That post has actual research behind it. That means it wasn't from you. Your posts are often right' date=' but you rarely put numbers in your posts. I would have been pretty surprised if that post had turned out to be yours.[/quote']:lol:There wasn't a lot of statistical research in that post. I've included stats from time to time. If I researched every post, I wouldn't get to 30 k posts until 2022. I very often do the research to confirm my opinion, but I don't post the numbers. Columns and tables etc take too much time.

That's exactly the beauty of A700's posts. He doesn't even need to look at stats in order to be right.

I really do look at the stats to confirm my opinion, but i am too lazy to put them in the posts. I spend too much time at this as it is. If I started adding spreadsheets etc. increasing my time here, my wife would divorce me and I'd lose my job, and I'm not sure in what order those things would happen.

The mixed messages coming from the FO seem almost irrational at times. They are certainly not articulating any coherent strategy.

700, I know I won't catch hell from you or my pal iortiz on this but you know what I'm thinking right now? I'm thinking that the front officehass become dysfunctional and don't know the hell they're doing. Nothing coming down from there seems to make much sense. Look, it is possible that Oswalt doesn't want to play in Boston for whatever reason, but if our cream puff GM would raise the ante by about four or five million maybe we would get an answer one way or another. No way Cherington is going to convince me that he is satisfied going into the season with the pitching staff we have now, but then again I might be overestimating Ben's grey matter.

it's getting to the point where someone should make a montage of you two along the lines of the theme from Laverne & Shirley.

The point isn't to get to the most posts, it's to make relevant points with reasoning behind them. 30,000 posts. What percentage of them of you think were actually necessary?

No one's posts are necessary. I like to think that most of my posts have been relevant to the topics being discussed and they are always well reasoned. I almost never post about other poster's agendas or motivations.;). I only do so if those things are questioned about me first. My posts are just a running record of my opinions about the Red Sox and other things. It seems to have generated a lot of discussion throughout the years. That's what a message board is about-- people's opinions.

I don't post a lot just to accumulate numbers. The numbers scare me a little, because they indicate that I spend too much time doing it. If I were to start including spreadsheets of stats in my posts, I'd spend even more time here.

Slow news day, so let's mock the other posters. And people say that my posts are negative. Shouldn't this line of discussion not be in the Red Sox -- Off Season thread?:dunno:

@VA and Emmz.

@E1, would you consider the posts to which I am responding "necessary" or "well-reasoned"?

I dunno, I thought it was kind of funny. Sorry you took it personally.

Fred, its possible that they have some sort of plan, but when it comes to presenting this team as a team able to contend for a ring, they find that they have to lie about it. They cannot be too happy about the quality of our pitching or our SS situation. Presumably they are not morons and understand where the team stands. But they cannot just go to the press and tell the truth: that we are a good SP short of a contender (even though the truth would be refreshing), so they lie.

Maybe we should have a separate thread where posters who would like to attack or otherwise complain about other posters can go to express their concerns free of criticism about the personal nature of their missives. Those of us who would like to just discuss the issues, either positively or negatively, can stay on other threads if we choose to do so and avoid those attacks. What do you think?

Team ownership always spins the story to the fans. What is bothersome, is that they can't seem to come up with a coordinated consistent story/narrative to push in the press.

If you actually consider that attacking or criticizing, you really do have thin skin. It was a harmless joke.

How do you make up a believable story that the team is just fine as it now stands when everyone knows that we still need at least a viable SP and probably a SS too? Thats hard to do. I sympathize with them. Its a real skill to be able to lie believably.

None of that bothers me at all. All I care about is the team they put on the field.

I was not referring specifically to that post. There are plenty of posts on this thread to chose from that qualify as bashing other posters.

Wow what a GREAT idea. Not really.

We did have any Anything Goes section for a while. It had to be closed down.

I would appreciate the truth more than a stream of nonbelievable lies. How about this:

"While we think we have a reasonably good team without additional players being added, we are always in the market for a good starting pitcher to bolster our rotation if one can be obtained at the right price"

That way they are admitting, sort of, that there is still a weakness on the team without truly lying to the fans.

Muggah, man, you are in a certain category of fan that probably shouldn't even be described as a fan. I mean, you loathe and detest just about every single player and every member of management-as well as any other fan who supports the team verbally.

To use an analogy, you're kind of like the guy who goes to see someone perform but instead of cheering, heckles the guy mercilessly and pokes fun at the people around him who are cheering. You paid your admission and you're there to see the show, but are you really a fan? I'm not convinced that you are.

Outstanding post.

Well, if it had to be closed down, what do you think were the reasons it had to be terminated?

You would have to ask the Mods about that one.

Umm...have you or Bellhorn actually MET Muggah?

I have.

He has quite a life story to tell. And he is as fervent a fan as there is on this board. He wants wins as much as anyone here. Like everyone else, he has a particular way that he posts-and he is free to continue doing that. Isn't he?

Me either. It's what they've always done. I agree with you, let's see what team is put on the field.

I would say that they have clearly acknowledged that they have been looking to get another starting pitcher-at the right price. I see no misleading or confusion on that point.

It's real nice that you and Fred and Muggah all know each other outside of the message boards, it doesn't matter to the rest of us.

All we know is what we read out here. Bellhorn was spot on about Muggah after that post.
