Last year I came up with a term for every blown save that Papelbon has. They are called "Pap Smears" and last year I was able to use the term much more often than I wanted to.

I like the creativity, but I still like Papelblown better.

I never understood Papelbon getting s*** for saying he would want the ball, as all closers would, in the all star game in New York. He never said he should close it or that the he is better than Mariano. The one thing he did that pissed me off though was him saying he's looking forward to setting the bar for closer contracts when he hits the market. The greedyness on his end there really rubbed me the wrong way.

Solid behind the scenes story of what happened with the whole Adrian Gonzalez deal. Stuff most people probably didn't know about.

Thats a really great story only makes me like adrian mroe then i already did. And as the article said he put up 30 homers with a busted shoulder last year. if the thing is fully healed then we got to really watch out

I wonder if Beltre is worried yet' date=' i haven't heard of anything about him in a while[/quote']

All of his offers keep getting pulled off the table. Angels pulled their 5 yr/70mm offer off the table, A's did the same thing.

GM's that don't have time/money to negotiate (i.e. teams not named the Sox, Phils, or Yanks) are getting tired of Boras and his antics.

Too bad he can't play SS or catcher, because he will probably go for a bargain price.

It's too bad that they already signed Ortiz. Beltre would have provided more righty/lefty balance, but signing him and AGon would have created another logjam problem for the lineup with three guys wanting to play the same two positions.

Yeah i understand that just messing around like you were, but he does have the frame to be a catcher in all seriousness i mean hell he truck sticked the f*** out of ellsbury and cameron i dont see him giving up any bit of the plate

Its pretty clear to me that Beltre isn't going to perform like he did in 2010 ever again. He'll play superb defense, and hit 20-25 home runs, but a six year deal for a guy who did what he did to Seattle really makes no sense for most GMs.

What did he do to Seattle? He played superb defense and hit 20-25 Homers per year with the exception of the year he was injured, and of course, there was the problem of that stadium cutting into his overall production. If he were to go to say, Texas, he could definitely come reasonably close to his production in Boston.

The real problem isn't that sixth year, since given his body type and glove he's probably going to age well (but his OBP will decline fast) but rather the combination of the AAV plus the sixth year. 6-years at 18 mill is unrealistic even for Boras. Then again, the Nationals signed Werth for 7/126 so that may have emboldened Beltre to think he deserves something close to that.

He hit 1.014 with 48 home runs before his big contract, then averaged .758 and 20.8 home runs per year in Seattle. That's a massive drop, affected by a lot more than park factors.

GM's aren't measuring him by what he did in Seattle or what he did in the Dodgers or what he did in Fenway, but somewhere in between. He's not a 1.000 OPS guy, and that's not even worth mentioning, since it's obviously an outlier. He is, however, capable of much more than what he showed in Seattle but less than what he showed in Boston.

The fact that teams are offering him five-year contracts in the 64-70 million dollar range would support this theory, since with an OPS in the low .800's Beltre is a 4.0 WAR guy with his defensive abilities.

He'll get five years at around 15 million AAV, and health permitting, the team that signs him will get what they're paying for during a significant duration of the contract.

Not really sure where to post this, but Oney Guillen is such a punk. He's created another Twitter shitstorm. Last summer, he slammed Kenny Williams while he was an employee for the White Sox.

Now, after Bobby Jenks gave Ozzie a harsh parting shot, Oney goes off and makes a ton of personal attacks on Jenks. Ozzie looks real bad for letting his son run his mouth off and not having a handle on locker room sanctity. Oney had no business knowing about or talking about Jenks' personal problems. This is a mess.

Adrian Beltre and the Rangers finalized a six-year contract Wednesday, with the third baseman joining the defending American League champions on a deal that could be worth nearly $100 million

One scary thing to think about, is that if Qualls, Balfour, and Soriano sign with other teams (which should likely be the case) the Rays would have picks 24, 32, 39, 42, 43, 55, 60, 63, and 64. Damn.

TB and Boston own the compensation draft pick process lol

And that's not even factoring in the fact that if some of the other Type A or Type B FA's sign with their own team instead of another team, then those picks get better.

TB doesn't really own it, they just lost basically their entire dominant bullpen and superstar LF to the free agent market.

BOS on the other hand owns it, they were able to sign Crawford, Jenks, and Wheeler while losing Beltre/Martinez and gained multiple 1st rounders/1st supp/and 2nd round picks from it.
