This is why a steady closer is so important. Every Feliz save is like playing hot potato with a ticking time bomb, and he finally screwed up, and at what time!

I love this kind of stuff, especially when I'm non-partisan and can appreciate it regardless of the outcome. Sort of want Texas to get their title though.

I have noticed lately that this seems to be a new plague with the modern ball player. Happens on foul balls, long balls....all over the place. Find the warning path....find the wall....find the ball. More and more these guys seem to be putting themselves in positions where they find everything all at the same time.

Cruz did play that like a hand grenade but he had time to play it. Imagine how unexciting that would have been with Dewey Evans out there?

I don't understand this argument. Papelbon blew a season-ending save in 2011 and in 2009. He's not clutch anymore.

+1

I'd like to watch RS games with this calm but it is just impossible.

BTW... Hamilton!

Not "clutch". Whatever.

Ask Carl Crawford why he didn't come up with that ball. Papelbon was one of the best closers in the league last year, no way to argue that.

IMO, I dont see a better closer than him in the 2012 market.

Dewey either would have gotten a good jump on that ball and caught it without running into the wall, or he would have decided to play the carom and the second runner would not have scored. Most likely, he would have caught the ball.

I think Washington is nuts to have gone to Oliver here.

That was the one place where Hamilton could hurt them with that bad groin of his.

I am reminded of the ALCS between Yankees and Mariners where at the end of games 5 and 6 Yanks pitching coach was going to the mound almost every batter to instruct the pitcher telling him exactly what he wanted done with that particular hitter. If Motte had put the ball anywhere else, I don't think Hamilton could have jacked it.

When it mattered most, Papelbon did not record a save. I'd rather sign five guys like Dan Wheeler than get one Papelbon.
