the DL than not. The alternative to all of these other options (hoping Fred has his oxygen mask handy) is that they bring back Wakefield into that 5 spot. If that is the case, Fred will not be the only guy that should be kept away from any sharp implements. In fact if that happens both Fred and I may be on the same bus on the way to some clinic for a good long rest and break from severe emotional and phycological trauma.

A "real deal #4" is a guy who can provide innings, so i agree.

Did you see however the posts about #5 starters' production? To think that either Bard or Aceves could provide above league average #5 production is unreasonable.

I am absolutely OK with what the expectations should be for a 5 guy. I am a bit more concerned that if the Sox put either of Bard or Aceves in the pen we start the year with what I guess you could call a 6 in our 5 spot and a 4 that has never started at this level before or really any professional baseball level successfully.

Probably if I had my way and that is how we started the year I would prefer to see some young guy that we have been developing end up in that spot than seeing one of the retreads end up there. At least if a young development guy gets the spot I can consider it progress on the pitching development front.

Don't let that bus leave without me.

Well Jung we can save our bus fare for another day since Tim did retire and made my prediction that he would show up to play so much garbage, or as my pal Pumpsie would say, more dung for the heap. Word is out that if we get into real pitching problems this coming summer they could call on him again, but we have so many of the slag heapers in camp that you would think one or two of them might just catch lightning in a bottle.

Don't throw that bus ticket away just yet, though. Varitek is still out there mulling it over whether he wants to tempt fate or not.

Pumps, Fred and Muggah.. how the hell have you all been? Oh and with keeping with the topic, haven't heard anything about the players being unhappy with Valentine but I think they need to re prove themselves as baseball players before I give their opinions on a manager any weight.

My God Brennan, where the hell have you been hiding? In Argentina????? 'Bout time you came out of your cave. Good to hear from you again. We have all types on this board so you will feel right at home. I happen to believe that Valentine will do just fine, though I wish Cherington could have gotten more money from Henry to sign a quality pitcher this winter instead of what Pumpsie refers to as "more dung for the heap".

Good to have you back.

Brennan, my gosh glad you found your way here.

He's found his way here before. Has been a member since 2009.

He seems young and nice. Will he bring some more negatvity/realism as others from that board have?

For an old bag, you are partial to the young members.

But I've never argued with one of the young members to the point where I was banned.

So, I've got that going for me. How about you? Ever been banned for arguing with some one approximately 30 years younger than you?

Once again. You are at leas 6-8 years older than me. Mid life crisis Ted?

If I was as sensitive as you, I would be offended and put you on ignore AND claim to be a victim as you have so many times with so many posters.

Get off my back.

What took you so long?

If I had a nickel for every time that I was called old fart, etc here, I'd be able to buy a few extra tickets to Fenway. You're a little sensitive about the age thing. What's with bringing up the ban constantly. I was not perma-banned like a few of our members in good standing. BTW, People 30 years younger than me are full fledged adults. At 23 I was married and in Law School, fully capable of taking on old men in arguments. Ital and I got off on the wrong foot, and Yeszir, wisely gave us a cooling off period. Ital and I moved passed it, but apparently you haven't, because you keep bringing it up. Repeating oneself is a warning sign of senility. ;) You should be aware of that. Don't be so sensitive about being and old hag. That's coming from an old fart.

I gotta say, 700, that there are young folks everywhere who are mature and young folks who have yet to mature. With the former group you can treat them as adults and discuss issues logically. With the other group you might as well be talking to the wall-they don't hear you. All they care about is spouting off in a MEFIRST manner. Those folks are best ignored.

And there are also old folks that haven't shown the maturity of an 11 year old.

Not pointing fingers, just saying...

Most people here in general are decent. In fact, without naming names, I can think of only one "Youngblood" that still needs to grow up.

I have NEVER called you an old fart or referred to your age.

You have called me, among other things, menapausal and now an old bag.

You were wrong in both instances.

You got personal Teddy. You constantly call out others when they get personal.

I've been attempting to "play nice" lately.

You were wrong when arguing with ital. Keep reasoning and rationalizing that time out here. Just want to make sure your new buddies out here know about the ban. I've never been banned.

Make all of the excuses you want.

You are wrong when it comes to me.

So STFU "King".

Yeah, you have. I guess you can dish it ...

As for the rationalizing the thing with Ital, I don't rationalize it at all. We went at each other and worked each other up into some nastiness. The whole thing passed in one night. I can't imagine why you need to relive that argument. My disagreements with Ital were mild compared to other disagreements I and others here have had.

I believe you have me mistaken with someone else when it comes to referring to your age. I may have mentioned Viagra.

Your disagreements with ital were SO mild that you both got banned and he broke his hand punching a wall. Pretty f***ing mild there Ted.

You bring out the worst in people, hence people troll you. You are annoying.

Don't "attack" me out of the blue. Especially when I wasn't addressing you in the first place.

I know you are incapable, but try really hard to let it go. And shut up and leave me be.
